Dear New Creature, 1 Cor 12:28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. Men will continue to disagree on interprtation til the Lord returns and my opinion is that no one has a perfect understanding of God's Word. Nevertheless, it remains our duty to study and pray for enlightenment. I have had my understanding of certain doctrines completely reversed during my lifetime and have reason to suspect that the Lord may have more surprises in store for me. For this reason I demand scriptural proof before I am convinced of the efficacy of any doctrine of any denomination. What concerns me is your disdain of teachers. Unless I am mis-reading you, it sounds as if you have no regard for the rest of the body. I hope that you do not claim to have possession of all the gifts of God that are only available to the body as a whole. God has ordained some with the gift of teaching but New Creature says throw away their works and disregard what they say. Through your posts you have sought to teach others. You have declared certain doctrines as wrong and others as correct. Frankly, your teaching is somewhat confusing. God has ordained teachers but you disregard them. Then you say, learn from the Word alone, but you don't believe in "sola scriptura" which means scripture alone is the final authority. Can you explain any of this to me? John Reformed |

John Simply stated; After reading many of the commentaries, I see the trend is that even notable commentary authors can't even agree with each other. I have compared what the teachers of the past as well as what the modern teachers of our day have put in black and white, with the clear teaching of the Bible as the Holy Spirit guides and have yet to find a single commentary that is Scripturally accurate. I am not saying everything that is in the commentaries is unBibical. The problem as I see it is that many subtle errors that have no Bibical justification are found in every commentary, and in many instances mis-lead. That is why I personally put no trust in man's word. Just keeping my nose in God's word, and TRUSTING that the Holy Spirit will give us discernment, and help us spot truth from error, is what is needed today. IN my experience, many churches which have Bible Studies, or small cell groups, can't even do a Bible study these days without running to the nearest Christian book store to purchase Bible studies which are not rooted in a Bibical perspective, but rather in a denominational perspective. We live in the days of an aphetic, lukewarm, and even apostate church, which only desires to hear itching words that will tickle their ears and make them feel all tingly inside. If I sound negative, thats because I only see negative things happening within EVERY church I have tried. But then we know what God's word says will happen in the last days, and how there will come a falling away BEFORE the Lord's return. 2 Thess. 2:1-3 Blessings New Creature |

"Just keeping my nose in God's word, and TRUSTING that the Holy Spirit will give us discernment, and help us spot truth from error, is what is needed today." And when two people claim to be doing just that and arrive at contradictory conclusions, then what? Being taught by the Holy Spirit is no guarantee against error. In such cases, the problem is not the Teacher, but the fallibility of the student. Surely you are not claiming that when it is just you, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit, that you are infallible in your understanding of Scripture. Jesus Christ established the CHURCH for a reason, and while I do not hold any church to be infallible, completely rejecting the church as an interpretive authority in favor of any form of alleged individual infallibilty is simply foolish. "If I sound negative, thats because I only see negative things happening within EVERY church I have tried." One reason for that is that the church is composed of people like you and me. If you are expecting perfection in the church, you will have to wait till we are in heaven. On the other hand, I would not put the doctrine of eternal security/perseverance of the saints in the category of "heretical doctrine," even if I disagreed with it. There are countless saints of God in church history who held to this theological perspective, and whom God used to extend His kingdom in significant ways. --Joe! |

Greetings Joe! Amen! There is definitely wisdom in numbers. I would be very concerned as an individual, if I were to believe something that no one else believed. :-) In fact, I usually teach my classes that one way to avoid false doctrine is to be very suspicious of anyone who claims that they have discovered something that no one else knew before or that everyone else is wrong! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
