101 | Counting signs in Galilee | John 4:54 | Michael Draves | 151927
The seven signs that count in the Gospel of John till the resurrection show the superiority of Jesus over Moses. Moses turns the water into blood and Jesus turns the water into wine. Moses last plague is the death of the first born and Jesus last sign is the resuscitation of Lazarus and his own resurrection.
102 | Which Asaph is in Psalms 73-89? | 1 Chr 25:1 | Michael Draves | 151697
It is unclear from the preposition itself whether the songs and poems are attributed to or dedicated to Asaph. I would think it more likely a dedication would be made to someone famous. Psalm 77 also refers to Jeduthun who is mentioned in 1 Chron 25:2 with Asaph so it is this Asaph, the one who prophesizes, and not the father of Joah, the recorder, in Isaiah 36:3 who is referred to.
103 | Why is a Cross with Jesus not idolatry? | Deut 5:8 | Michael Draves | 151691
The previous Pope's opinion can be found on: http://www.truecatholic.org/pope/honor.htm It contains the following statement: A teacher asked the children in catechism class: what is the difference between a Crucifix and the Holy Eucharist (after consecration). A child answer correctly when she said: on the Crucifix we see Jesus, but he is not there. In the Eucharist we do not see Jesus, but He is there. Based on the above it doesn't sound like the crucifix is idolatry. I am not sure why the cherubim were put on the Ark of the Covenant nor why Moses was asked to make the serpent on the pole which Hezekiah later destroyed because it was being worshipped even though the Gospel John uses it as symbolic of Jesus on the cross. |

105 | Were any of the apostles unwed? If so, w | 1 Cor 9:5 | Michael Draves | 151268
Maybe Paul wasn't married. 1 Corinthians 9:5 Do we not have a right to take along a believing wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? |

106 | No benefit from Christ if circumsised? | Gal 5:2 | Michael Draves | 150807
In context you can see that he doesn't view circumcision itself as meaning anything. The usual intent of chosing to be circumcised would be to follow the law which is impossible for us to do so we can't be justified by following the law. Paul himself circumcised Timothy and possibly Titus. Acts 16:1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. And a disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek, Acts 16:2 and he was well spoken of by the brethren who were in Lystra and Iconium. Acts 16:3 Paul wanted this man to go with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. Gal 2:3 But not even Titus, who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. Gal 2:4 But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage. Gal 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. Gal 5:2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. Gal 5:3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. Gal 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Gal 5:5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. Gal 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. |

107 | What does the day of pentecost mean | Acts 2:1 | Michael Draves | 150787
Christians celebrate the day of Pentecost 7 weeks after Easter. 7 weeks is 49 days plus 1 day is 50 thus the name Pentecost. This was the day the giving of the Holy Spirit became evident. There was already a Jewish holiday of Pentecost that is 7 weeks after Passover. This was a time of Harvests. Barley would be harvested during Passover and Wheat during Pentecost. Jewish tradition is that the Law was given on their Pentecost.
108 | What does "Christ" mean? | John 4:25 | Michael Draves | 150732
Christ comes from the Greek word for anointed. John 4:25 The woman *said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us." |

110 | contemparty music | Ps 33:3 | Michael Draves | 150578
Try searching for "new song". If contemporary music honors and gives glory to God what is wrong with it? Other than style the main difference I see with praise/worship teams is that they seem to run the service instead of the minister. Ps 33:2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. Ps 33:3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. |

111 | John is Elijah- reincarnation? | Matt 17:11 | Michael Draves | 150576
John the Baptist functions as a forerunner to the ministry of Jesus. Elijah will come before the Day of the LORD. John may have resembled how the people pictured Elijah both in appearance and in prophetic actions. John the Baptist is not a reincarnation of Elijah rather he has a symbolically similar role. Matt 17:1 Six days later Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and *led them up on a high mountain by themselves. Matt 17:2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. Matt 17:3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Matt 17:4 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." Matt 17:5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!" Matt 17:6 When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified. Matt 17:7 And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, "Get up, and do not be afraid." Matt 17:8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone. Matt 17:9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead." Matt 17:10 And His disciples asked Him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" Matt 17:11 And He answered and said, "Elijah is coming and will restore all things; Matt 17:12 but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Matt 17:13 Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist. John 1:19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" John 1:20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." John 1:21 They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he *said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No." |

112 | Is the widow righteous? Does it matter? | Luke 18:3 | Michael Draves | 150496
In the parable as presented in context it doesn't matter if the only point is persistance. But it would be unlikely that Jesus would be trying to teach persistant prayer for an unrighteous request. Jesus himself before giving a model prayer to the disciples said not to pray as the Gentiles do because they think they will be heard because of there many words. William R. Herzog II approaches the parable different by taking it out of the context the Gospel writer presents it in. He takes it literally as an example of how a vulnerable widow might get justice in the midst of injustice.
113 | Name the three comings of the Lord? | 1 Thess 4:16 | Michael Draves | 150484
Which of your 3 are among the following 6 events? Gen 18:1 Now the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. Gen 18:2 When he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold, three men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth, Dan 3:24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astounded and stood up in haste; he said to his high officials, "Was it not three men we cast bound into the midst of the fire?" They replied to the king, "Certainly, O king." Dan 3:25 He said, "Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!" Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; Luke 2:11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:12 "This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." John 20:15 Jesus *said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" Supposing Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, "Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away." John 20:16 Jesus *said to her, "Mary!" She turned and *said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, Teacher). John 20:17 Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'" 1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Rev 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, Rev 21:4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away." Rev 21:5 And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He *said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." |

115 | killed in battle w/ Philistines | 1 Sam 31:2 | Michael Draves | 150468
1 Sam 31:2 The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua the sons of Saul. 1 Sam 31:3 The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was badly wounded by the archers. 1 Sam 31:4 Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised will come and pierce me through and make sport of me." But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it. 1 Sam 31:5 When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him. 1 Sam 31:6 Thus Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men on that day together. |

117 | Who produces miracles? | 1 Cor 12:10 | Michael Draves | 150292
Mark 9:38 John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." Mark 9:39 But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. Mark 9:40 "For he who is not against us is for us. Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Matt 7:22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' Matt 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' Matt 12:25 And knowing their thoughts Jesus said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself will not stand. Matt 12:26 "If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? Matt 12:27 "If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason they will be your judges. Matt 12:28 "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 1 Cor 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 1 Cor 12:5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 1 Cor 12:6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 1 Cor 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Cor 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 1 Cor 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 1 Cor 12:10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 1 Cor 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. Acts 8:9 Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great; Acts 8:10 and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying, "This man is what is called the Great Power of God." Acts 8:11 And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts. Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. Acts 8:13 Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed. Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, Acts 8:15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 8:17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, Acts 8:19 saying, "Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." Acts 8:20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! Acts 8:21 "You have no part or portion in thisMatter, for your heart is not right before God. Acts 8:22 "Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you. Acts 8:23 "For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity." Acts 8:24 But Simon answered and said, "Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." |

Luke 3:16 John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
