Subject: On Harry Potter? |
Bible Note: Greetings Ed! Don't get me wrong! I have an open mind on this subject. I do believe in angels and demons, so I'm not an anti-supernaturalist. I was just struck by how little there is in the Bible about this issue and I was wondering what a Biblical view of magic would look like! For example, the passages you refered to could simply be examples of very good charlotens (sp?). The witch of Endor seemed more surprised than anyone else when God allowed the spirit to speak! :-) I haven't done any kind of indepth study on the words used, but I have noticed over the years a couple of facts. 1) Most of the words have to do with the use of drugs (potions, hallucigents, etc...). 2) Most of the passages dealing with magic focus on attempts to divine the future, without appealing to God. If magic, as we think of it, does exist, the following must be true: 1) It is demonic in source, not natural. 2) It would have no power over believers. Either way, magic in the Bible appears to be very different from the popular conception of it. It would be a very interesting study! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
