82 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | Mommapbs | 155708
Yes, prayon I'm asking if my sisters and brothers recognize how the opponent of our faith in Jesus Christ works in their lives? To see opposition as a "sign" of our salvation, echos Christ in Mt 5 that we are blessed when we are persecuted for His sake. Yet do we recognize opposition to our faith as such? I don't all the time. In fact, I find that it is more palatable to be "tolerant" or compromising rather than to stand firm . . . this is where the encouragement of other believers is so important! Also, when I am not sensing those opponents I need to ask myself if perhaps I am walking to close to them? Certain relationships, associations and activities; doubt, self-righteousness and pride all have the potential to become opponents to my faith - and they can be SO discouraging when I fall prey to them! Yes, we fight against a spiritual adversary, but he uses tools of opposition that I believe are important to recognize too, hence my question. So, do you recognize your opponents? |

83 | Are these the "willfully sinning" v26? | Heb 10:39 | Mommapbs | 155602
Makarios, you are speaking of saving faith. I agree, apostates and unbelievers do not have this. The danger is, imo, that there are those who "say" they believe in God, yet do not know that they do not have the faith that is approved by God. Would you agree that there are those who know about God but do not "know" Him? Did the slave "know" his Master as he claimed? Could the talent represent what God gives us - faith - faith that is meant to be placed in the finished work of Jesus Christ, not in the ground. (Adam?) "He also has planted eternity in men's hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy]," Ecc 3 :11 (AMP) From this have I erroneously concluded that everyone has an "awareness of God?" Man has the ability to choose - to exercize faith in God (as evidenced in obedience to believe in Christ as God has commanded 1 John 3:23) or reject God - the wicked slave buried the talent. He did not respond to what the Master had given him.(Heb 11:6) He chose his way instead of the Way of the Master. What is our responsibility toward those who are apostate? (I am facing this issue right now with a friend who refuses to believe.) Thanks for your input! Blessings, mommapbs |

85 | Are these the "willfully sinning" v26? | Heb 10:39 | Mommapbs | 155575
Greetings Makarios! Knowing Christ differs from knowing God in Romans 1:21; Mt 25:24. Mt 25:25 "see what You have is Yours." Is it? Did the slave recognize God's ownership of him? Imo, if he had, he would have honored the Master with what had been given to him. Might the measure of faith (Rom 12:3) that God gives to each of us be a "talent"? God has given man an awareness of Himself and a measure of faith to respond to this awareness. People can know God and still be apostate. This is different from knowing Christ - belief, faith in His finished work; responding to God's love in Christ with the measure of faith that God has given. Comments? Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Doc - I've just returned from a vacation cut short by some family illness. Actually it is an anwser to prayer for me - this dear one will be going home in a "better way" than previously expected - sad times ahead but rejoicing that she knows the Lord gives us confidence and assurance. He has provided wonderful caregivers and perhaps will use this as a means to bring unbelieving family members to a saving knowledge of Jesus. You crafted that answer well. Thanks! If we go back to the Garden, we see the birth of sin and God's merciful response! Though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God (Rom 1:21) So, when an individual is apostate, blaspheming God, my attitude is this: I am grieved, distressed and prayerful that the eyes of their hearts will be opened, but if they enter eternity apart from God, that grief turns to a kind of anger - how could they reject such a great salvation? How could they not love God who love(d) them so? Now, hang with me here. While still alive, we are to love those who hate God as He loves them. After they die and go into a Godless eternity, their iniquities follow them Ez 21:24; Hos 9:9 -does He remember the sinner? What is God's attitude toward the unredeemed in eternity? Does God continue to love them? What should our attitude be? Sorrow to be sure, but at this point, aren't those who reject God eternally evil? We are told to "hate evil" - therefore chould a righteous anger toward evil asuage our feelings of loss and grief? Thanks for exploring this with me! Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings to you Makarios - I trust that your "completion" is faring well with you and your bride! Thank for the commentary. Is unbelief is the root of all sin? From these verses could we gather that there is a point that God says "no more"? He gives the opportunity to accept or reject His sacrifice; His offer of grace. Therefore, those who have had it extended and reject it are willfully sinning. This is a different position from those who might try to use this passage as a case against the eternal security of the believer. Any other thoughts here? Blessings, mommapbs |

88 | Who is giving the tenth? | Gen 14:20 | Mommapbs | 154931
Hi BradK - I was wondering about the original wording, if it identifies the pronoun "he" with Abram in some way. Reading in Gen 14. In v 21 the King of Sodom (who is this now, as earlier - v 10 it appears that the Kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fell into tar pits?) seems to demand that Abram give him the people he has recovered. This is interesting to me for it suggests the unseen battle between Satan and The LORD for the hearts and minds of the lost. I note that Abram went to rescue his nephew Lot from among those who were taken captive - but this is not to say that the King of Sodom was any less evil than those aligned with Cherdolaomer v. 5 - see also Gen 13:13. It appears in v 23 that since the goods recovered in v 16 were taken from Sodom and Gomorrah, perhaps the new King of Sodom had a right to ask for them? (I also wonder if the new King of Sodom consolidated the two kingdoms of Sodom and Gomorrah at this point? We hear no mention of the King of Gomorrah after v 10) It is interesting to note that this is the first time that Abram is identified as a Hebrew (v 13)in contrast to his allies,Mamre, Aner and Eshcol (vv 12,24). Abram advocates before the King of Sodom for these non-Hebrew allies to receive their share. From the text it appears that Abram has control of the recovered goods of Sodom and Gommorah and gives a tenth to the King of Salem (Melchizedek); now it is confusing. The King of Sodom just wants the people; he offers the goods recovered to stay with Abram, so perhaps this is what is distributed between his allies? Why did the King of Sodom want people over goods? Immediately following this account we read that the Lord says to Abram not to fear, for He is his shield and Abram's reward will be great Note Gen 15:15. What is Abram's promised reward? People. Interesting. And we still pursue things instead of people today . . . There must be a reason that the King of Sodom asked for people; are we willing to pursue these people from out of his hand - to take up the shield of Christ and join the Conquerer in their rescue from the kingdom of darkness? What do we care more about - lost things or lost souls? Just pondering this . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Doc - sorry to use this thread but I didn't want to post a general question as I would appreciate your insight here. Please comment on this statement I read in a draft of an author's book: "There is no wrath in God." The author's main focus is on God is love; he does not deny that God's wrath exists, but from what I understand, he does not see "wrath" as an attribute. I guess I struggle because I see wrath as a part of God's holiness and justice; mercy w/o justice is not mercy also comes to mind here. Thanks for anything you have to say on this topic. mommapbs PS:reference Ps 78:59 et al. |

93 | Two questions on this verse | Heb 3:13 | Mommapbs | 154033
Thanks! "admonish them at that very time, do not put it off or wait;" I wonder why it is that some believers don't take this to heart???? On a side note: my Pastor always said, "Doubt your doubts." |

94 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | Mommapbs | 153421
Hank, we will agree to disagree here - I can understand your disapproval. However, for me it was indeed helpful to where I am in my own personal walk with the Lord. I do not hold it akin to Holy Writ, nor do I accept everything that is written, but God by His Spirit has ministered to me through what I learned here. The cying need of man is the Savior, who gives us ALL that we need for life and godliness - an understanding of who we really are IN CHRIST is part of that. mommapbs

OK let's forget the word looney or loony - Perhaps you misunderstood my question. Although we don't agree with Wiccan "theology", (and there is no comparison), but strange as it may seem, it appears that they take their beliefs seriously. Seriously enough to perform all sorts of rituals that we find harebrained, ludicrous, nonsensical, quixotic, kooky, or tetched. (1 Cor 3:19) To them, perhaps our beliefs are the same. (1 Cor 1:18-25; 2:14)I just wonder how seriously some believers are about their faith. |

I'd encourage you to read it for yourself - this reviewer is looking for negatives to pick on, there is much to be gleaned from McGee's work. His complaint that he doesn't rely upon the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit is unfounded. "Apart from Me, you can do nothing" (John 15) comes to mind here! I found this text to be very Biblically sound and filled with priciples that have worked in my life to keep Christ as the focus, NOT SELF!! |

Doc - Looney? Perhaps not when the objective of their practices is to do things to please their dieties. In the same way, could Christians be accused of being "looney?" Is our desire to please God? Perhaps instead of calling these folks "looney tunes" it would be better to focus on the sad reality: they are lost! This alone should raise our level of concern about sharing the Gospel. (Which would definitely please our God!) mommapbs (I'm not the author of the original question) |

98 | How did Matthew know what Jesus prayed? | Matt 26:39 | Mommapbs | 153386
Good reference. Doesn't one need to be "awake" to be taught and inspired? Your point is well taken, but how much better is it for us to be awake and listening rather than to be shaken from our slumber? IMO, THIS is the message of that portion of Scripture. It is a warning for us to be alert and ready to receive that which the Lord has purposed for us to know (and act upon?). One must be "awake" unto Him to hear His voice above the snores of the world. Isn't this God's desire for us? (Watch and pray) And yet many choose to do as these disciples did - sleep. Indeed, "not as I will, but as You will." |

99 | Where is 666 desc in OT? | Rev 13:15 | Mommapbs | 153235
An individual who has looked at a copy of an ancient manuscript of Revelationhas noted that the characters that are translated 666 actually look like the Islamic symbol for allah. He suggests that the translators keyed off the word number in their efforts here rather than considering number as a people group, which imo fits quite nicely with identifying Islam as the beast of Revelation - Islam specifically denies the deity of Jesus Christ (antichrist). Islam fits in other ways also. Don't be deceived, it is not a religion of peace and we do not worship the same God, allah is not Jehovah!
100 | What's the proper response to injustice? | 1 Pet 2:19 | Mommapbs | 153232
Aixen - "But there are those who guard the gates and choose the players, and injustice occurs when some are denied opportunity." This has happened to me personally, so I know first hand how this "feels." Yet, I am convinced that God can use this for His glory, even though I'm not sure what consequence it will bring to those who have chosen to limit Him. imo, you have identified a tool of Satan in our midst. He doesn't have to work very hard to limit the Holy Spirit when our church leaders are doing the work for him. Perhaps this is a call of God to us as the body to be in constant prayer for those He has placed in authority over us, to pray that they will be obedient to their charge to "set in order the things that were lacking” (Titus 1:5). Blessings to you - mommapbs |
