Bible Question:
My husband and I have had a recent disagreement on the "Harry Potter" books. I believe that Satan has been on the rampage, softening the line between good and evil, making it seem "harmless" and "child's play" and he believe's there's nothing wrong with our 6 year old daughter reading them. He says that she knows that witchcraft is not real, and that's all that matters. We are both Christians, and have recently become members of a church, and are relatively new to this all (about 3-4 years). Anyone have an answer? |
Bible Answer: I have read a few of those books. I posted some articles about staying away from them on a forum and got sucj flack that I read them just to see what the noise was all about. This is my opinion. First of all, I don't see how a 6 yr old can read them by herself, she must be exceptionally smart or does your husband read them to her? There are many made up words too that are stupid to be exact. :) I thought the books were the silliest, most ridiculous stuff I've ever read. They made fairy tales seem true. I couldn't believe that they were anywhere believeable but the way kids believe some of this garbage they show today, it may possibly be. I've read too where this woman stole the idea for these books too from another woman who wrote them many years before. The boy was Larry Potter and there were Muggles and other likenesses. Seems a shame she should make a killing by plaguerism. I have a 9 yr old. I won't let her read those books now simply because of the stupid factor. There are plenty of books that can enrich your mind that are fiction too. I'll not have her filling her head w/garbage. There's too much good, postive things to read. Read Aesop's Fables, at least you get a good story w/a moral. :) |
