Hi Tim - wanting to be "clear as mud" on this . . why is being "born again" often perceived negatively? Discuss "born from above" a bit. Can we connect this to Ez 36:26, 2 Cor 5:16,17? Thanks for your input. Blessings t |

Greetings Hank - why is it that so many folks have trouble or angst over ther term "born again?" I'd really like your input on this, you wrote: I never refer to myself as a born-again Christian, because I hold that there neither is nor can be a Christian who has never experienced the new birth in Christ. Every believer in Jesus Christ is, by definition, "born again." Yet why are we so hesitant to proclaim this and what has been tied to this reality to make is so unpopular? (imo, legalism might fit here) The message of the Incarnation has been kept in the manger; imo, the reality of "Christ in (us), the hope of glory" (Col 1:27; 1 Peter 3:15) been ignored and perhaps even lost by some . . . Any suggestions or observations? Blessings, mommapbs |

223 | Why did GOD make woman from the mans rib | Gen 2:23 | Mommapbs | 138793
Greetings Toeknee - I agree we are all equal in value and equal in accountablity before God, but not equal in authority. For ALL have sinned; for God so loved the world (everyone); Christ died for ALL . . . There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:28. We are "one in Christ." We are all of equal value, but we are all different. We are part of "one Body;" we are complementary to one another. The man is the head of his wife (Eph 5:23)doesn't mean that they are not of equal value, but rather the man has authority over the woman. 1 Tim 2:13-14 (and yes, sometimes this is a really hard pill to swallow! I think it goes with Gen 3:16 "your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you." ) My 2 cents. mommapbs |

224 | Who is him? (Him or him?) | Gal 4:29 | Mommapbs | 138769
Greetings Ray - thanks for this! I hadn't considered the Ishmael/Isaac thing - good point. It continues to amaze me that many authors of "Christian" literature do NOT use capitol letters when referring to God by pronoun or noun (Spirit) and it not only bothers me, but confuses my thinking at times. When we read Scripture, it's ALL about HIM! God reveals Himself to us there - Who He is, who we are to Him, who and how we relate to Him. Jesus summed it all up in what is known as the greatest commandment! I wonder how we might be different and what might really happen IF we were obedient in this? We wouldn't have Ishmael and Isaac would we? Blessings, mommapbs |

Thanks Tim for your insight. I still wonder if God allows us to go blindly after our own way at times. 2 Peter 1:9? Indeed Israel is the key. However, It is sobering (and awesome!) to consider that God has done this to allow me, a Gentile, to see His Light! Blessings to you and yours. I hope you enjoyed the message I sent via e-mail too! May the Lord bless you during this season of expectation and fulfillment. Blessings, mommapbs |

226 | Who is him? (Him or him?) | Gal 4:29 | Mommapbs | 138736
No, I don't think that you are wrong. I suspect that although we might see "him" as anyone born of the Spirit - via the new birth, Jesus seems to fit here for me. Thus, I wonder why the NASB has "him" instead of "Him" ? Blessings, mommapbs |

227 | Who is him? (Him or him?) | Gal 4:29 | Mommapbs | 138686
Whe I read this verse, I immediately think of Christ. RE: "him who was born according to the Spirit" , Who is him? IMO, the conclusion of the verse, "so it is now also." is referencing the reality of the ongoing persecution of believers Jesus warned us (John 15:20) would accompany our faith in Him. Comments? (Ray - your comments here would be appreciated.) |

Greetings Tim: I'm still pondering this . . . now I am wondering if perhaps at times, God blinds the minds of US, (meaning those who are regenerated) because of OUR lack of belief? I am reminded of the verse "I believe, help my unbelief." Mark 9:24. imo We give lip service to God; we say one thing and yet do another. We "say" we believe God is for us and "in control" and then try to grab the steering wheel of our lives . . . can we see this "blinding" as a good thing? Comments? Blessings, t PS: As a man thinks within himself, so is he Prov 23:7 - the mind-heart relationship might be the problem here. In our minds, we are "blind" to the truth of the Gospel, The Truth is revealed and perceived in the heart. When we seek to "know" the Lord apart from HIS power, apart from His revelation to us, namely by just our minds, CAN we see God? Isn't this a form of "good blindness?" Blind guides come to mind here too! |

231 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Mommapbs | 138252
Part 2 Angel, you asked: "Consider this, if we are free and clear of unrighteousness, on our own--meaning not abiding in Jesus and Jesus in us, why would we suffer the internal struggle between the desires of the flesh and God's Holy Spirit?" My point exactly - we are NOT free of unrighteousness on our own, we cannot live nor can we resist sin apart from Christ. Imo, our adversary does not want us to understand this truth! Angel, you asked: "If we are new creatures in the Holy Spirit and we are not being lead by unrighteousness, what need do we have of Jesus mediating for us in front of the Father, would our righteousness not keep us from sinning?" We are a new creature, a new creation of God. He has removed our heart of stone and has given us a new heart - His dwelling place. Again, would God give us something that is sinful, evil or not holy and perfect? Sin still dwells within our bodies (Rom 7) so the potential to be led by unrighteousness is a sometimes not so "clear and present danger." Anytime we think we have no sin, that we have a righteousness apart from Christ, we deceive ourselves. And also, anytime we think that we can resist sin apart from the indwelling Spirit, we deceive ourselves too. It is HIS presence IN us that gives us confidence to stand before the Father. We are the "beloved of God." It is the righteousness of Christ that keeps us saved from the wrath of God. He is the mediator of a new covenant - He is alive - interceeding on our behalf before the Father, a continual reminder that our penalty HAS been paid. He remembers our sins no more . . .Under both covenants the righteousness of God is imputed by faith. Those He justified, He also glorifed . . . the just shall live by faith. When asked, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" Jesus replied: "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." John 6:28-29 It is ALL about Christ in us, the hope of glory - He does ALL the work. It is even HIS work that we believe! He saves us; He imputed His righteousness to us so that by abiding in Him, chosing to live by the reality of the union of our spirit with His Spirit, we can resist the power of sin - I suspect that our enemy does not want us to be aware of this truth. Again. the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Self effort is a huge obstacle - our worth and value are so tied up in performance expectations of self/others and the approval of self/others. This is contrary to who God says we are IN CHRIST - Completely forgiven, totally accepted and complete in Him. Anytime we try to work the work of God on our own, we are bound to fail! "Apart from ME you can DO nothing!" As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov 23:7) If we believe our hearts are wicked, we will live a life that is based upon a lie. We will live in the flesh, denying the power of the resurrection that dwells within our hearts. We will despair and lose hope - hope deferred makes the heart sick . . . But upon our confession of faith in Jesus as our personal Savior from the penalty of sin, God has given us a new heart. Again, would He give us something that is sinful? if we believe that our hearts are good, that they have been restored to our original glory, we will live as Christ desires: we have life and will have it to the full. Our life is IN His, He is IN our hearts, the power of the resurrection is available to every believer who choses to live in ITS power and not the power of the flesh. What difference might this make in your life? I suspect it might set you free from some things you never considered are holding you captive. Please prayerfully consider these things. Blessings, mommapbs |

232 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Mommapbs | 138247
Part 1 of 2 Angel, you asked: "The cleansing is there, the renovation is there... yet if we return to the vomit, like the dogs do, how can we shine in purity?" We can't. "Apart from ME you can DO nothing. Angel, you stated: "It is not enough to claim Jesus (John 15:5-6)" You're right, Jesus claims us as His own- "Apart from Me you can do nothing. He saves us by His Grace and keeps us saved. His grace is sufficient for us! Angel, you asked:"... if we do not remain in Him and He in us, when we transgress against God which part of our proclaimed rightousness keeps us from the wages of sin? First of all the wages or penalty for sin HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL. My sin is no longer counted against me for God's wrath was satisfied (propitiated) by the death of Christ! God has promised never to leave or forsake us. We can "ignore His presence in our lives" but He does not depart from us. Secondly, I do not proclaim my righteousnss, for I know that no good thing lives in me, that is in my flesh (Romans 7:18) I am declared righteous by God. Those He justifies, He also glorifies. The just shall live by faith . . .("Apart from Me, you can do nothing.") Angel, you asked: "does our transgression only count if we do not claim to have a righteous heart?" God tells me I have a new heart. He has created a new heart within me. Does God create anything that is evil or unrighteous? Yet, because my sin nature is still resident in my flesh, there is indeed a war for control taking place. I still sin and I reap the consequences of my sinful choices but I am no longer condemned, for my life is hidden in Christ. Angel, you asked: "When we obey the flesh (heart, mind, body--pick your choice word) and sin (trangress) against God, which rightous part of us is doing this? A house divided cannot stand. My heart is holy, on the basis of what Christ has done for me and in me I declared righteous by God, yet in my flesh I continue to sin. As Paul said in Romans - the reason I still sin is because sin still lives in me. I am freed from the penalty of sin but not from the presence of sin. But the most encouraging aspect of having a clean heart is that by the presence of God, I CAN be free from the power of sin. "Apart from Me, you can DO nothing." On my own, I cannot resist sin. If I think I can, this thought is sinful for it is contrary to God's Word. Angel, you asked: "If God cannot hold us accountable because we claim to be have a righteous heart, how does God hold others accountable to their transgressions?" God allows us to suffer the consequences of our sinful choices, but He no longer holds us accountable for the penalty of our sin - that was charged to Christ. Christ died ONCE FOR ALL. Christ's death was sufficient to pay for ALL my sin and ALL the sins of others. The "good news" is that the sins of believers are no longer counted against them! Angel, you stated: As long as we stay in Jesus we can do anything, including humbly obeying God's Will, but when we sidestep the Lord and surrender our will to the flesh our "choice," tainted by the desires of the flesh, cannot please God (Romans 8:4-13). Apart from Me you can do nothing. It God who is at work in you for His good pleasure.Phil 2:13 When we choose to cooperate and work with Him, we live out Ps 37:4. The spirit is willing because it is united with Christ's but the flesh is weak . . . yet how often do we rely upon the Spirit? We choose to live from the flesh, from self effort. Part 2 to follow |

233 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Mommapbs | 138172
Angel - please note Paul's discourse in Romans 7:14-25. He declares that he knows that no good thing dwells in him, where is this? (v 18)It is not his heart- it is in his flesh. By Christ's death and resurrection and indwelling Spirit upon our confession of faith, we have been freed from the penalty for sin and we have been freed from the power of sin. In heaven we will be free from the presence of sin. My sense is that we are ignorant of or complacent about the power that is in us, by the indwelling Spirit of God. Our hearts have been regenerated, they have been circumsized by God. "Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live." Dt 30:6 Apart from God's enabling we cannot keep His commands. In no way am I claiming that we do not still sin! Our old nature is still resident as Paul declares in Romans 7. Evil dwells in our flesh; yet, God can not exist with evil( No evil dwells with You. Ps 5:4). . . God's dwelling place is holy (Ps 46:4) Although we have sin dwelling in our flesh, the Spirit of God dwells in us: For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; 1 Cor 6:16; Christ dwells in our hearts thorugh faith (Eph 3:17) This is the realization of Lev 19:2 'You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.Lev 19:2 Our hearts of stone have been changed, transformed by God."Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." Ezek 36:26 As believers, our hearts have been changed, though once wicked and dead to God, He has made them to be His dwelling place: clean, good and holy, Through the power of Christ, we can resist sin. Daily we have a choice, to live from the heart or live from the flesh. (Rom 8:1-14) Think of it, this is the effect of the Incarnation - God with IN us! We have been crucified with Christ, we are dead to sin and it's penalty and we CAN be freed from its power if we allow Christ to live through us.(Rom 12:1-2) What potential we have - we can be all that God desires us to be. 234 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Mommapbs | 138168
Greetings again Ray - Here is a re-post of my original question: Most of us have been taught that our hearts are "deceitfully wicked," (Jer 17:9) yet Eph 3:17 declares that Christ dwells in our heart. Psalm 5:4 tells us that "no evil dwells with You" so how can this be?! So which is it: are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? Ray, please answer my question: As BELIEVERS, are our hearts holy or wicked? Blessings, mommapbs PS: You asked, are we "trying to have a heart of a god or of God. How much are we capable of doing on our own? How much are we capable of doing even if we have help from God?" This question addresses in part what I am asking us to consider. As unbelievers, we strive to be like God, Satan's original sin - rebellion against the Lordship of Jehovah. As fallen men, this same desire is resident within our heart - the heart is indeed decitful and wicked. Our hearts are turned away from God. But as you have noted, what happens when we turn to God with faith in Christ? What happens to our hearts? Jesus said, "Apart from Me, you can do nothing." Jesus also reminds us that "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Mt 19:26)Eph 3:17 declares that Christ dwells in our heart. Thus Paul rightly observes "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." We do nothing on own own, "for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." Phil 2:13 |

Greetings Hank - not wanting to split hairs . . . but Re Gal 6:15, Eph 2:10, 2 Cor 5:17 . . . Although this is of a different sort, it seems to me that God is still in the "creation" business. "Create in me a clean heart", also comes to mind. Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Mike - Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;" Gen 1:26 "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. . . .When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth." What was Adam's "likeness?" I'm not debating the "creation" of man - for indeed only two were "created", but I am questioning why you seem to deny Adam's likeness as the image of God, being passed on to Seth. Imo, we share in Adam's sin nature,(Rom 5:14) and in his image, the image of God, as well. mommapbs mommapbs |

Greetings Ray - I'll think on this a bit. It seems to me that God honors us as His beings, created in His image, by giving us the freedom of choice: to seek Him or remain in the darkness. Imo, because God has set eternity in the heart of men, I believe we all have an awareness of God. Yet, we lack the eyes to see or the ears to hear because we chose to ignore this awareness. I believe that when we CHOOSE to seek Him, He reveals Himself. More later. mommapbs |

Hi Tim - I read this devotional today by John Fisher - he cites, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings." – Proverbs 25:2 (NIV) pbs observes: God is "pro choice" - He gives us the freedom to seek Him or reject Him. Fisher goes on to say, "It’s remarkable how God has chosen to honor the dignity of human beings who reject Him . . . God has not made the truth about His existence obvious to everyone. When Jesus came, you had to have “ears to hear” or you missed it. Why doesn’t God make Himself more obvious to everyone? He is protecting the rights of those who don’t believe as well as those who do. If God were obvious to everyone, you would be a fool for not believing. In which case, some might believe reluctantly or for the wrong reason. As it is, you are a fool (1 Corinthians 1:18) for believing and those of us who believe can afford that foolishness because our faith confirms in us what we see but others don’t." Blessings on your day! mommapbs |
