The Creation of Man - A Picture of God (Part 2 of 2) Here is the rest of the article, which includes the part on the Trinity. The Creation of Man - A Picture of God (continued) Throughout the centuries, man has struggled with the concept of the Trinity, looking for analogies which comes close to doing it justice. Most fall woefully short. Perhaps we should look to God himself and his creation of man for the best analogy. Our study of the creation account tells us that God created man as body, soul, and spirit. Yet when we think of one another, we tend to merge these three together as we describe who someone is. So while we may separate man into these components, we naturally never lose sight of the fact that all of them make up the man. So it is with God. While we may separate God into Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we ought never lose sight of the truth that all three, in perfect harmony and unity, make up one and only one God. The theological debate over whether man is made up of two parts (dichotomy - flesh and soul/spirit) or three parts (trichotomy - flesh, soul and spirit) is beyond the scope of this article. In fact, a careful biblical study may lead us to conclude that it may well be beyond the scope of that which God wants us to devote much attention to. The Christian life is one of balance. This applies to all areas, including our theology. For instance, to focus on the biblical truth of the sovereignty of God, at the expense of the responsibility of man, will lead to an extreme, and unbiblical, theology. In like fashion, to focus on the parts of man at the expense of the unity of man may lead to an equally exaggerated and unbiblical doctrine of man. The same is true of God. To focus undue attention on one person of the Godhead over the others or of the unity of the three as one, has lead to all sorts of false theology throughout church history. While God commands us to study to be found "handling accurately the word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15), he does so after just warning us not to "wrangle about words, which is useless, and leads to the ruin of the hearers." The goal of study is to know God through Christ. This is eternal life (John 17:3), and eternal life is God's greatest desire for us. We must be careful to pursue that desire for which we were created. In so doing, God will be glorified, and the lavishing of glory on Himself is the ultimate purpose of everything which God created and made. |

Sir Pent and GeneralWas, I'm responding to this thread in order to clarify a possible misconception - mainly because my online ID was used. If you have read any of my postings, you'll find that, except for scripture, I refrain as much as possible from "cut and paste" responses. I feel that if I can't explain my opinion with my own words or thoughts, then I should not respond to a question. Your question seems to imply that possibly GeneralWas and Bill Mc are the same person. I assure you, they are not. Unfortunately, there is no profile for GeneralWas so I couldn't email him. While, I did post the link in a previous thread (responding to a question from JVH0212) I will not "copy and paste" theological points of view to this forum. In fact, if you check some of my prior discussions with other members, you'll see that I have asked others to use that technique sparingly. I would also NEVER create a false online ID to mask my identity. GeneralWas, could you please confirm this? Christians on this forum can follow the link as curiosity and the Spirit leads. In Christ, Bill Mc |

Greetings Bill Mc, Appearantly I have offended you, which was not my intention. I was truly curious as to how there could be such a similarity of views. This does not neccessarily mean that GeneralWas is also Bill Mc. In fact it is more likely that GeneralWas is James A. Fowler, who actually wrote the article on the webpage that Bill Mc cited. However, neither of these possibilities could be true, and all three people could be completely independant. I was just unfamiliar with that particular theory and was surprised to suddenly find it repeated from so many different places. |

Sir Pent, there was no offense taken whatsoever. Please don't feel that I've taken any. I just wanted to make it very clear that I have no ties with GeneralWas (as far as I know). To be honest, that link was forwarded to me from another forum poster and I have not even read anything on it concerning Fowler's theory of the Trinity. The Trinity issue, for me, is something that I (rightly or wrongly) have never been able to comepletely understand and I accept it as fact by faith. Go in grace, brother. In Christ, Bill Mc |

Sir Pent and Bill Mc, I find this fascinating, though not peculiar. First of all, I do not know Bill Mc, we are not the same person. Furthemore, I have not read any of his posts to date, though I am encouraged to do so now, especially the one to which you refer if I can find it. Also, I have not heard of, and hence not read anything by Fowler. The ideas I stated came from my own personal study and gleanings from the Scriptures. It does not surprise me, however, that the interpretations are similar, even remarkably so, to others. After all, the interpretation of the scripture is a work of the Holy Spirit. Honest and spirit-led study should lead men of God to the same truths, those which God intended in His Word. Your post encourages me that I did not misinterpret what He led me to. Thanks. |

GeneralWas, thanks for your confirmation. To make your search easier, the web site link is www.christinyou.net You make a very good point about the "search for truth." To me, truth is what God says. God says that we would know it because the Spirit would take the things of Christ and make them known to us. There are many wonderful Christian brothers and sisters that post on this forum. But there is also a tendency for some to reply to questions with a 'cut and paste' answer from their commentaries. While I agree that a commentary can be a great tool, it can also become a crutch. As you said, the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth of scripture interpretation as we rely on Him to reveal the meaning. In my opinion, many Christians know what scripture SAYS but they are clueless as to what it MEANS to them because they rely on the theologians and commentaries first instead of letting the Spirit and other scripture interpret scripture. Continue to be a Berean and thanks for your reply. In Christ, Bill Mc |
