No. That is not proper. See the preceding chapter of the very book you quote. "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet." (1 Tim 2:12) |

4 | biblical or cultural? | 1 Tim 3:1 | Makarios | 11968
I believe that we must take such verses as 1 Tim 3:1 literally and as applicable for our present time, since the 'spirit' or idea of this passage is that one should be above reproach in regards to what is 'right' and 'wrong', and this should be reflected in his or her life, regardless of what time or culture that they live in. I believe that everything in the Bible is applicable for our present time.

Hello mdkane88! No, the church as a whole today does not adhere to the scripture concerning head coverings (1 Cor. 11:3-15). In my church, every single woman wears a head covering, and every single man has short hair. I attend a Conservative Mennonite/Anabaptist church, and it is stated in our church Covenant that a woman should have her head covered as expressly stated in 1 Cor. 11:3-15. I'm just about as close to the Amish Mennonite as one can get, and we believe in head coverings and foot washing. Our women do this to show reverence and humility to God (separation to God from the world), and the church as a whole today is not practicing the use of the head covering. The wearing of the head covering is applicable and should be applied in our modern context. Blessings, Nolan |
