Absolutely I believe what I am saying. I would not say it if I didn't. I completely and totally believe in the word of God and the power there in. God's word is holy and pure my brother and thank God we have it. Why even attempt to try and exclude it from those seeking the truth? My point to javelin and any others who read the post was not to discount him or apologetics in any way. (And by the way, I love the CARM web site. I spend much time there myself. Brother Matt has much to share). My point is I think we should always turn to God and His word for the truth and to reach the lost and confused. In this case the seeker was confused and seeking answers, looking for the truth. I believe apologetics is the practice of defending the faith is it not? That's not to say many of the arguments used in apologetics cannot also be used to help the seeking understand. But I believe based on God's word that sharing his word with the lost and seeking will prove much more effective. It is fear that motivates me to respond to brother javelin's post. Fear for this 14 year old confused young person and fear that any may think we (mankind) can separate our self from the word of God and still find His truth. Now having said that let me also say, I don't think for a second that brother javelin was attempting to separate God from the truth. My point is to reveal the truth you must use the truth and in God's word we find truth and we know the power there of so why exclude it. Also brother, I find two points somewhat ironic in your post. You ask me not to discount the efforts of an intelligent believer yet it appears you are willing to discount what I had to say and I was pointing to God's words not mine. Maybe it's that you don't count me as an intelligent believer. That's okay with me because it's obvious to me you did not understand my post or you would not have thought I was attempting to discount brother javelin. I accept the blame because to be honest with you, some times passion over comes and I may not think through what I say before saying it and making sure I am clear on what I say. This is just another reason why we should point to God's word and not our own. I can assure you though, I am a believer and I think God for my salvation and all He is to me. I also stand by the post and the scriptures referenced there in. The second point I find ironic is that your own argument to me does what? Point's to God's word to get your point across. Wonder why you would do that? |

okay, all criticism aside for this one, please. I do not mean to discount the Word of God in any way(as is clear I believe in the infallibility). the same reason that I used scripture to respond to your criticism of javelin for not giving scripture is why I used scripture to respond to you. we are speaking a commonly held belief in the Scripture. if I did not hold the Word to be true your stating that it is so without reason is a sure-fired way to get tuned out. I respect your faith, but how can a person who is apparently lost and without the Holy Spirit to illuminate them know what a particular verse means? they can read it all day long and know what it says without knowing what it means. I know this because I was one of those people not so long ago. the Holy Spirit can use the witness of Norman Geisler,Frank Turek or Chuck Colson by establishing a very valid system which proves the existence of truth apart from the Bible, then moving to the Ultimate Truth that the Bible is true and historic(Chrisitanty is the only true historic faith-all others fail on any of a great number of points) I do believe that the presentation of the Romans road or the "Gospel" of the salvation of sinners by Christ is the end goal, but we must not discount people too quickly when they ask questions that require physical proof(Jesus certainly didn't seem terribly offended by the Apostles wanting to touch Him) God knows our hearts and can and will provide all we need to have faith. I do not mean to be critical of you in any way at all and if I were I apologize. my wish is for the greatest number of people to come to a saving faith by any and all means possible as provided by the members of the body of Christ utilizing their special gifts to do the good works that God had set for them to do from eternity. God bless all you do | ||||||

2Fedex, No criticism. I promise. I would just like to point out a couple of things to you, if I may, in response to your post to humbledbyhisgrace since it will follow up my response to you earlier also. You said: “but we must not discount people too quickly when they ask questions that require physical proof(Jesus certainly didn't seem terribly offended by the Apostles wanting to touch Him)” John 20:29 Jesus said to him, Because you have seen Me, Thomas, do you now believe (trust, have faith)? Blessed and happy and to be envied are those who have never seen Me and yet have believed and adhered to and trusted and relied on Me. See, we weren’t going to get the hands on proof (and didn’t get it) that the disciples were privileged to receive. But we did get the Holy Spirit and Scriptures. You also state: “but how can a person who is apparently lost and without the Holy Spirit to illuminate them know what a particular verse means?” Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. We can’t give anyone the Holy Spirit we can only point them to the Scriptures. And then you stated: “God knows our hearts and can and will provide all we need to have faith.” Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. We need faith. That’s why I asked where faith fit into a certain line of reasoning. Without faith why would anyone believe? And where can we get that faith? We get it from God through hearing His message. That’s why I know that the Bible can be used to prove God’s existence to someone who does not believe, because it contains God’s message to us and we cannot concoct anything better than that. If we are seeking the truth, we’ll find it in Christ. We’ll find the eyewitness accounts of Christ in the Bible. Luke 11:9,10: 9"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. My point is this: If one is truly and honestly seeking the truth, they’ll find it in Scripture. We can only lead them that far and then God will do the rest. That's all I wanted to point out. In love WOS |
