101 | What's the proper response to injustice? | 1 Pet 2:19 | Mommapbs | 153181
Aixen - I am confused about your fear here. Perhaps the problem is that the church is negligent in its appreciation for the gifts that God gives to the body. Not one person alone, but many . . . using their gift as the Holy Spirit has given . . . not for selfish gain or pride, but in humility, esteeming the needs of others and seeing ALL as valuable members. I have been told that this is not a church, yet, if we as believers are gathered about to study God's Word together, is that not an act of worship? It is not being done in isolation, but in view of all. As individuals we might be mindful of James instructions for proper speech (type qualifies here)See James 3 and Psalm 109:17. I read a great "one-liner" on this: whenever we open our mouth, our mind is on parade. (So what we type here is quite revealing too) All too often we do not find a blessing, but rather we find attitudes that are devoid of the mind of Christ, such as condescension, ridicule or even disgust. Titus 3:14 reminds us to use our gifts to meet needs. In this way, BOTH, the needful and the giver are fruitful. How did the meeting go for you? Blessings, mommapbs |

102 | What's the proper response to injustice? | 1 Pet 2:19 | Mommapbs | 153058
"Waiting for an answer, as to what can be done about injustice, and waiting for justice, are alike, both painful processes. One is interested in what the brethren think, and what God feels, and thinks, as he looks on." First of all Aixen, you KNOW what God thinks about sin in the church - 1 Cor 5:11- we are not to even eat with an immoral brother. You KNOW how God feels about sin - He hates it. (see Prov 6:16-19)What should concern us about the way that the brethren think is this: are they be thinking the things that will prompt obedience righteousness and godliness? See, when we don't hate what God hates, when we don't delight ourselves in the LORD, when we don't address sin in the church, we becaome just as guilty of injustice. By not responding to sin, we don't submit ourselves to the Lord and we in essence, practice injustice. We don't apply the justice of God as revealed in Christ's death and we will reap the consequences of unrepentant behavior - the discipline of God. By refusing to address sin in the church we become paticipants in that sin (recall our recent discussion of 1 Tim 5:22; vv19-20 are quite explicit of what response God expects us to take see also Titus 3:10-11; 2 John 10-11; Romans 16:17-18) 1 John 3:22 whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. May these references bless and guide you along the path that God has marked out for you dear brother. mommapbs |

Greetings - I understand your angst here and I appreciate the uniqe position God has called you to, minstering to the body as you do. I can only encourage you with Eph 4:26. I do believe there is a proper place for anger in the church. Just as Christ overturned the money changer's tables, I believe that God has indeed called some to do the same in His body. Indeed it is an arduous task, yet God will equip you, for this we can thank Him; we need folks like you in our midst. We serve an awesome God. Blessings, mommapbs |

104 | Church discipline? | 1 Tim 5:22 | Mommapbs | 152536
Aixen: You cited 2 Tim 2:4 as the directive to evangelists to reprove, rebuke and exhort. Are you limiting these here to just those whose role is evangelism? Interesting, in 1 Cor 12:28, evangelism is not mentioned as a spiritual gift although it is in Eph 4:11.
105 | Church discipline? | 1 Tim 5:22 | Mommapbs | 152535
Thank you. Your questions are thought provoking and have helped me to determine what my role is! I too am thankful that we we have been given the Holy Spirit! For indeed, it is HIS work. I suspect that believers either get in His way or hinder it at times. Blessings, mommapbs |

106 | Church discipline? | 1 Tim 5:22 | Mommapbs | 152430
Terrib - thank you. This is what I was concerned about. In a situation I am aware of, (I seem to be the 'lone voice' crying "foul.") it has continually amazed me that the individual transgressor is not confronted by those in the body for ungodly behavior. Somehow these others are "intimidated" by this person and just plain refuse to confront for fear of offending . . . so I guess they are foul as well as fowl too?!(I don't believe the offender meets any of the "exceptions" noted by Finney here!) Thanks again, perhaps it is my duty to make others aware of theirs! Blessings, mommapbs |

107 | Church discipline? | 1 Tim 5:22 | Mommapbs | 152426
Greetings! As one who has had a ministry that ecounters this, I understand your word of caution here. If the problem is with an "elder" then obviously, the shepherd has this duty. But what of a church where there is no denominational administrative board to "oversee" discipline of the Pastor in the local church - WHO has this responsibility then, the elders? If the issue is with the Pastor, and the elders refuse to address sin in the church, then what? Are you saying that the parishioners are to remain silent, period? Although as you note, there are "specifics" in 1 Tim 5 that are not for all of us, are there general prinicples that can be applied here for all? Do we "wink" at sin by our silence? imo, everyone suffers when one is caught in the trap of unrepentant sin. If one is "allowed" to continue to conduct him/her self in an ungodly manner, meaning they are not confronted by others, do those who refuse to address (confront) the sinful behavior "participate" in it? This is what I am thinking about here. |

108 | Who does the condemning? | 1 Tim 3:6 | Mommapbs | 152168
I'm just wondering if believers participate in this at times? Conceit is a symptom of pride, it is easily recognizable in others . . . but in the recognition, what could we be exercizing?
109 | Did God grant Simon repentance Acts 8:24 | 2 Tim 2:25 | Mommapbs | 152164
Simon's sin was identified and a consequence was pronounced. But, did Simon obey Peter's instruction in v 22? In v 24 it is implied that he feared the consequence of his sin, but where do we see that he repented of it? Can this be implied just because he wasn't struck dead like Ananias and Sapphira? What would this suggest to us as believers? When we are confronted with personal sin by another, can that person pray our repentance for us? Is it possible that when we ask others to pray for us, we neglect to see the necessity of coming in repentance to the Lord personally? So, for Simon, I still wonder if by his request for others to pray for him that we can indeed conclude that personal repentance had ocurred. |

110 | where is the rapture? | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 151782
Doc - I really struggle with preaching a pre-trib "rapture" of the church. Although I lean toward a pre-wrath "snatch" - I'm not going to go to the mat here. I believe that this reference supports a pre-millenial rapture of the Church. Also, v 15 refers to His coming - what coming? Since He came once - to die, the next time must be the second. Lastly, Acts 1:11 informs us that He will descend the same way He ascended. He ascended into heaven and a cloud received Him (Acts 1:9)- which would eventually conceal Him from their sight, so shouldn't we also expect to see Him revealed through the clouds as He descends? I think 1 Thess 4:17 echos this well. My 2 cents. I hope I haven't stirred the pot too much here. Blessings, mommapbs |

111 | God being lonely? | Gen 1:1 | Mommapbs | 151669
Angel - The genesis of this thread questioned the nature of God. "Is God lonely?" I commend you for recognizing human loneliness as a symptom of the need for God, but let's be careful when we consider His nature. IMO, your answer: "Lonely? Only in the sense that deep inside we, humanity, long for His companionship!", has the appearance of goodness -man is lonely for God therefore God is lonely (for man), but is this what the Bible says? Does our desire or longing for God make what we think true? (Thy Word is Truth) See Jer 23:28 Thinking that because we are made in His image does not elevate us to be the same - apart from what God has revealed to us about Himself, I believe it is dangerous to ascribe human characteristics to the Godhead Is 55:8-9. Apart from the mind of Christ, our thinking is human, fallen and flawed. Kalos wrote:'God did not lack anything in Himself that prompted His creative act. He wasn't lonely or bored. To say such a thing about Him would be to imply He is not eternally self-sufficient and perfect.' (www.carm.org/questions/whydidGodcreateus.htm) To me, this makes God's love for us even more amzaing! Blessings, mommapbs |

113 | Really live? | 1 Thess 3:8 | Mommapbs | 151634
Thanks Doc - Our faith is firm in the Lord, and it is the Lord who does all the work, so by refelecting upon this I can understand how seeing His work in the lives of others would be an encouragement to me when I am discouraged. God is faithful. mommapbs |

114 | God being lonely? | Gen 1:1 | Mommapbs | 151599
Greetings Angel - How could God every be lonely?! Nothing separates the Trinity, They enjoy perfect love and unity in community And in Christ, we do too! imo, only man experiences loneliness. Our loneliness perhaps is a good thing but all too often I suspect that many seek companionship from others and things that never satisfy the God-shaped vacuum in our heart that only He can fill. Blessings, mommapbs |

116 | Theological Terms: Regeneration | Titus 3:5 | Mommapbs | 151476
Doc wrote: "No one ever chooses to do what they do not deem will be best for themselves . . . For example, a robber might demand all of your money. You refuse. Now, the robber can alter the circumstances that contribute to your choice, by holding a gun to your head. Given the new circumstances, you choose to hand over your money. Are you being forced? No, you still have a free will. You choose what you deem will best lead to the objectives of your immediate happiness: you give him your money that your life might be spared." Does God know what man will choose before he chooses it? Does man know that God is the best? Before the Fall, was it the law of God (Gen 2:17) that provided the opportunity of choice for Adam and Eve? They were perfect and yet chose unbelief. You stated, "because of the fall, (man) has a "moral inability" to choose to obey God" What part of Adam and Eve's perfection resulted in their rebellion? They were perfect and yet had no knowledge of good and evil prior to the fall. Without this knowledge, would they have moral ability? If corrupt wills can not choose God, how could incorrupt wills NOT choose Him? Yet God gave them the freedom to choose to believe Him or not. Did He choose to save them regardless of their choice? Just as God did not force them or us to believe Him, doesn't He give each a portion of faith as well as Himself and an opportunity to believe Him? Does this make sense? Help me sort this out here. How does man come to know that God is the best -and therefore that His way is the best for man? How did Adam and Eve come to this realization? mommapbs PS Going back to your analogy, unless universal salvation comes into play here, we know that some choose the bullet. So your statement, "No one ever chooses to do what they do not deem will be best for themselves," doesn't seem to be true for the salvation of God. Not everyone chooses God's Way. Perhaps this is because they don't believe that God's Way is best, but their way is better. But doesn't God know that beforehand too? |

117 | Jesus Christ is whose idol? | Rom 10:17 | Mommapbs | 151460
Please re-read the thread. My question was directed toward heretical statements that fborn posted. Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Savior, Jesus is God. He is mine and I hope He is yours too.
118 | what type of tree are fig trees? | Mark 11:13 | Mommapbs | 151443
Emmaus - also for your consideration, Jesus may have cursed the fig tree because Adam and Eve used its leaves to try to hide their sin (Gen 3:7). Denial of sin will lead to destruction - but recognition and repentance leads to life (and the "fruit" of the Spirit - figs!). I suspect that many folks these days are still looking for fig trees . . . rather than to Calvary's tree. Blessings, mommapbs |

119 | And can we accept this challenge? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 151416
Ray - I asked you for some specific answers, not your comparison of text. Perhaps this is edifying to you, but I find what you have written in response as almost an "unknown tongue." As believers, we have a responsibility to one another . . . What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 1 Cor 14:26. I believe that our posts should be encouraging, looking to build one another up, an application of the truth that is personal but not self-focused and applicable to others for their growth. Eph 4:29; Romans 15:2 . . .let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds Heb 10:24 (Opinion alert)Anyone can read a commentary, or post old sermon notes, or mark their Bibles so that they have a clearer understanding of the Diety of God, but a personal testimony of God's activity in one's life can be a powerful source of edification too. (1 Peter 3:15) It saddens me that our dialogue has come to this and has garnered such an ungenerous response . . . God knows your heart Ray, I'd like to too. mommapbs |

120 | And can we accept this challenge? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 151341
Greetings Ray - I realize that this is very subjective but . . . from these Scriptures, what does God want you to focus on here about what He says about Himself and what He says about who you are? Are there any action steps that you believe God is calling you to do as a result of these verses? I'd be interested to read your responses to these questions. Blessings, mommapbs |
