wow, do you honestly believe what you are saying? sir, with all due respect all truth comes from God the eternal one. I agree there are many who harden their hearts and will never receive Grace, but please never discount the efforts of an intelligent believer to help someone to see God even apart from the Bible. apologetics is also prescribed in our scripture in 1Peter 3:15. in addition Paul was perhaps the greatest apologist in history and if you think he didn't use apologetics go to Acts chapter 17 in verse 16 and following. your brother in Christ , fedexguy | ||||||

Dear Fed, Not all that is true is in the Bible, although all things in the Bible are true. Humbledbyhisgrace is affirming the authority of Scripture. Sola Scriptura does not deny the ability of man to reason, on the contrary that is a given. As the old divines put it, "The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience, although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God, as to leave men inexcusable; yet are they not sufficient to give that knowledge of God and his will which is necessary unto salvation." However, human reason is never fully sufficient to properly understanding the Scriptures. "The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for his own glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down or necessarily contained in the Holy Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelation of the Spirit, or traditions of men. Nevertheless, we acknowledge the inward illumination of the Spirit of God to be necessary for the saving understanding of such things as are revealed in the Word." In addition, we must remember that the human mind and heart do not always operate properly. They have been corrupted in the fall. Even the regenerate are subject to erroneous thinking, rationalizations, and inordinate affections. This forum emphasizes the authority of Scripture. The Word is, "the supreme judge, by which all controversies of religion are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined, and in whose sentence we are to rest." Consequently we seek to have the Scripture form the solid foundation from which we reason. We welcome your participation in the forum and look forward to your contributions. In Him, Doc |
