81 | is there biblical information on aging? | Lev 19:32 | Michael Draves | 159370
Lev 19:32 'You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD. Prov 16:31 A gray head is a crown of glory; It is found in the way of righteousness. Prov 17:6 Grandchildren are the crown of old men, And the glory of sons is their fathers. Ps 92:12 The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Ps 92:13 Planted in the house of the LORD, They will flourish in the courts of our God. Ps 92:14 They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green, Is 46:4 Even to your old age I will be the same, And even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; And I will bear you and I will deliver you. 1 Pet 5:5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. |

82 | Hebrew Expert needed for Gen 3:7 | Gen 3:7 | Michael Draves | 159364
I have studied Hebrew and Greek but do not claim to be an expert. The vowel pointing added by the Masoretes guide one toward a particular parsing but it's not part of the original text. Without the vowel pointings an original reader would have had to rely on context to guide them in choosing from possible parsings. "Niph'al" means a simple passive. "3" means 3rd person (he, she, they) The imperfect shows imcomplete action whether in the past, present or future. The waw or vav is used to indicate "and". The waw consecutive almost makes an imperfect verb seem to have complete action like a perfect. The Essentials of Biblical Hebrew by Kyle M. Yates Revised edition by John Joseph Owens p. 103-104: The prefixed waw is sometimes pointed waw plus pathah plus dagesh forte and in this case bears the title "Waw Consecutive." The Waw consecutive may be prefixed to the imperfect form of the verb. It not only joins the imperfect to it precedent but also shows that the imperfect is a definite consecution of its precedent. The translation of the Waw Consecutive is "and, and then, and as a consequence, furthermore, and as a result." ... The serpent decieved me and as a result I proceeded to eat. |

83 | God tearing down to build up? | Job | Michael Draves | 159249
You will have to decide if it was God who actually brought them down but consider Joseph, Job, Ruth and Naomi, Naaman, and the widow of Zarephath. Jeremiah's call: Jer 1:10 "See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To pluck up and to break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant." |

84 | r armor-bearers n use today? | Eph 6:11 | Michael Draves | 159072
Are you asking about physical or spiritual armor? You can do a search on armor bearer and find all the physical occurances in the Old Testament. There may even be one reference in the New Testament of being forced to be a armor-bearer: Matt 5:41 "Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. If you are talking about spiritual every one is to put on the full armor of God (Eph 6:11) themselves. Could someone with the gift of helps (1 Cor 12:28) be considered an armor bearer? |

85 | what does the bible say about working? | 2 Thess 3:10 | Michael Draves | 159068
Gen 3:17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. Prov 6:6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise, Prov 6:7 Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler, Prov 6:8 Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest. Prov 6:9 How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? Prov 6:10 "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"-- Prov 6:11 Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man. Eccl 5:18 Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one's labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Matt 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matt 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matt 6:27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Matt 6:28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, Matt 6:29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Matt 6:30 "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Matt 6:31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' Matt 6:32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matt 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. 2 Thess 3:10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. |

87 | Role of OT priests include physician? | Jer 8:22 | Michael Draves | 157751
Most healing in the Old Testament is attributed to God alone. Prophets were often mediators of healings. Priests appear to have diagnosed if a healing had already transpired. There a few references to physicians. 2 Kin 8:29 So King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. Then Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was sick. Jer 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has not the health of the daughter of my people been restored? 2 Chr 16:12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians. Lev 14:2 "This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. Now he shall be brought to the priest, Lev 14:3 and the priest shall go out to the outside of the camp. Thus the priest shall look, and if the infection of leprosy has been healed in the leper, 2 Kin 5:2 Now the Arameans had gone out in bands and had taken captive a little girl from the land of Israel; and she waited on Naaman's wife. |

88 | Did King David know about Absalom? | 2 Sam 18:14 | Michael Draves | 157749
I was going to make that assumption until I remembered how unfriendly Solomon was to his brothers as rivals to the throne.
89 | Did King David know about Absalom? | 2 Sam 18:14 | Michael Draves | 157746
Killing Absalom isn't spelled out in the offenses David lists to Solomon for wanting Joab dealt with. 1 Kin 2:5 "Now you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed; he also shed the blood of war in peace. And he put the blood of war on his belt about his waist, and on his sandals on his feet. 1 Kin 2:6 "So act according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to Sheol in peace. |

90 | Number 216 | Eccl 1:2 | Michael Draves | 157704
They probably got 216 by multiplying 6x6x6. Doubt they borrowed the idea from the movie Pi. Only know one possible use of 216 in the Bible and that is for counting the number of verses in Ecclesiastes without the 6 verse epilogue. The first word DBRY (the words of) in Ecclesiastes has a value of 216. The phrase translated Vanity of Vanities all is Vanity also has a value of 216 if the spelling of "all" in the Masoretic Text is correct otherwise the phrase has a value of 222 which is the total number of verses in Ecclesiastes. Counting verses, words and letters may have been a wise practice for accuracy but trying to find meaning in every number is like chasing the wind. Meaningless of meaninglessness its all meaningless.

92 | greek name for holy spirit | Acts 1:8 | Michael Draves | 156603
The closest to a name for the Holy Spirit is the reference to the Paraclete in John 14:16. If you mean a transliteration of the words then some of the possibilities are: pneumatos 'agiou tou 'agiou pneumatos tou pneumatos tou 'agiou to pneuma to 'agion |

93 | apressed peole | Ps 9:9 | Michael Draves | 153902
You might search for oppressed and oppression on the right. Ps 55:11 Destruction is in her midst; Oppression and deceit do not depart from her streets. Ps 55:12 For it is not an enemy who reproaches me, Then I could bear it; Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me, Then I could hide myself from him. Ps 55:13 But it is you, a man my equal, My companion and my familiar friend; Ps 55:14 We who had sweet fellowship together Walked in the house of God in the throng. Ps 55:15 Let death come deceitfully upon them; Let them go down alive to Sheol, For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst. Ps 55:16 As for me, I shall call upon God, And the LORD will save me. Ps 55:17 Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, And He will hear my voice. |

94 | middle of bible | Bible general Archive 2 | Michael Draves | 153895
Many sites on a google search claim Psalm 118:8 is the middle verse while some say Psalm 117 is the middle chapter. Your answer will depend on what you include and the order. You will have books of the Hebrew Scriptures in different orders depending on whether Jewish or Christian. You will have additional books and sections included if you are Catholic. A protestant will have more verses in the KJV (such as the ending of Mark and the Woman caught in adultery in John) than you will on a translation based on a more modern critical text.

If you are doing a research project you should be using the ATLA Religion Database to search for articles. A college library may have access online and a seminary may have the CDs. It superceded Religous Periodicals Index #1. For links search for "Matt 27:54" and "Matthew 27:54" with google including the quotation marks and weed through them yourself.
96 | What is the longest word in the bible? | Is 8:3 | Michael Draves | 152134
If you are looking for an answer of Maher-shalal-hash-baz in Isaiah 8:3 because it is the longest word you find in an English Bible with 18 letters it is only 10 letters in Hebrew and that is in 4 words. Esther 9:3 has a Hebrew word that is 11 letters and means "and the satraps". I would guess there are longer Greek words in the New Testament. What verse has the longest word in the original languages of the Bible and what does it mean?
97 | Who Was John Mark according to Paul? | 2 Tim 4:11 | Michael Draves | 152104
Paul acted like Mark was useless after Mark abandoned a missionary journey but later calls Mark a useful fellow worker. Acts 15:37 Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also. Acts 15:38 But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. Acts 15:39 And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. 2 Tim 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service. Philem 1:24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow workers. |

98 | Very interesting... | Ezek 1:10 | Michael Draves | 152102
This appears to be just Jewish tradition. If it were in aramaic instead of Hebrew I could understand wanting to change the word bull because it would sound too much like Torah but this is shir in Hebrew. I don't understand how Friedrich Delitzsch connected the Hebrew with the Assyrian saying "kirubu" equals "shedu" (the name of the winged bull). If it were just a miscopy I can see how a final bet could be mistaken for a resh or a dalet but it is less easy to see how the beginning shin might be taken for a kaf and a resh unless it looked messy.
99 | Is the face of a cherub a bull? | Ezek 1:10 | Michael Draves | 152050
Under the Cherub entry at www.jewishencyclopedia.com are the following: Concerning the form of these cherubim, an authority of the end of the third century says that they had the form of youths, ... . The last-named passage says that the cherubim which Ezekiel saw in his vision (Ezek. x. 1) also had this form, adding that the four creatures at the throne of God were originally man, lion, bull, and eagle, but that Ezekiel implored God to take a cherub instead of a bull; Ezekiel desiring that God should not always look upon a bull, which would continually remind Him of Israel's worship of that animal. It seems that the Talmud had noticed that Ezekiel's conception of the heavenly creatures differed from the traditional one. Following Lenormant's suggestions, Friedrich Delitzsch connected the Hebrew with the Assyrian "kirubu" equals "shedu" (the name of the winged bull). |

100 | Verity Standards Lion, Man, Eagle, Ox?? | Gen 49:9 | Michael Draves | 151931
The only one I can see verified is Judah as the lion in Genesis 49:9. The 4 animals sound like the faces of the creature in the vision in Ezekiel or 4 constellations. Ezek 1:10 As for the form of their faces, each had the face of a man; all four had the face of a lion on the right and the face of a bull on the left, and all four had the face of an eagle. |
