161 | How does death work in us? | 2 Cor 4:12 | Mommapbs | 147712
Greetings terrib - great prose! Thanks for sharing that. In a rather twisted sort of way, I see a parallel to how death is at "work" to bring life. All too often I haven't let it do its work in me to remind me that my life is hidden in Christ and it is not I who live but Christ lives in me to will and to act and to accomplish HIS good purpose. (Which, hard as they are to understand, are always with what God knows is best for me in mind!) During a recent sermon, Hayes Wicker told the story of a Bhuddist's conversion to Christianity. When asked why he had "converted" the former Bhuddist replied that he came to a fork in the road where he had a choice to follow a dead man or a Man who is alive. He chose to follow Christ. Daily we, as believers, also have a choice: to follow the will of a "dead" man or the will of the One who is alive and living in us! Blessings, mommapbs |

162 | Compare to Romans 10:9; 1 Cor 12:3? | Phil 2:11 | Mommapbs | 146512
Greetings Pastor Glenn - thank you for your concern, it is a hard thing to understand. The "why" has become "what are You doing Lord?" Let's talk about the word glorify - to praise or give honor. (For me it is important to note that Jesus asks GOD to glorify Him - what should this suggest to us as we seek to be valued or esteemed?) see John 7:39 - for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (Is John speaking of the resurrection here? Is the resurrection the ultimate glorification of Jesus? Was He glorifed at His baptism? What about the Transfiguaration? Now I contrast this to Phil 2 -laying His glory aside did not make Him less Divine, but clearly (to me) demonstrates His awesome love to invade our low estate in order that we might be made to be like Him. What is the significance of the glorification of Jesus to us? (Sermon topic?) (See John 13:31-32; 17:1-10) Might it be important to clarify that the Holy Spirit was resident in Jesus as the God-Man? Reading John 7:39 might incline some to think that the Holy Spirit was not resident in Him - which would deny His Diety, imo. The death of Christ satisfied the wrath of God and provided a means for us to be "made new" - a Holy receptacle for the Holy Spirit to take up residence in us. (Isn't this part of "glorifying God in our body" when we rely upon His indwelling Spirit to will and to work as He pleases?) Let your Light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven . . . comes to mind here. Wasn't the resurrection of Christ the channel for the release of the Holy Spirit? - for which we should all be continually prasing and thanking God for this indesriblabel Gift of Himself!!! Thanks for any insight you might have. (It was a God thing for me to read your post, because these were the exact verses I was pondering this AM on "glorify.") Blessings, mommapbs |

163 | How does this verse apply to today? | James 1:13 | Mommapbs | 145587
Great post Aixen7z4! Recently I have been engaged in a study about faith and I am convinced that our "trials" are God given opportunities for us to "test our faith" and in doing so, to please God - "for without faith it is impossible to please Him" (Heb 11:6). With this perspective on difficulties, we can "count it all joy when we encounter various trials" (James 1:2-4) When we choose to believe God; to trust Him through the circumstance, we please Him. Giving our our attention to God - His supremacy and His sufficiency - takes the focus off of self and the situation. Oh that we would learn to practice this - what rest and peace we would have in the midst of the storms of life. Blessings to you Nobel! t |

164 | 2 Cor 4:4 | 2 Cor 4:4 | Mommapbs | 145339
Thanks Tim - On the other hand, might His deliberate revelation of Himself, despite a "lack of belief", be a measure of grace? What about believers? Although I believe that God is indeed so gracious to us, does our "unbelief" limit our ability to "see" the glory of God at times?? Blessings on your day - mommapbs |

165 | 2 Cor 4:4 | 2 Cor 4:4 | Mommapbs | 145304
Greetings Tim - I'd like to re-visit this verse with you for some input - could this "blinding" - meaning that unbelievers cannot see the glory of God in the face of Christ - be a mercy? What leads me to ask this is IF one "sees" God and rejects Him, is this not akin to balsphemy? By "blinding" an unbeliever, might this be God's mercy, allowing for a possibility of a change of heart to turn to Him at some future point? What are your thoughts here? Thanks, mommapbs |

166 | What does heaven look like? | 1 Cor 2:9 | Mommapbs | 145184
Well, Hank - that depends upon perpective - but we can't get into that discussion here!! Remember the "rules!" - momma
167 | What does heaven look like? | 1 Cor 2:9 | Mommapbs | 145183
Forgive me for my offense - it was not meant to be a judgmental or an "off the wall comment" but rather an attempt to prompt a consideration of how the things of this world have so captured our minds and hearts (perhaps especially of those who are dying) that we can not see the glory of the eternal. Even the dying need to be encouraged to let go of "this life" for indeed it will be taken from them. The better question is are they the ones for whom God has prepared a place? The place (heaven)is a sure thing - their faith is perhaps not. Telling a person what heaven is like imo is inappropriate if they have no hope of being there when they leave this earth. Jesus called us to REPENT - repent because the "wages of sin is death - eternal separation from God. Heaven is where God is - that should be enough for any believer. Encouraging for the dying should be to focus their attention on the peace they have or can have with God through Christ. Faith alone, nothing that they do will bring this and that is all they need to face the door to eternity. Those who die without peace are to be most pitied; for no Jesus, no peace. My two cents. Blessings, mommapbs |

168 | What does heaven look like? | 1 Cor 2:9 | Mommapbs | 145163
We can read about what we will see there, but no one knows what Heaven will "look like" except God! I suspect that we will be more than astounded - for one thing, I suspect that we will see many more people there than we expected! See Rev 21. Interesting that what we covet and horde is the substance that we will walk upon - How would you like to wear an asphalt necklace or bracelet? mommapbs |

169 | Clean and unclean animals? | Gen 7:2 | Mommapbs | 144949
Yes, you are correct lionheart, but that description was given in the Law - many centuries later. I'm just wondering if this might have been the means of identifying them - of course we have the oral record from Adam to also take into account. And since Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord, we might infer that he knew God and what He required - faith in following His command - recall how the Lord spoke to Cain and told him that he would be accepted if he did what was right - which goes right to the heart of things - his motives for obedience. Do you love Me comes to mind here . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

170 | The "goodness" of man? | Jer 17:9 | Mommapbs | 144948
Greetings Lionheart - yes, the heart of unregenerate man is wicked, but HOW should we see him? (As just wicked, or as worthy of the cross of Christ?) What makes us worthy of this awesome grace? (Man, being made in the image of God relates here, imo) What is the implication for us in our relationships with others . . . how we might encourage a non-believer to see himself? (God's love comes to mind) I completely agree with the Apostle Paul, in my flesh dwells no good thing - ah, but in my heart - there lies the Treasure, and if the Treasure has taken up residence there, my heart must also be holy - God tells us that it is, because He has given us a new heart. (Eze 36:26) This fact of a new Power Source should resonate throughout the church, empowering her to become the very arms and legs of Chrsit to a lost world - and yet sadly, we live from the habits of the old man all too often! Blessings, mommapbs |

171 | believers at Great White Throne Judgemen | Matt 25:32 | Mommapbs | 144876
Hi Nolan- I've been challenged to consider the sheep and the goats of this passage in relationship to "works." I read retxar's answer and agree that this is not the great white throne judgment - BUT when does this take place? Where else is this noted in Scripture - is this prior to the Millenial reign of Christ? Thanks for the assist here - I'll elaborate in a later post. Blessings, mommapbs |

172 | Second hand faith is workless! | James 2:14 | Mommapbs | 144014
Lionheart - I'd like to delve into this a little more - What about "works?" Most often "fruit pickers and fruit watchers" link works with good deeds that result from a life devoted to God.(I suspect that this attitude can lead to an addiction to service apart from trusting God aka second hand faith). . . But men who are unbelievers also can do "good things." Or can they? (Luke 18:19)See also 1 Cor 3:7-15. If God isn't in the work we will suffer loss. I'd like to suggest that faith, apart from the work(s) of God is dead. Because the word work is plural, I'd like to suggest that this may reference the work of the Trinity. The work of God the Father, the work of God the Son and the work of God the Holy Spirit are the "works" that give life to our faith - for His good pleasure!(Phi 2:13) Faith is a gift from God as well. (Roman 12:3) Eternity has been set in our hearts (Ecc 3:11) so that we are aware of Something more . . . Romans 1 affirms the God-given awareness we have of Him. And all that God calls us to do with the faith He has given us is to choose (Choose this day who you will serve) . . . perhaps our free will is our "work?" If we choose self, faith remains by itself. If we choose God, faith works! God works! "Apart from Me," Jesus said, "You can do nothing!" (John 15 :5)We are God's workmanship, created in Christ unto good works which God has prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph 2:10) This whole faith thing is ALL about God, this whole works thing is ALL about God too. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. God not only gives us the faith, but the Object to place our faith in as well - I suspect that many of us don't understand that the trials and challenges that God allows us to experience are actually opportunities for us to trust Him, to place our faith in Him, to please Him! My 2 cents. Blessings, mommapbs PS: I realize I'll probably incur the wrath of the leadership here for my "speculation" but I do believe that this is worthy of at least consideration. It is all about God and not at all about me. |

173 | Second hand faith is workless! | James 2:14 | Mommapbs | 143996
Greetings lionheart - an example of second-hand faith is believing what we are "told" or taught to believe without a "testing" or trying of our faith - kind of like going to the gym and just looking at all the equipment but never stepping up to use it. I'm interested in the "works" of this verse and v 17 "Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself." Blessings, mommapbs |

175 | Omit or not?To raise up the Messiah? | Acts 2:30 | Mommapbs | 143415
Ray - I wonder why you choose not to capitalize "holy spirit" in 1 Thess 4:7 How can you separate spirit from Spirit - God's Spirit does not change as mine does not (spirit) yet God gives His Holy (or holy, see below) Spirit to me, to dwell in me as a promise of my future redemption! Another consideration ** - 1 Thess 4:7, "For God/ has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. 8 Consequently, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His **holy **Spirit to you. 9 Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by (God) to love one another." 2 Tim 1:14, "Guard, through the **holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you." In both these verses the word holy is used as an adjective, yet we most often capitalize it when we refer to the Spirit of God - if we do this, then through out scripture should we capitalize all adjectives that preceede names of the Godhead? ie Gracious Father, Wise God, Merciful Lord, what about Savior? Blessings, mommapbs |

176 | Omit or not?To raise up the Messiah? | Acts 2:30 | Mommapbs | 143365
Ray - a point of clarification for me - when God tells us that He gives us the Holy Spirit is it Himself or a holy spirit? Ref: John 14:17; 1 Cor 3:16; 1 Thess 4:8; 2 Tim 1:14 How is it that we all share in one spirit? To me, it is Spirit. Believers are joined in their spirit to others by the Spirit. This is for the glory of God! Apart from Him, we can do nothing! How do you explain Col 1:27? Thanks Ray! mommapbs |

177 | Can God change our heart? | Ps 51:10 | Mommapbs | 143355
Greetings Robert - and old post but a folllow up to your suggestion of other verses . . . take a look at Eze 36:26. "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Far too often I have heard Christians declare that their heart is deceitful and desperately wicked; they entreat the Lord to "create in me a clean heart" (Ps:51:10) and in doing so, they deny what God declared HE has ALREADY DONE! God has given us a new heart - holy - fit for Him to take up residence in! Might this be the work of "regeneration" by the Holy Spirit? We are declared righteous and a new heart is created - spoken into existence from nothing. Our spiritual heart of stone is REMOVED, not re-made! Just think of it - how might believing God in this create a change in our thinking? How might this influence our self-worth? How might it influence our outlook on life and in our relationships with others? Blessings to you, mommapbs |

Greetings angel3 - Isn't it the reader's choice who to lift up? I don't believe that Rick Warren "purposely" set out to make a name for himself - he already knows he has one - IN Christ! Is n' this just like the devil, looking for ways to usurp God's glory?! Blessings to you - mommapbs |

Justme: I'd like to chime in here too . . .I found that while The Purpose Driven Life has had a good impact among many unchurched people, those who are more familiar with Scripture struggle with Warrem's use of so many different translations. It is as if he is picking a version to fit his message, not the other way around. my 2 cents mommmapbs |

180 | Speak from the midst of the fire to you? | Acts 9:4 | Mommapbs | 142233
Greetings Nobel - thank you for your words and good counsel. I think if you read several of my posts you will know that I do not go beyond what is written and always ask God to confirm His Word to me - I seek Him in His WORD first. I recognize the danger of hearing other voices and I want to be sure that it is indeed the Lord who is speaking. We are told to "test the spirits" How else do we do that but to go the God's Word for our authority? He has never failed to do as He has promised there! Experiences are my altar stones, reminders of God's sufficiency and supply. I depend upon His Word above all else. If God choses to speak to me through my cat, what prevents Him from doing so - but I do not seek to engage my cat for direction! You stated that "Dreams are not God’s communication with us." If they were for Joseph, what prevents Him from using them today? Not that I place any validity in what I dream, but if God chose to reveal Himself there, so be it. God know my every thought; he is aware of what I dream. Why should I not ask Him about those thoughts and dreams that trouble me? By His Spirit He has comforted me and no one can take that away. By His Word He has counselled me, and no one can remove that from me either. God has also corrected me through others; and He has revealed His nature through circumstances He has allowed to enter my life. I choose to be looking for Him - everywhere. Please do not misunderstand me Nobel, we have God's Word and THIS is where He most often speaks to us as individuals, BUT would you limit God by saying what He can and can not do apart from it? In Christ's love t |
