101 | Are Jesus' Two Commandments Easy? | Matt 22:40 | swerv | 147242
Hello: From your note - do you agree we are still rquires by God to keep the "law". Which would include the diet of God. For example: We should not eat pork !! Is. 65:4 I grew up eating everything but now recognize that was contrary to God's law. But I also recognize that God sees a unknown sin different than a known sin. ??? Merv |

102 | What is 'the fruit of the vine'? | Matt 26:29 | swerv | 155088
I believe the use of the word wine can refer to both fermented and unfermented. God approves wine in the cluster which is the unfermented wine. I think the Bible teaches use to not use alcohol unless for health reasons. Swerv |

104 | Why take UNCLEAN animals onto The Ark | Acts 10:11 | swerv | 147776
The unclean animals fed off of the dead animals that died. Look how the oceans are kept clean !!! All things have a purpose just like 1 Tim 4 says. We are still to follow God's diet if we choose to eat meat. Merv |

Hi: See I have a probelm when people are so negative about laws. Of course we can do absolutely nothing to atone for our sins. Only Jesus can take away sin through His shed blood. But Jesus clearly teaches us in the NT that if we love Him we should keep His commandments. If we recognize Jesus and God are ONE then how do you not think we need to keep the law which points out sin. Any law or commandment which was meant to keep us from sin is good in the eyes of God. Please explain why God would set a law in the garden of not eating from the tree when they had not yet sinned ???? They were perfect and sinless up until they broke God's command. If we do not need to keep His laws now are we somehow better than Adam ort Eve. The truth is God expects obedience and uses His law to test our faithfulness to Him. It has nothing to do with saving us from our sins. Those sacrificial laws have been done away at the cross but not His law that points out sin. Diet would be included as a law to follow. It is about either treating our bodies selfishly or treating them like the "temple of God" Read Daniel 1 to see how Daniel looked upon following Gods diet about meat. In love, Merv |

Hank: I am not pushing a denomination. My beliefs reflect a denomination - yes. You must not agree that discussion is debate when there are differing opinions. I look forward to more discussions. Love in Christ, Merv |

110 | Is the dietary law still in effect | Acts 10:13 | swerv | 149399
Hank: Unfortunately - you have been the only one to make issue with my discussions. I have had many great discussions with many others. Is there only ONE doctrine that this forum presents. If so I would like to see where it is stated. I do believe that all denominations which differ in doctrine also agree that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. So we have different views coming fromt he same book. So I take it you say this forum is for only discussing common views but where there is disagreement it should not be discussed. Just because discussions lead to disagreement does not mean that they are not healthy and growing experiences. I will continue to ask questions and answer questions based on my study of the Bible. I do believe everyone else on this forum responds the same way. Fortunately, we do live in a time when we are each freely able to read the Bible and search for the Truth. Jesus taught Truth and was and example of the Truths of the Bible. I do believe we are challenged to do the same. Standing for freedom to learn and express Truth, Merv |

Mark: I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of my intentions. If you disagree you are free not to continue a discussion on a certain topic. I have searched topics of my interest. I think that is why this forum ables people to use the SEARCH FUNCTION. I will not withdraw from this forum. But I will not respond or continue a discussion with someone - if that is the request. I have had many great discussions on this forum and I look forward to many more. If you would like to answer my question as to "where in Acts 10 or 11 does Peter give the interpretation that all animals are now clean to eat ?" - please feel free. Thank you, Merv |

112 | "not under legalism but under grace" | Rom 6:14 | swerv | 147241
Yes, but righteous is given based on forgiveness, repentance, faith in God and finally proof of faith which is obedeience. The Holy Spirit will give us the wisdom and power to overcome temptation and not sin. Obedience proves our love for God and loyalty to God not the devil. God's grace amd mercy have been present from the moment sin entered the world. In love, Merv |

113 | "not under legalism but under grace" | Rom 6:14 | swerv | 147260
Yes: Works and law do not save us or justify us. Only the blood of Jesus did atone for past sins. But we are to live as Christ and Jesus "kept His father's commandments" We are instructed to "if we love Him keep His commandments" We keep the law out of love !! But we still keep them and are required to keep them. It is the evidence of a changed life. God said we will be known by our fruits. These fruits come fromthe basic law of God - to love Him and love our neighbor as we love Him. These laws were written in our heart as part of the new covenant. Justified means to be without blemish or sin. That is true once we repent - the challenge to us then is to "go and sin no more" as Jesus told the adulteress woman. Jesus said "anyone who says they love me (repent and confess) but do not keep my commandments is a liar" Cannot claim love for God and not obey. They go hand in hand. Bible says faith without works is dead. Merv |

114 | Scripture reference? | Rom 6:14 | swerv | 147516
Hey Tim: I appreciate your comments !! Hopefully we are both gaining from these discussions ans even if we do not change our positions on certain doctrines it will challege us to be more equipped to answers these tough questions. Ok Rom. 9. Now clearly the Jews kept the law and even made it more burdensome. But the question is "I think" - which Rom. 9. posses is do we attain righteousness by law or faith. Clearly it is by faith. I do not think I am saying anything opposite to the scripture. Remember Tim that God not only expected them to keep the "law" (10 commandments) but when they did sin they needed to perform the requirement of sacrifices to atone for there sins. This was done daily by individuals and yearly by the priest. So there sins were always present in there mind. The problem that occured is that they kept the "tried" to keep the law (10 comm.) but always failed. They failed in this promise to God because we as man cannot keep the law. Only through God's power (Holy Spirit) can man keep the law just as Christ kept the law for our example and to perfect the sacrifice for sins. They killed a Perfect Man (Jesus) although He did not deserve death but there was no sin in Him to cause a penalty of "death". Death is only required because we "man" is sinful. Almost all Jews rejected Jesus as the promised Saviour (Perfect Lamb Sacrifice for our sins)(which we both agree). This rejection fullfilled the 490 year probationary period for the Jews (Daniel 70 weeks of years prophecy). Thus the gospel went out to the gentiles and Jersalem was destryed in 70 AD. We are now all Spiritual Jews of a circumcised heart. Ok Tim - now the Jews did the sacrificial system to yes atone for their sins but lost faith in understanding that a Savior was coming to save them from there sins and give them the strength to overcome sin. This lost faith in understanding God was sending His son to replace the sacrificial system was evidence in the Jews not recognizing Jesus as the Saviour but instead were looking for a Messiah to save them from perscution. There faith went from doing the law (ceremonial) of sacrifices to reflect a coming Saviour to doing the sacrifices in actually thinking they could be righteous before God for doing them. That is why so many times God says he disliked there sacrifices and feasts - even though He was the one who commanded Moses to put these in place to atone for there sins. There faith had shifted to believing the law could save them instead of believing that those sacrifices was to give them faith (shaddow) that a coming Saviour would take away the sacifices because He was the Perfect Sacrifice. Now if God only required "faith" in this coming Saviour - THEN WHY REQUIRE THEM TO SACRIFICE ?? Just like Rom.16:26 and Rom. 1:5 says that there is obedience of Faith. Heb. 11:7 - by faith Abraham offered up his son. Faith always results in action to reflect our faith. Col. 2:14 and Eph. 2:15 - are speaking of the sacrificial system being abolished by Jesus at the cross. These laws were nailed to the cross. To keep sacrificing made His work on the cross of none effect. But the Jews had lost faith that a "replacement" for there sacrifices was coming so they did believe in Christ because He taught things against the Pharisees burdensome law. They mad it burdemsome because they had to do it to be saved. But scriptures clearly teach that blood of bulls and lambs CANNOT take away sin. But they had "righteousness of law" instead of "righteousness of faith". But the key point is when they did do theses sacrifices - what did it represent in there heart. There heart was with saving them through the law instead of reminding them that they would be saved through Jesus's blood. So just as Paul teaches: We do not destroy the law "GOD FORBID". Math. 5:17-18 -- God's 10 comm. and other statues (like diet and healthy living) are what God expects us to obey out of love - just as Abraham reflected his faith a love for God in obeying God's command to sacrifice his son. 1 John 2:6 clearly tells us what is sin - and Jesus in John 15:10 clearly is our example of a sinless life (keeping His father's comm.) In love and respect, Merv |

115 | Does God love everybody? | Rom 8:39 | swerv | 155055
WOS: Hello - nice to correspond. I did not say we must earn our salvation. I think you read my response incorrectly. The elect are those who are obedient to The WORD of God and obey his laws and commandments. And I did not say man dictates the perfect plan of God. God has His plan and wishes no man perish. Perish means to me that there is no eternal hell ! In Christ, Swerv |

116 | Does God love everybody? | Rom 8:39 | swerv | 155069
Hi WOS: God can choose to use someone, bless someone, make a covenant with someone but that does not mean God controls the hearts and desires of men. Obedience reflects love - just like Gods commandment to honour your father and mother. Now do we do this because we have to or do we do it because we love our parents. In the NT we now have the Holy Spirit to give use the power to overcome temptation to sin. We all we all will be tempted but we are commanded by God - if you love me - keep my commandments. In the OT the laws were not written on their hearts but on stone. It was the people who promised to keep the laws and as a result that is what made the OT covenant faulty because they could not keep the law which was there promise. The sacrificial laws were put in place to atone for sin. Now we do not sacrifice - why - because Jesus has paid the price for our past sins. But now His example and the Holy Spirit enables us to obey His laws. Nothing is earned by us. The free gift of Gods grace and our faith reflected by obedience is all that required to reveal our hearts are changed. All that really needs to be said is this. Prior to Adam and Eve sinning they still were required by God to obey Him. Do not eat fro the tree. They were sinless and yet they still had a law to keep. That should put an end to the discussion as to why we need to be obedient. John 3:16 say God wishes none will perish. If we are chosen and God wishes none to perish - then why does He not save all ! Faith is reflected by obedience. Cannot have one without the other. Abraham had faith but still carried out the killing of his son until he was stopped. If you love me keep my commandments. Math. 7:21 puts it pretty clear what God expects of us. Math. 5:48. Yes we are all sinful but that is not excuse to keep sinning. The OT people could not keep the laws because they tried on there own strength. But we now have the power of the Holy Spirit. Sorry but Gods plan is not to send a flood and probably kill millions. It was because of their wickednes that God got angry and sent a flood. If you go by your thinking then - Gods plan was for wickedness to grow and fill the whole world so he would have to send a flood. You dont really think this is true - right. Yes that was a great quote from MH. I personnly believe that law has existed since creation. Gen. 26:5 is clear that Abraham was following Gods law. The only reason God made the covenant at Sinai was since it was for a whole nation which He saved out of bondage. God remembered the covenant with Abraham. He wrote out the laws because the people needed to be reminded what Gods laws were. That is why God first tested the people about the Sabbath prior to them even getting to Sinai. God said to Moses - I will test the people to see if they will keep My law. That was the Sabbath day test. Did you know that the sacrificial laws were put in the side of the ark but the 10 commandments were put directly inside the ark. I believe the 7th day sabbath still stands today and was not changed to Sunday. Let me know, Swerv |

117 | romans chapter 14 verse 5 | Rom 12:2 | swerv | 148709
Hi Emmaus: How does this answer Rom. 14:5 regarding keeping a day or not. I believe Monica is refering to the discussion of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is clearly Saturday so the point of most discussions is if the NT provides evidence of a change. Certainly there is no evidence of Gof the Father or Jesus making any change. Unless you can provide proof. Rom. 14:5 is discussing the holy days that the Jewish Christians thought the Gentiles should be keeping. These feasts days or "sabbaths" (Lev. 23) are separate from the 7th day Sabbath. The Sabbath was created before sin even entered the world. The Sabbath is apart of the 10 Comm. - the feast days, new moons and "sabbaths" are apart of the Mosaic Law or ceremonial law which pointed to Christ and was done away with at the cross. But since the Jews had a problem with circumcision - they also had a problem giving up these "special days" But God nowhere did away with the 7th day Sabbath. Look forward to discussing !!! Merv PS -- Many people hold that there was no law prior to Sinai !! Do you agree ?? Remember even though Adam and Eve were perfect and sinless they still were asked by God to be obedient by a law "do not eat from the tree" ???? |

118 | Partly under the Law? | Col 2:14 | swerv | 146111
Mark: Jesus death on cross and shedding of blood was the fulfillment of things to come. The sacrificial system was replaced by the Perfect Lamb being sacrificed for our sins. You are right that the moral law still stands and will continue to point our sin in our lives and the world. There was a specific reason why the 10 commandments were put inside the ark while the mosaic law was put on the side of the ark. We are to follow the law of the new covenant which is written on our heart. The penalty for sin is death. The question is will we be apart of the resurection to life or the resurection to death. The second death is final (meaning eternal) God is able to destroy both body and soul. I personally believe that Hell is not a place by a eternal destruction of fire. Thus meaning that the death by fire which will destroy us is eternal meaning we will never life again or be resurected. But we will NOT be in that hell fire forever because it will destroy us. Words like everlasting, eternal and for ever and ever had to be carefully interpreted because many people believe that we have an immortal soul as soo as we die and they believe in an eternal place of torment and fire. Just common sense and knowing God is a just and loving God will make anyone think twice about this incorrect doctrine. Look forward to your comments, Merv |

119 | Partly under the Law? | Col 2:14 | swerv | 146218
Hey Russ: I fully agree - Moral law in effect - which includes the Sabbath. Do you know 7th Day doctine ? Merv |
||||||
120 | Partly under the Law? | Col 2:14 | swerv | 146385
Mark: Only laws that were abolished were the sacrificial laws and surrounding laws which pointed to Christ. Blood of animals cannot take away sin. Ten commandments are universal moral laws which I believe God had in existence from creation. Gen. 26:5 clearly tell us that Abraham was following law. God's law to not eat tree in garden of Eden was not apart of 10 Comm. but also the diet restrictions on meat is not in the 10 comm. This is a tough topic to discuss but I would rather take the approach that we are bound by what God says on any subject unless there is specific statements or instructions be God to challenge His prior instructions. Diet laws have not changed. Sabbath (Saturday) has not changed. To justify a doctine wihtout biblical evidence (properly interpreted) is blatent disobedience. A reflection of out love is to keep His will or commandments. In love, Merv |
