I have read a few of those books. I posted some articles about staying away from them on a forum and got sucj flack that I read them just to see what the noise was all about. This is my opinion. First of all, I don't see how a 6 yr old can read them by herself, she must be exceptionally smart or does your husband read them to her? There are many made up words too that are stupid to be exact. :) I thought the books were the silliest, most ridiculous stuff I've ever read. They made fairy tales seem true. I couldn't believe that they were anywhere believeable but the way kids believe some of this garbage they show today, it may possibly be. I've read too where this woman stole the idea for these books too from another woman who wrote them many years before. The boy was Larry Potter and there were Muggles and other likenesses. Seems a shame she should make a killing by plaguerism. I have a 9 yr old. I won't let her read those books now simply because of the stupid factor. There are plenty of books that can enrich your mind that are fiction too. I'll not have her filling her head w/garbage. There's too much good, postive things to read. Read Aesop's Fables, at least you get a good story w/a moral. :) |

Norrie Here I go quoting a woman I only listened to for about 10 minutes. She claimed what you describe as silliness was in fact a mask that children see through. The only real knowledge I have of the books are this 10 minutes and the previews of he movie on TV. If the book is anything like the previews I wouldn’t read them myself. I have had to deal with a kid up to his ears in this. He opened the door harmlessly enough and end up with a talking statue made of concrete that he could only get to shut up by feeding blood. His arms, legs and most reachable parts of his body looked like they went through a war. Whether it was real or not, it was real to him and after I got involved it became very real to me. No thanks I can entertain myself other ways. |

That is what I'm saying too, find others ways of entertainment. There are too many good things to waste time on trash. I only read them so I could have a knowledgeable opinion. I thought stupid was an accurate accessment. :) I know witchcraft is nothing to play with, didn't I already relate my experiences w/ouija board? But these books were so far out, I didn't even think a moron could take them seriously, but maybe I'm overestimating morons. :) I didn't think they were in the same class as Dungeons and Dragons or other not so subtle things as that. Ed, you'd have to read this for yourself, first chapter and you'd think nobody could take this seriously, it's too stupid, but like I say, I give idiots more credit then they deserve. :) |

I believe that some of the cartoons and video games out are more demonic than those Potter books, like I said, I thought they were just stupid. Then too many of the cartoons today are almost pornographic too. I only let my daughter watch the old cartoons, nothing new. :) | ||||||
