1 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | kw5kw | 141772
Greetings Pastor Glenn Oh, I'm very aware of 2 Tim 3:16. It's one of the verses that I first point to when I'm teaching the Bible to younger people. Did you read the Rev. Spurgeon's sermon? He has a great sermon on faith, and although he has references to passages in the sermon, in the body of the sermon proper he has no actual references to specific scriptures. At the beginning of the sermon he does reference one and only one verse: John 4:48. The Rev. Spurgeon was one of the greatest preachers to ever live (IMHO), and he didn't think it was necessary to footnote every though that he spoke about. (OH, if you print that sermon, it's 25 pages long.) 2 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Hank | 141775
A student of Charles Haddon Spurgeon would never conclude anything about the Prince of Preachers if he did not conclude that Spurgeon had an exceedingly high view of Scripture. Sola Scriptura was Spurgeon to the core. No warm-fuzzies for him! --Hank
3 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | BradK | 141776
Hi Hank, We could also reference Spurgeons' Sermon on 1 Tim. 4:13, "How to Read the Bible" as well as many others! As the late A.C. Gaebelein said, "We should never hold a view of the scriptures lower than that of our Lord, Who said "the scriptures cannot be broken." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

4 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Hank | 141778
Amen, Brad. One must for good reason hold suspect anyone's theology which is based on anything else but Scripture. What Texan John Garner, who served as vice-president during FDR's first term, said of the vice-presidency, I would say of any "warm-fuzzy" theology: "It's as useless as a bucket of warmed-over spit." --Hank
5 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | kw5kw | 141786
I came here to give an honest answer to how I felt when the Holy Ghost entered my body. When the Holy Ghost entered MY body the Holy Ghost (1Cr 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? )gave me a warm feelinging from inside my body that felt like a warm hug from within. Being that we're all Christians here, I didn't think, that every word I typed here needed a Scripture to back up everything I said. Then I gave an example of someone whom I admire (Rev. Spurgeon) who gave a sermon and used only one quoted scripture in the entire sermon, and once again I'm lambasted. I might remind you all of this: Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. This was a lively discussion, but for me now I'm through with this thread. Your friend in Christ, Russ |

6 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Pastor Glenn | 141812
Hello again Russ, I have been misunderstood in the past, so I know it is a bad feeling. Are we misunderstanding you here? After reading your profile, I think that I now have a better understanding of your view of the scriptures. I think that what you have been trying to say is that since God has done so much for you, He is more to you than all that you have learned from scripture so far. I may be wrong, so correct me. Also, your gratitude to Him and your fellowship with Him is on-going; a continuing fellowship that is difficult to express by quoting scripture. The "warm fussy" feeling is from feeling unworthy of the great miracle as He brought you back to life. You indeed have a high regard for scripture, but since you know Him and communicate personally with Him through prayer and study ... Am I on the right track here about you? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

7 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | kw5kw | 141825
Thank you Pastor Glenn, I said I would be finshed with this thread. After your post I must respond favorably. Your are correct. I have a very 'Special' relationship with my Creator, My God! One that I cannot express in words, only in feelings. My feelings are ... just simply indescrible ... My examples are meant to show that I LOVE JESUS, my Lord, my Saviour! I have to express that feeling. In person I'd be able to express my feelings. In type, on the internet, it is very difficult to express feeling, only fact. Facts can be so cold sometimes, when my feelings are so warm. Your brother in Christ, Russ |
