1 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | DocTrinsograce | 141561
Pastor Glenn, Thomas Watson answered this question very well way back in 1692. I attempted to paste his words here, but they exceeded the 5,000 character limit. It is called "A Test of Assurance." I would encourage everyone to prayerfully consider his words. http://www.eternallifeministries.org/tw_assur.htm In Him, Doc |

2 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Mommapbs | 141596
Greetings Doc, Pastor Glenn, and Aixen7z4, - I'd like your input on Incarnational reality (Col 1:27) and practicing the presence of God in our daily lives - I suspect this might be a corollary to "loving His appearing" as mentioned earlier in this thread. I liked the article Doc linked to - How do I know I love God? We read in John 14 that loving Jesus is obeying Him - to me this has the potential for becoming legalistic or "religious". I suspect that obeying Him without the love that He demands (Love the Lord your God with all your heart - what does this look like?)is often lacking in our "works." I've been thinking about "Incarnational reality" for a while now . . . How does the presence of Christ IN us affect our thoughts and actions (or how should it?). . . Unlike David, we need not long for His presence for He is always with us - yet in the dark night of the soul, I admit I have felt pretty alone . . . If He is IN Me and I am in Him - what causes me to think that He is absent at those dark times? Is practicing the presence of God (ie Br. Lawrence)the answer? What scriptures support this? Comments? Blessings, mommapbs |

3 | How do we know that we are truly saved? | 1 John 3:24 | Aixen7z4 | 141639
I must say "Amen" to the response that Pastor Glenn gave. Those are the words of Scripture, and an expression of the heart of God. He loves us, and he wants us to love him. Love is the motivation for our obedience. As for feeling the presence of God, I agree as well. Whether or not we feel him, he is with us. Fact is, he is in us. Whither shall I go from his spirit? Or whither shall I flee from his presence? If I ascend up into heaven, he is there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, he is there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall his hand lead me, and his right hand shall hold me. It may be that we feel alone when we are closest to him and cannot see him from afar. It may be we should rejoice in those moments and say, “I am hid away with Christ in God”. |

A dear friend, now with the Lord, once observed: God holds us in His hand, but when it becomes "dark", we are reassured because at times like these His other hand has closed over us - we are held tightly in His love. Blessings, mommapbs |
