182 | What was Noah's wife's name? | Gen 7:7 | New Creature | 140710
The extra-Biblical book of Jasher says this: and Noah went and took a wife, and he chose Naamah the daughter of Enoch, and she was five hundred and eighty years old. And Noah was four hundred and ninety-eight old when he took Naamah for a wife. (Jasher 5:15-16) I advise caution however on accepting anyting from extra-Biblical materials as being absolute truth, even though it may possibly be true. We can't say for sure whether or not this was her name. Blessings New Creature |

183 | Is Gambling Wrong? | Bible general Archive 2 | New Creature | 140707
There is no "Eleventh Commandment" in the Bible saying "Thou shalt not gamble." However, gambling violates at least five doctrines of Scripture: the sovereignty of God, stewardship, covetousness, brotherly love, and God’s instruction not to be brought under the power of anything. Another Commentary on Luke 3:36 this one from John Gill Luke 3:36 Which was the son of Cainan… This Cainan is not mentioned by Moses in (Genesis 11:12) nor has he ever appeared in any Hebrew copy of the Old Testament, nor in the Samaritan version, nor in the Targum; nor is he mentioned by Josephus, nor in (1 Chronicles 1:24) where the genealogy is repeated; nor is it in Beza's most ancient Greek copy of Luke: it indeed stands in the present copies of the Septuagint, but was not originally there; and therefore could not be taken by Luke from thence, but seems to be owing to some early negligent transcriber of Luke's Gospel, and since put into the Septuagint to give it authority: I say "early", because it is in many Greek copies, and in the Vulgate Latin, and all the Oriental versions, even in the Syriac, the oldest of them; but ought not to stand neither in the text, nor in any version: for certain it is, there never was such a Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, for Salah was his son; and with him the next words should be connected, |

Ed Adam Clarke gives this commentary on Luke 3:36 Luke 3:36 - Of Cainan - This Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, and father of Sala, is not found in any other Scripture genealogy. See Gen_10:24; Gen_11:12; 1Ch_1:18, 1Ch_1:24, where Arphaxad is made the father of Sala, and no mention at all made of Cainan. Some suppose that Cainan was a surname of Sala, and that the names should be read together thus, The son of Heber, the son of Salacainan, the son of Arphaxad, etc. If this does not untie the knot, it certainly cuts it; and the reader may pass on without any great scruple or embarrassment. There are many sensible observations on this genealogy in the notes at the end of Bishop Newcome’s Harmony. (Adam Clarke) |

Glenn Interestingly there are over 500 Flood legends worldwide. Ancient civilizations such as (China, Babylonia, Wales, Russia, India, America, Hawaii, Scandinavia, Sumatra, Peru, and Polynesia) all have their own versions of a giant flood. These flood tales are frequently linked by common elements that parallel the Biblical account including the warning of the coming flood, the construction of a boat in advance, the storage of animals, the inclusion of family, and the release of birds to determine if the water level had subsided. Amen Glenn Genesis appears uncomplicated in dating the parentage, and Biblical events. When the Bible says: Gen. 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: we know that Adam must have truly been 130 years old when Seth was born to unto him. Likewise Scripture says: Gen. 5:6 ¶ And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: How much plainer can God possibly make it for us. Seth was obviously 105 years old when Enos was born unto him. etc. etc. etc. All one needs to do is take all the begatting dates to learn the time table of the early patirarchs, and flood time line. Genesis in my opinion is an accurate account of the times deaths and events in the lives of the people of God. Why people like Reese want to make it more difficult than what is written is beyond my understanding. I don't know where Reese comes up with his dates that would contradict Scripture, and neither have I seen any such proof that Scripture as it is written can not be trusted. There are many liberal theologians in the world who would have us believe that the Bible doesn't really mean what it says. If God didn't mean what He said, then why didn't He say what He meant. Some liberal scholars have even attempted to insert a "gap theory" between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Someone once said: "It takes four years of Seminary school to teach an individual that the Bible doesn't really mean what it says. I have as yet to find any valid proof that the Bible can't be trusted as it is written down for us. Until I see valid proof that the Bible cannot be trusted then I will continue to believe what Scripture says. Blessings New Creature |

Glenn It appears that Jacob was 50 years young when Shem died. I also find that Abraham was 58 years young when Noah died One last fact that I find amazing is that Noah's father Lamech must have personally known Adam. Lamech appears to have been 56 years young when Adam died, and 113 when God translated Enoch. Can you imagine how the accounts about the building of the ark, the the wickedness of men and the flood as well as the account of how God took Enoch were being taught to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? I find this very important and much overlooked From what can be learned from Bibical chronology, one can find that Shem, the son of Noah lived 600 years. The first 100 years of his life were spent before the flood, and then Shem continued living 500 years after the flood had passed. Also by following Bibical years, I find that Shem outlived Abraham, and Shem was alive even in Isaac and Jacob's days. What makes this so intresting, is the fact that Shem was one of only 8 people that witnessed the ark being built, the ungodliness of the human race before the flood, the taking of all the animals aboard the ark two by two, the rains descending until everyone that was not aboard the ark perished from the face of the earth. It must have been truly amazing to people like Abraham, and others to hear directly from Shem, the account of how the ark was built, about how all those species of animals and their food was taken aboard the ark. And to hear Shem speak about the cries of the ungodly people who drowned in the flood. And then, how after the flood, they began to repopulate the earth. Wouldn't it have been wonderful, if we would be able to read a more detailed account of what happened before, during and after the flood from people like Abraham and others who probably heard about it first hand from Shem himself. Maybe the reason why God had Shem, the Antediluvial patriarch continue to live 500 years even after the flood had passed. was so the post-flood people could learn in detail about the flood directly from only one of 8 survivors of the flood. Rom. 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them That which may be known of God - Dr. Taylor paraphrases this and the following verse thus: “Although the Gentiles had no written revelation, yet what may be known of God is every where manifest among them, God having made a clear discovery of himself to them. For his being and perfections, invisible to our bodily eyes, have been, ever since the creation of the world, evidently to be seen, if attentively considered, in the visible beauty, order, and operations observable in the constitution and parts of the universe; especially his eternal power and universal dominion and providence: so that they cannot plead ignorance in excuse of their idolatry and wickedness.” (Adam Clarke Commentary on Rom. 1:19) Rom. 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: |

191 | What is unpardonable sin? | Mark 3:22 | New Creature | 138590
Below is a portion of an interesting article I came across a while back. I don't remember the source. But read it and and tell me what you think. "Now suppose that I see the light from the lamp of God's Word, but refuse to obey it. Let's say that the Holy Spirit has convicted me, and I understand perfectly what He requires of me, but it is unpopular and inconvenient. What happens if I disregard the light and reject the truth which the Spirit has revealed - for any reason whatsoever? The Spirit continues to speak, of course, and for a time there is a battle in my conscience. I feel miserable and guilty. Days pass by, and even months, while I keep on violating my conviction of what is right. Gradually, the conscience begins to adjust to what is being done in the physical body. Slowly the guilt feelings begin to subside and the acts of disobedience appear less and less objectionable. Finally, the truth which seemed so clear and uncomplicated in the beginning turns into a muddle of uncertainty. Rationalizations spring forth to justify disobedience, and the early convictions of sin fade away. Life is almost as comfortable as it was before the light came. What has happened? We have sinned against the Holy Spirit and are sinking into the state of the unpardonable sin. You see, this deadly sin is not any particular act which can be isolated and labeled. It can be any sin which is cherished in the face of light and knowledge. It actually is a condition of seared sensitivity brought on by persistent disobedience to recognized truth. The reaction is similar to ignoring an alarm clock. The conscience becomes more and more tolerant of the pricking reminder of transgression until, finally, it no longer even recognizes the unwelcome sting of conviction. Like the clock it runs down, too, and just as well, because no one is listening any longer. Continual, willful disobedience disqualifies one to be Spirit-filled. This remarkable representative of God is offended when His primary function is denied. His very nature is to make sin appear exceedingly sinful. Sin cannot comfortably remain where the Holy Spirit abides. Either the sin is renounced or the Spirit finally will be rejected and depart. Refusing to walk in the light does not bring an immediate separation from God, but persistent disobedience continues to harden the conscience to the seriousness of sin. That state of darkness developed by repeated violation of known truth is what we refer to as the unpardonable sin." |

196 | created to worship | NT general Archive 1 | New Creature | 136068
If we were created for God's pleasure, which we were. Rev. 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. And since God is looking for true worshippers who worship Him in spirit and in truth John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Then worship pleases God and since worship is pleasing to God, and since we were created for pleasing Him, what better way of pleasing Him, than by giving Him the worship that is due. He deserves our worship He is worthy of our worship Rev. 22:9 keep the sayings of this book: worship God. New Creature |

197 | Work our your salvation because God.... | Phil 2:12 | New Creature | 136065
I personally see a simple answer to this question. Once we become saved, the Christian walk is our responsibility. 1 Thess. 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more Actually to "walk" is a command, to follow up in obedience to the command is our responsibility. It is even possible for one to refuse to "walk in the light" 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin The above verse has the conditional word "if" which can be either positive if we walk in obedience, or in a negative aspect if we refuse to walk in obedience. To make a long anwer short. We must choose to willingly co-operate with God, God never forces us to obey and walk in the light. Thats a daily choice each of us has to make. Co-operate is the key word. Synergism is another word often used for co-operate Synergism in the sense in which I use the word simply seeks to reconcile two paradoxical truths: the sovereignty of God and man's moral responsibility. 198 | So how do you hear God's voice? | Eccl 7:17 | New Creature | 135949
your welcome joy; One other suggestion on hearing God's voice. Someone has said: "In order to hear God's voice, first turn down the world's volume." We live in such a busy fast paced, noisy world these days. We need to get alone in a quiet place, and spend time alone with God in prayer and in His word. New Creature |

199 | So how do you hear God's voice? | Eccl 7:17 | New Creature | 135860
Let me briefly describe one instance where I knew without a doudt that I heard from God. I had applied for a new high tech job, and prayed that if it is God's will for me, that I would get this job, then I would know God wanted me there. So I told God in prayer, that if I got the job, I then would know it was His will. And if I didn't get the job, I would know that it was not God's will for me to have the job. So I said: God, I am committing this matter into your hands, and am trusting you for what ever the outcome will be. Then I found myself worrying over it, and God with His still small voice spoke to my heart and said; "My child why do I find you worrying over this? Didn't you committ the outcome of it into my keeping?" And then I apologized to God for my worrying, because it demonstrated a lack of trust in God on my part. I then completely left the matter in His hands no longer worrying over it, and I felt totally at peace about it. The final conclusion was. I did get the job. I had heard God's loving and still small voice. And I knew that being on this job was where God wanted me to be. He had given me a new workplace, which I considered a new place of evangelism, to reach out to the lost. New Creature |
