Hi Tim, it has been a while since we have been on the same thread together, it’s good to hear from you. I think the whole crux of the situation in Hebrews 6 is answered in verse 9. The use of the contrastive conjunction (DE) but beloved, puts the recipients in a different category. Hebrews 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. It is interesting that the writer uses the word (PAITHO) translated persuaded. It is saying in effect that they have convinced the writer that they were saved by what they did after they were saved. This is further expounded in James, i.e. the things that accompany salvation. James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Tim, the last part of your post is interesting to me in that it points out to me a group, of so call Christians, that do this very thing every Sunday in their service. You said, Or, to state the case more briefly, the verse can be translated: "It is impossible to renew them to repentance while they are crucifying to themselves the Son of God and while they are subjecting Him to public disgrace." Is this possible or am I reading something into this that isn’t what it seems, without mentioning any denominational names? If you would rather, send me an e-mail. I am trying to walk easy hear, I hope, CDBJ |

CDBJ, "Tim, the last part of your post is interesting to me in that it points out to me a group, of so call Christians, that do this very thing every Sunday in their service." I may be hypersensitive and may be reading you wrong. But if I am reading you right, I go there every Sunday and that is not what happens, nor do the people there believe that is what happens. However, some who do not go there have that misconception. Emmaus |

While certain things do come up on the forum which my allude to some denominations we are told to refrain from the using of the same in trying to understand some doctrines. That is why Tim was ask to contact me by e-mail if he wanted to talk further. Notice the paragraph from the latest head posting from the Lockman foundation. ( While we remain firm on requesting you limit, to the best of your ability, the known denominational biases that produce potential strife and undo conflict, we understand it has, and will continue, to happen from time to time.) I did not mention anyone’s name or any denomination in my posting. If you were offended by something rhetorical that was stated I apologize. Far be it of me to point the finger at someone I have enough problems. CDBJ |
