1181 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211045
Shalom John My kind brother, thank you. You said it so much better than I. :o) The Pharisees and the coin weren't even on my mind, completely overlooked that one!! Cheri |

1182 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211055
Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. First off, you missed the qualifying portion - too far. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Seeing as how there is virtually a church most anywhere nowadays, and if you're really in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Sorry, to blow that one down for you. :o) Cheri |

Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. You seem to have missed the qualifying portion of the verse. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Now, it goes without saying that we cannot take our tithes (there at at least 3 of them) or our free-will offerings to the temple, so we'll work with what we do have - virtually a church per every other intersection nowadays (most places, at least 1 within any given mile), but, even if you're really waaaaaay in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call, or a mail courier - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Sorry, to blow that one down for you. :o( Seriously, read the New Testament first. Once you have read the Gospels and letters, you'll be able to read the front portion of the book with much better understanding - your Lord and Savior is all over the Hebrew scriptures. But if you don't know Him, you won't recognize Him any better than did the majority of Israelites of His day. Have fun learning about our King Who is soon coming Cheri |

1184 | Abraham and Abimelech | James 4:2 | skccab | 213116
Shalom y'all, I have a question, it's a "why" that pretty much calls for speculation but I would like to hear other's thoughts. In Gen. 20:7 God is telling Abimelech that Abraham will pray for him and his house to be healed. Why didn't God just go ahead and do this Himself at that time? Was he wanting somehow to exalt Abraham in the eyes of this king? Thanks to all Cheri |

1185 | Abraham and Abimelech | James 4:2 | skccab | 213121
Thanks Val, I've read that story time and again, and always wondered that. I had pretty much agreed with what you wrote but wondered if maybe there was something I was missing... Cheri |

1186 | Abraham and Abimelech | James 4:2 | skccab | 213226
Thank you MJH!! I really liked that!! I asked, realizing, unless I'd missed something, that the answers would be mostly speculation - but you managed to do both. The fact that Abraham was still childless was known, and yet, I managed to not make the connection of praying for another to get what he himself wanted so badly!! So, again, Thank You!! (Isn't it grand, that when we need them, thru SBF we have 2 or more pairs of eyes and 2 or more brains?) Shalom Cheri |

1187 | Angels looking forward to the return ? | 1 Peter | skccab | 194946
Morning Michael, I don't think that it's just the 2nd Advent the angels are interested in. They've been around the whole time watching, trying to figure it out; they have had part in many of the messages from God to man concerning man's redemption, but they apparently knew less than man did about it, for it was man that had the promises. Even today, they are still trying to figure it all out (as are we, we don't understand it - how it works, we simply believe and receive it). Yes, I believe they are probably looking to the 2nd coming as the completion of the promise of redemption. Most of that I summarized (hopefully not too poorly) from Matthew Henry's very loooong commentary on 1 Pet. 1:12 Maybe someone else will have a more concise answer for you Cheri |

1188 | What is the key verse of 1 Peter 1? | 1 Peter | skccab | 195856
Shalom Sandris, 1 Peter 1:1 tells us that Peter wrote this letter to the "pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. Others on the forum, more learned than me, may give you other verses, but for me the key verses would be 6-9 (I can't break it down to just one verse). Peter's letter is one of encouragement to the believers who were experiencing persecutions for the gospel's sake. He told them that the prophets of old inquired of the things they knew and (I'm sure) many had seen!! I hope this helps Cheri |

1189 | "living stone" references count | 1 Peter | skccab | 211458
Shalom St Simon, welcome to the Forum! Under the KJV translation, I found only these 2: 2Co 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 1Pe 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Under other translations, there may be more. Hope this helps Cheri |

1190 | jesus spoke to dead | 1 Pet 1:1 | skccab | 186483
Hi there Luke 23:43 Jesus tells the thief that today he'd be with Jesus in paradise. Don't you think Jesus preached the good news to those there waiting? OR at least said "I am He"? Just a thought. Blessings Cheri |

1191 | jesus spoke to dead | 1 Pet 1:1 | skccab | 186492
I'm not basing my note on 1 Peter, that is definitely about Noah. But Luke 23:43 very clearly shows that Jesus at least went to Paradise. How could the thief be with Him on that day in Paradise if He didn't go there? And again, it indeed does not say (in words) that He preached to the souls there, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Isaiah, Daniel, etc., all those who looked forward to the Cross. But it would not surprise me a bit to learn that He did preach the gospel to them, or at least told them their time of waiting for their Kinsman Redeemer was fulfilled in Him. We will learn about it all in heaven at His blessed feet one day. in love Cheri |

1192 | jesus spoke to dead | 1 Pet 1:1 | skccab | 186493
Guys, The question was did Jesus go to the dead and preach the good news to them during the 3days between crucifixion and resurrection. I say He most likely did. See Luke 23:43. cheri |

1194 | What is wrong with proving it true? | 1 Pet 3:15 | skccab | 192345
Hi Jesusman, I'm with you, I love archeaology. There is nothing wrong with proving the Biblical histories. In fact, I had the Arch. Bible (gave it away, font too small - but kept the CDs that came with it), and it's amazing. |

1197 | Scripture reference to forgive self | 1 Pet 5:6 | skccab | 189431
Hi Pat, InGodITrust said it right. I just wanted to add a scripture or two. Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. and 1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Don't let that old liar the devil convince you that you are not forgiven for the times when you blow it. You are. Stand in His blessings cheri |

1198 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | skccab | 188151
Greetings, CDBJ, I just read your note, it leaves a question or two for me: 1 - Are we talking about the end of the tribulation? 2 - If so, and all who are caught away alive (and who have died in Christ) at this time are changed (glorified 1Cor. 15) - then who is going to be deceived when Satan is loosed for a season at the end of the millenium (certainly not glorified saints)? There is no ordinary human being to have children during this period if all the living and dead in Christ are glorified after the tribulation and before the millenium . I always figured it would be the people born (to those who believed and survived the tribulation) during the millenium that get deceived during that last "season" that the devil is loosed. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but you didn't cover that part, or am I totally off in that area? blessings cheri |

1199 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | skccab | 188153
CDBJ, Thank you for responding. Ok, I had forgotten them, but aren't they sealed for protection because they will preach the gospel? How can they preach that which they don't believe? So they must become believers, if not before the sealing, then afterward. And if they become believers, wouldn't they also be a part of the catching away? So that would still leave no one to procreate a people that could be deceived in the last "season." I'm really trying to figure this one out. cheri |

1200 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | skccab | 188154
CDBJ, Hi again. I know our salvation doesn't hang on whether we get the timeline right or not. But Revelation had to have been included by the Lord for more than just curiosity and entertainment. I just begin to think a particular scenario works, then some other comes along that seems to work a bit too. Or do you think that's as it should be? just this close but no closer? |
