182 | wrote about social justice in N.T? | John | Michael Draves | 103140
If you compare the synoptics Luke appears to have the most interest in social justice. William R. Herzog II interprets the Gospels from a social justice viewpoint with "Parables as Subversive Speech: Jesus the Pedgogue of the Oppressed" and "Jesus, Justice and the Reign of God:A Ministry of Liberation." Herzog is reliant on Bruce J. Malina who wrote "The Social Gospel of Jesus:The Kingdom of God in Mediterranean Perspective" and "Social-Science Commentary on the Synoptic Gospels." |

184 | Description of jesus written in the BIBL | Rev 1:14 | Michael Draves | 103103
The Gospels accepted into the canon do not describe Jesus before the crucifiction other than maybe having a beard. Revelation 1 13 and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength. |

185 | Were does B say Jesus paid for sins? | Acts 20:28 | Michael Draves | 103081
Acts 20:28 "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 1 John 2:1-2 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1 Peter 1:18-19 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. |

186 | Caiaphas's prophecy misinterpreted? | John 11:51 | Michael Draves | 103078
Caiaphas didn't consider his own words in verses 50 and 51 to be a prophecy but a statement about a way to avoid the Romans destroying the holy place and the nation according to verse 48. But his words are taken as a prophecy because he was the High Priest. The High Priest could be manipulated just like a King in Proverbs 21:1 "The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes."

189 | 1st church in America was what denominat | Acts 8:1 | Michael Draves | 102926
Depends what you mean by church and America. http://www.familytravelfiles.com/ezine/articles/255.asp For the history part L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is the anchor. ... it contains the only known evidence of the Norse presence in North America. ... around the year 1000 AD occupied the site ... The four-hectare site has a boat shed with its own Viking ships, a chieftain's hall, a church, a workshop, a central fire pit area used for storytelling and an axe throwing barrier. Here is a Catholic claim: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11664d.htm "when the second expedition reached Haiti, Father Perez celebrated the first Mass in the New World at Point Conception on 8 Dec., 1493, in a temporary structure; that this was the first church in America" Obviously there were later churches in the English colonies. You might check if there were any Russian settlements in Alaska with churches. |

190 | Where does Satan come from? | Rev 12:9 | Michael Draves | 102917
Passages about the king of Babylon in Isaiah 14 and the King of Type in Ezekiel 28 have been interpretted as the fall of Satan. In Job, Satan can be interpretted to be a prosecuting attorney. See also Luke 10:18 and Revelation 12:7-9. Mark 9 quotes the last verse of Isaiah as a description of Hell. The Parable of Lazarus and the Parable of the Feast seem related to a rabbinic parable about Bar Mayaan which has similarities to a much older Egyptian story of Setne and Si-Osire. |

191 | how does this show what to give to God? | Gen 1:27 | Michael Draves | 102631

192 | Pologomy Allowed? | Ex 21:10 | Michael Draves | 102430
Deuteronomy 17:17 and 1 Timothy 3:2,12 make limitations for certain leaders but there is no out right ban on polygamy in the Bible and polygyny was in practice. Protection is given to the inheritance of the firstborn son born to an unloved wife in Deuteronomy 21:15-17. See the paper "Is Polygamy Sin?" by Rev. Caleb Mathebula http://www.africanazarene.org/pages/education/thHome.html |

193 | ...liars, shall have their part in.... | 1 Sam 21:1 | Michael Draves | 102406
Didn't Joseph Fletcher in Situation Ethics demonstrate how keeping some of the 10 commandments in extreme situations could violate the intent of love? The command 'Do not bear false witness' has been taken as referring to being a witness in a court case rather than referring to general lying yet if someone is not honest in everyday situations no one should believe them as a witness. It could also be interpretted as not claiming to have a word from the Lord when the Lord has not spoken as in Ezekiel 13:1-14:11. I don't think there is a better answer than pray not to be lead into temptation but to be given a way of escape when such extreme situations occurs. But on the more every day side; is there any man who can be happily married and always answer their spouse honestly to 'how do I you like my new hairdo' or 'what do you think of my new dress'? Even Billy Graham back peddled on that one in an interview. 2 Corinthians 3:6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Ezekiel 14:9-11 9 "But if the prophet is prevailed upon to speak a word, it is I, the LORD, who have prevailed upon that prophet, and I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel. 10 "They will bear the punishment of their iniquity; as the iniquity of the inquirer is, so the iniquity of the prophet will be, 11 in order that the house of Israel may no longer stray from Me and no longer defile themselves with all their transgressions. Thus they will be My people, and I shall be their God,"' declares the Lord GOD." |

194 | Why can't I have several wives? | Ex 21:10 | Michael Draves | 102388
Monogamy is the ideal for marriage but the Bible allows polygyny but not polyandry. Marrying Tamar the wife of a deceased brother was expected of Onan in Genesis 38 and was later part of the Law in Deuteronomy 25 which doesn't mention whether the man already has a wife. This was an attempt to heal the social fabric by producing an heir to a deceased brother and support for his wife. Ruth 3 and 4 tell of Boaz marrying Naomi when the nearest kin refuses. David's adultery was taking another man's wife not his multiple wives but Deuteronomy 17:17 warned against Kings having multple wives. Women were treated as property and that is how the commandments were interpretted then. Paul taught in 1 Timothy 3:2,12 that Church leaders should have only on spouse but churches in Africa have been wrong to cause converted men to divorce all but one wife to be accepted into membership. Deuteronomy 17:17 "He shall not multiply wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away; nor shall he greatly increase silver and gold for himself. Deuteronomy 25:5-10 5 "When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. Her husband's brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 6 "It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel. 7 " But if the man does not desire to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, 'My husband's brother refuses to establish a name for his brother in Israel; he is not willing to perform the duty of a husband's brother to me.' 8 "Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak to him. And if he persists and says, 'I do not desire to take her,' 9 then his brother's wife shall come to him in the sight of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall declare, 'Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother's house.' 10 "In Israel his name shall be called, 'The house of him whose sandal is removed.' 2 Samuel 12:8 'I also gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these! |

195 | Did John the Baptist eat fruit or bugs? | Mark 1:6 | Michael Draves | 101103
Always took it to be the bugs since they are Kosher. Leviticus 11 NASB 21 'Yet these you may eat among all the winged insects which walk on all fours: those which have above their feet jointed legs with which to jump on the earth. 22 'These of them you may eat: the locust in its kinds, and the devastating locust in its kinds, and the cricket in its kinds, and the grasshopper in its kinds. 23 'But all other winged insects which are four-footed are detestable to you. |

196 | if you commit suicide do you go to heave | Luke 6:37 | Michael Draves | 101047
The Roman Catholic church may have a teaching about this but the Bible doesn't. To answer one way may encourage people that suicide is acceptable. To answer the other way makes the survivors live with the terrible judgement on top of the loss they have. If this happened to someone you know then consider the that the Judge of the whole earth will do what is right. If you are considering this yourself then aren't you angry at God and why would you want to see God now? Seeking counselling can help a depressed person. There are medicines for both depression and bipolar disorder. Unfortunately antidepressants can give a depressed person enough will power to commit suicide before the depression lifts. People need to ask for a different medication if their suicidal ideas don't stop with one medicine. |

200 | what is the importance of fasting? | Is 58:6 | Michael Draves | 100927
Fasting in the Old Testament was common during mourning, repentance, and to show humility. Sometimes it was done as an attempt to get prayers heard. Isaiah 58 shows compassion to be an acceptable 'fast'. Jesus indicates in Matthew 6:16 that if you fast don't do it to be seen by people. The disciples did not fast according to Mark 2 until after Jesus' death. A scribe added Matthew 17:21 which makes it sound like fasting was necessary for prayers to be heard to heal a demoniac.
