101 | Freem will, why? | Deut 29:29 | New Creature | 171886
One possible reason, is because if God merely created beings that had no freedom of choice, then what He would have created would be robots, and I don't think robots can willingly love God in return. God wanted to create beings that would willingly love and obey Him in return.
102 | evolution and the bible | Gen 1:21 | New Creature | 167989
We have to define what you mean by evolution. If by evolution you mean macro-evolution, (the change of one species into a different species, then no. A horse cannot become a sheep etc. that would be macro-evolution which doesn't happen However, if you are thinking of micro-evolution, (variations among species) such as the many varieties of dogs, then yes. While there are many varieties of dogs, they are still dogs. Dogs never cross the species barrier. A dog cannot become a horse or anything but a dog. As a side-note, and in a humorous way you may want to go to the following link and see what comes up. http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/images/blclintonevolution.htm Go ahead, you'll like what you find. |

109 | What is an apostate? | 2 Thess 2:3 | New Creature | 167035
In a Christian sense, and apostate One who has abandoned one's religious faith Apostasy; Apostate apostasiìa, “a standing away from”): I.e. a falling away, a withdrawal, a defection. Not found in the English Versions of the Bible, but used twice in the New Testament, in the Greek original, to express abandonment of the faith. Paul was falsely accused of teaching the Jews apostasy from Moses (Acts 21:21); he predicted the great apostasy from Christianity, foretold by Jesus (Mat 24:10-12) which would precede “the day of the Lord” (2Th 2:2). Apostasy, not in name but in fact, meets scathing rebuke in the Epistle of Jude, e.g. the apostasy of angels (Jude 1:6). Foretold, with warnings, as sure to abound in the latter days (1Ti 4:1-3; 2Th 2:3; 2Pe 3:17). Causes of: persecution (Mat 24:9, Mat 24:10); false teachers (Mat 24:11); temptation (Luk 8:13); worldliness (2Ti 4:4); defective knowledge of Christ (1Jo 2:19); moral lapse (Heb 6:4-6); forsaking worship and spiritual living (Heb_10:25-31); unbelief (Heb 3:12). Biblical examples: Saul (1Sa 15:11); Amaziah (2Ch 25:14, 2Ch 25:27); many disciples (Joh 6:66); Hymeneus and Alexander (1Ti 1:19, 1Ti 1:20); Demas (2Ti 4:10). For further illustration see Deu 13:13; Zep 1:4-6; Gal 5:4; 2Pe 2:20, 2Pe 2:21. “Forsaking Yahweh” was the characteristic and oft-recurring sin of the chosen people, especially in their contact with idolatrous nations. It constituted their supreme national peril. The tendency appeared in their earliest history, as abundantly seen in the warnings and prohibitions of the laws of Moses (Exo_20:3, Exo_20:4, Exo_20:23; Deu_6:14; Deu_11:16). The fearful consequences of religious and moral apostasy appear in the curses pronounced against this sin, on Mount Ebal, by the representatives of six of the tribes of Israel, elected by Moses (Deu_27:13-26; 28:15-68). So wayward was the heart of Israel, even in the years immediately following the national emancipation, in the wilderness, that Joshua found it necessary to re-pledge the entire nation to a new fidelity to Yahweh and to their original covenant before they were permitted to enter the Promised Land (Josh 24:1-28). Infidelity to this covenant blighted the nation's prospects and growth during the time of the Judges (Jdg_2:11-15; Jdg_10:6, Jdg_10:10, Jdg_10:13; 1Sa_12:10). It was the cause of prolific and ever-increasing evil, civic and moral, from Solomon's day to the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities. Many of the kings of the divided kingdom apostatized, leading the people, as in the case of Rehoboam, into the grossest forms of idolatry and immorality (1Ki_14:22-24; 2Ch_12:1). Conspicuous examples of such royal apostasy are Jeroboam (1Ki_12:28-32); Ahab (1Ki_16:30-33); Ahaziah (1Ki_22:51-53); Jehoram (2Ch_21:6, 2Ch_21:10, 2Ch_21:12-15); Ahaz (2Ch_28:1-4); Manasseh (2Ch_33:1-9); Amen (2Ch_33:22). See IDOLATRY. Prophecy originated as a Divine and imperative protest against this historic tendency to defection from the religion of Yahweh. In classical Greek, apostasy signified revolt from a military commander. In the roman catholic church it denotes abandonment of religious orders; renunciation of ecclesiastical authority; defection from the faith. The persecutions of the early Christian centuries forced many to deny Christian discipleship and to signify their apostasy by offering incense to a heathen deity or blaspheming the name of Christ. The emperor Julian, who probably never vitally embraced the Christian faith, is known in history as “the Apostate,” having renounced Christianity for paganism soon after his accession to the throne. An apostate's defection from the faith may be intellectual, as in the case of Ernst Haeckel, who, because of his materialistic philosophy, publicly and formally renounced Christianity and the church; or it may be moral and spiritual, as with Judas, who for filthy lucre's sake basely betrayed his Lord. See exhaustive articles on “Apostasy” in the Jewish Encyclopedia. (ISBE) |

111 | What were the promies. | 2 Cor 6:16 | New Creature | 166909
I believe the answer to that question can be found in the verses that lead up to 2 Cor. 7:1. 2 Cor. 7:1 begins by saying; "Having therefore these promises" In order to find out what the therefore is therefore, we have to look in 2 Cor. 6 2 Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you, 2 Cor 6:18 And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. The promises from the above verses which Paul alluded to are: 1. That God would reside or indwell believers, who separate themselves from the world. And He would be their God, and they would be His people (verse 16) 2.And He would receive us. (That is, He will receive and recognize you as His friends and adopted children.)(verse 17) 3. He would be a Father to us, and we His spiritual children (verse 18) Hope that helps |

112 | SHOULD YOU TITHE FROM GROSS OR NET PAY? | Mal 3:8 | New Creature | 166885
Personally I tithe from my NET, because I tithe from what I have, not from which the State taketh away. Then when I file my tax return, if I get a sum, back I tithe on that as well. I can't tithe I that which I haven't received. Now thats how I tithe. But we need to make a distinction between tithes and offerings. While I tithe 10 per-cent of my NET, I also give offerings occasionaly which excede what I have already given from my NET. We should not be limited by tithes only. Look in the following verse where tithes are distinguished as being something separate from offerings. Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. |

114 | Monergistic Invitation? | Luke 22:42 | New Creature | 166698
Mark I just wanted to make a brief comment concerning the following statement you made. You said: "Either God would regenerate a person, and they would be reconciled, or God would not regenerate a person, and they would not be reconciled." In my view, regeneration truly is monergistic. Regeneration makes reconciliation possible. In reconciliation there is a command to be reconciled (2 Cor. 5:20). Secondly there is no command to be regenerated. In regeneration man remains passive, in reconciliation we become proactive, by following the command; "be ye reconciled" NC |

119 | "word" or "Word" | Bible general Archive 3 | New Creature | 166080
Mark you said: Mr. Green apparently believes that this reference refers to Christ Yes, thats what I'm getting at. Does word in this verse refer to the written word, or to the person which "Word" would indicate. Obviously their is not full agreement even among translators on this. Marvin Vincent in his word studies makes the following interesting comment on the usage of "Word" in 1 Pet. 1:23 1Pe 1:23 - Being born again Rev., having been begotten again. Compare Jam_1:18. Of seed - by the word Note the difference in the prepositions; the former denoting the origin or source of life, the latter the medium through which it imparts itself to the nature. Word of God The gospel of Christ. Compare 1Pe_1:25, and Peter's words, Act_10:36. Also, Eph_1:13; Col_1:5; Jam_1:18. Not the personal Word, as the term is employed by John. Nevertheless, the connection and relation of the personal with the revealed word is distinctly recognized. “In the New Testament we trace a gradual ascent from (a) the concrete message as conveyed to man by personal agency through (b) the Word, the revelation of God to man which the message embodies, forming, as it were, its life and soul, to (c) The Word, who, being God, not only reveals but imparts himself to us, and is formed in us thereby” (Scott, on Jam_1:18, “Speaker's Commentary”). |

I found this on 1 pet. 1:23 from Marvin Vincent's Word Studies "Word of God The gospel of Christ. Compare 1Pe_1:25, and Peter's words, Act_10:36. Also, Eph_1:13; Col_1:5; Jam_1:18. Not the personal Word, as the term is employed by John.
