Rowdy: Old Testament not applicable, is that what you say? Well, at least Ted Turner agrees on this, in part at any rate. He is on record as saying the Ten Commandments are outmoded and not applicable to modern society. ..... The Old Testament not applicable? Hmmm...wonder why Jesus and His apostles quoted it so much? ...... The Old Testament not applicable? What do you suppose we should do with it? One thing's for sure, if we tossed it away, it'd sure make Bibles a heap lighter to lug around. .... Now, Rowdy, surely you don't think God has effectively nullified two-thirds of his Word by replacing the Old Testament with the New, do you? --Hank | ||||||

This response is submitted to both you and Kalos. For some reason you and he seem to think that I'm advocating literally deleting the OT from the Bible. I could no more do that than I could cut off my right arm. I appreciate so very much the tremendous value of the OT. It gives us the background to better understand the NT. Without the OT, the NT would be almost useless except for merely meeting the terms and condition of salvation. Without the OT, we wouldn't know and appreciate the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and planning our Father put into his mystery, His Plan of Salvation, the main theme throughout the OT. Without the OT, we wouldn't know and appreciate all of what God's family of Jews went through in their long journey, from the wonderful followership of Joshua's and Kavid's lead to plumb the very depths of disobedience with a multitude of badly chosen kings. You see, the most wonderful thing we humans are to learn from the OT is that God will love us forever, even when we're at our worst...yes even when we follow the lead of our Jewish ancestors. Our God in the form of His Son went to Hell itself to save you and me. So, please believe me as I've said before the OT is incredibly valuable to us as christians BUT it has no authority in our lives. It's a dead body of laws which is a wonderful item for our study and reference. We must keeep the OT in perspective. We'll be judged by the words of the NT as comissioned by the Lord and His official representatives. Again, the OT is a wonderful source for confirmation of the NT BUT when the OT shows an inferior standard in contrast, the NT MUST be adhered to. This is NOT a contradiction. This IS what God intended to happen. He was educating all of mankind with the OT and its 600 plus ordinances. Now He wants us all to graduate and learn to prefer His spiritual world instead of this physical one. He wants us to figure most of the details of this modern dispensation by using our minds and infer when we need to from His Word. Just like we prefer our kids to grow up and learn to mature and figure out their world without specifying each little step to reach their own goals. I do hope this is clear. God bless. |

Words of Wisdom from Morant61: "In a debate, it is useful if you respond to the points that the other side makes." Regarding my Note "The law cannot be altogether invalid...", I have repeatedly asked: "If you disagree with any of the following, could you quote at least some of the part(s) you disagree with and tell why you disagree"? In other words, please directly address the points I have made. Instead of repeating a general statement you previously made, tell me specifically what is wrong with the points I've made. # 113992 |
