1 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141233
How do we know that we are truly saved? Are there any scriptures that tell us if we are saved? If so, please tell me what they are. Just because I am a pastor does not mean that I really know the right answers. So do not see this as a test that I will grade. :-) Honestly, I do not feel that these questions are discussed enough, so I will not respond except to clarify or ask followup questions. Any comments? 2 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | DocTrinsograce | 141234
Hi, Pastor Glenn! Good discussion question! Note that any of the answers that I give below are not absolute guarantees of salvation. They are gleaned from the scriptures. They may not be exhaustive, partly due to my memory, but also because I may not have thought of everything! :-) Anyway, I hope this helps. 1. Have I called upon the Lord for salvation? (Acts 2:21) 2. Have I recognized my sin and need for God, repenting demonstrating repentance in my life (i.e., is my life changed)? (Luke 13:3, Matthew 3:8, 1 John 1:8-9) 3. Have I the confidence of the Spirit that I am saved? (Romans 8:16) 4. Do I have a zeal for good works? (Titus 2:14) Is work of God in my life demonstrated by my deeds? (James 3:13, Titus 1:16) 5. Do people around me know of my faith? (Matthew 5:16, Romans 10:9) 6. Do I love my fellow believers and demonstrate that love? (John 13:35, 1 John 3:18) 7. Do I love the word of God and do I seek to keep it? (Psalm 119, 1 John 2:5) Well, let's see... I would have to throw in something about sound doctrine, too. But I've had a long day and I'm running out of steam! I would say, in general, that our faith must be manifest in three broad areas (Luke 10:27): (1) cognitive (what we believe), relational (where our heart is), and volitional (what we choose to do). But, as always, I maintain that we are saved by works... yes, works... but works done by God, not us. It is all His doing! Sorry for dumping these thoughts with so little organization. But maybe they will get the discussion going. :-) In Him, Doc |

3 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Ray | 141278
Hi Doc, John 13:35, "By this all men will KNOW that you are **My disciples, if you have love for one another." 1 John 2:5, "but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we KNOW that we are in **Him: 6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as (He) walked." John 15:12, "This is **My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are (My) friends, if you do what I command you." Hi, Brother Ray... I think that was my item number 6. You bolstered it with at least two other scriptures that I hadn't mentioned. Thank you! In Him, Doc
5 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Ray | 141361
Hi Doc, That was your number 6 and 7. They were the Scriptures which you used that I thought showed that we can KNOW that we are saved. Number 3, having the confidence of the Spirit [or spirit] that we are saved speaks to the fact of knowing also. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God). Acts 15:8, "And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, giving them the (h)Holy (s)Spirit, just as (He) did to us;" Acts 2:38, "And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the (h)Holy (s)Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself." How do you interpret these verses? Are we given the Spirit or the spirit in Romans 8:15? Are we given the Spirit or the spirit in 1 John 3:24? Is it the combination of the two, Spirit and spirit that gives us the confidence to KNOW that we are saved? Romans 8:16. From the heart, Ray |

6 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | C4truth | 141368
Why do you ask? I'm not trying to be a smarty pants. Are you asking because you are unsure? Or, you'd like to make a judgement about someone you like as a friend, or a wife? Well because you signed from the heart, I'll take it that way. In Romans 10:9 it tells you how to get saved; that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be SAVED! When a person does that, they may not feel any different. Even though scripture says you are a new creature in Christ. What happened was you asked the spirit of God to come live in you. Spirits live in the spirit realm. Your fleshly appearence didn't change but, your spirit did. We are made up of 3 different parts; spirit, body, soul. So, a born again Christian has a new spirit; the Spirit of God. You have probably heard; once you have Christ you have all you need. Well it is true-everything God has, God gave to Jesus and, everything Jesus has He gives to us. Jesus gives everything to us in our spirit. Now how we get the stuff from the spirit realm is manifesting it through faith. Faith is believing in the unseen as though it were. The unseen is the spirit realm. I hope I'm not complicating something that is so simple. I'm going to tell you how the first mannifistation of the spirit happened; Genesis 1:3 'Then God said let "there be light"; and there was light.' That was the simplest example of the mannifistation of the spirit realm. God is a God of example. He spoke it, believed it, and it became. For us to mannifest what was poured into our spirit: first we speak it, then believe it and wait. But the whole thing here is we live here in the earthly-physical realm. Quess who's dominion that is Satan's-the father of lies. Who is our enemy, he came to rob, steal, and destroy. This is the account of Satan: When in heaven his name was Lucifer. He was one of the top angels and was jealous of the praise God was getting. He decided to put his throne above God but, Jesus kicked him and his followers-one third the angels down to earth. Where he was classified as a serpent. Adam and Eve were told not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The serpent now Satan, conviced Eve and Adam with lies to eat of the forbidden tree. When they did they believed Satan's words over God's words. Belief is one of the highest forms of worship. Anyhow once they believed Satan they put themselves under Satan, now everything they had was under Satan, he which acquired. What they had was dominion over the earth. Dominion means authority. Jesus is called the 2nd Adam because He came to give dominion back to God's creation. But things are differnt because their is sin in the world so, Jesus had to do carrying of sin as well. That's the reason for the cross. God knew we wouldn't be perfect because our bodies are born in this world from the dust of this world. Our flesh is of sinful nature because of where it comes from. Some might say of a newborn baby; he is so innocent. Sure he has not sinned yet but his body was made from dust that came from where Satan has dominion. Scriptures say your flesh is always at odds with the spiritual things of God.So we have Satan as our enemy who is the father of ALL lies. That is his true power; if he can get us to believe his lies instead o God's truth we cannot believe for the inheiritance Jesus died to give us. Satan might even be trying to tell you that you are not a child of God. He might say: you have sinned to much, your not good enough to go heaven, your salvation didn't stick. Whatever, he says is a lie. Part of it might be some truth but, added up it makes a lie meant to miss lead you just so you are believing him and not God. If you are not sure if your saved commit or, re-commit your life to Jesus. Because it is God's will that none should perish. God is good He loves you and wants you to be blessed. He wants to give you everything He gave His son to you. Remember this; God loves all of His creation but, we are not His children untill we ask Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and savior. Because Jesus is the One who has addopted us as His brothers and sisters so His Father can be our Father. Therfore inheriting all our Savior has......believing His will. A person's will doesn't come into affect untill He dies. That is why He came from His throne, was born as a man so he could leave us a will so we could inherit the goodness of God. Since everything that is sin burns up in the presence God. Jesus out of the love for His Father was obedient to come to our world to bring us the truth and then die so He could take that sin from us to leave it in hell to be burned there. Now once we have the birth rite from Jesus we need to renew our mind so that we know what our inheritance is so we can claim it in faith. Ask God for faith to believe the fullnes of his word through revealation of the Holy Spirit |

7 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | BradK | 141386
Hi C4Truth, I'm afraid your response was rather lengthy, and you lost me about two-thirds of the way through:-) I'm not exactly sure what you meant by Genesis 1:3 being "the first mannifistation of the spirit". I've never heard it referred to in that sense. What Biblical passage teaches us that Jesus "came to give dominion back to God's creation?" I'm not clear on the basis for this assertion. 8 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | C4truth | 141426
BradK hi, you better print it and read it in 2 sessions I don't want to lose you again. In the time I have I'll explain the best I can. To use what I consider deductive reasoning; We know God is a spirit and when He creates He does it from the spirit realm. A mannisfestation of the spirit is simply; something being called from the spirit realm into the physical realm;our realm, the earth. As far as I can tell Gen 1:3 was the first thing that was shone to us,as how God creates. My point isn't that, that was the first time God created; it was that it was a model of how God does things. Like the Old Testiment . It testifies of God and what is to come, namely His son. God wants us to have all He put in His son's will. The New testiment. Have you ever had a relative die and have him will all the good stuff to you. My grandpa did that. This is how it worked; 1.My grandfather had to die 2. I had to prove I was his grandchild 3.I had to believe what my grandpa willed me was there,or else I wouldn't take the time to petition for the property. 4.I would make claim on it,and wait for the court to verify I met the criteria to receive. God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. His personality is that He wants us to be Christ like or, it has even been said godly. We are to take on the personalities of Christ. How do we do that? Believe in God, and take him at His word that he willed to us; His children in The New Will And Testimant. We cannot please God with unbelief. So when He sent Jesus Who said, all I have is from the Father. All I have I give to you. And I must go so, the helper can come-The Holy Spirit He will reveal all of what the Father has or, is. Jesus has dominion over all. He is The king Of Kings, Ruler Of The Universe and He wants to give this reign to His believers. Jesus was called The Second Adam - you'll have to do a word search. He has come to give us all He has; dominion or authority over all the things of this earth. That is what God did when He told Adam take dominion before the fall. The word picture of this is when the seed of the woman-Mary's seed - crushed the head of the serpant-satan by putting satan under the authority-dominion of Jesus. I am God's creation but through the adoption of Jesus and my accepting Him as my Lord. I now have family rights. I am recognized as God's child because of who I have placed over myself as the headship of my life.Otherwise all my righteousness would bew as filthy rags. Not because I'm always doing bad stuff. It is because I am not in the family. Ever try and inherit someone elses grandpa stuff. Jesus died to give those things of God to me. That is why we can do all things through Christ. On one hand the dos and don'ts you learn as a kid make you wise and a better person to get along with. Those laws reveal the nature of God, what brings life. But because we live in a body that is made from the dust of this earth in our natural or earhly self with the help of lies from satan. The way I have dominion over this world is by not believing the lies of Satan. Rather walk in the truth of God, through the power of His Son and the revealing of God's truth by His' Holy Spirit-full package of God. That is now the begining of the mannifistation of the spirit realm. AS a believer I believe I do not want to make a mockery of Jesus' death. So by the power vested in me I plan to believe for the wholesomeness of God. Which by the way is not talking about dairy products. Wholesomeness is like a full package of God. It is like a whole set. LIke a calander has 12 months or, a case Coke has 12 cans. I'd like to believe that is where the word holy came from. And then the world tried to take the meaning away by using whole to mean something is missing, like holes in your socks or the like. got to go ask the Holy Spirit For Help with me. Bless YOU. |
