1 | The Lord told me to tell you..." ? | 1 Thess 5:20 | Pastor Glenn | 140431
I just noticed that there are no notes on this verse: 1 Thessalonians 5 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. (NASB) 20 prophesyings despise not; (YLT) I have heard some say that it is bad to offer a "word of knowledge" or "prophetic word" to others concerning their life. As an example, someone may come to you and say "The Lord told me to tell you..." so and so. Is this wrong for them to do? If we refuse to listen, are we disobeying this scripture? Any Comments? 2 | The Lord told me to tell you..." ? | 1 Thess 5:20 | EdB | 140438
Pastor Glenn In the Old Testament God used the prophets to talk to His people. In the New Testament God has sent His Holy Spirit to dwell within us and be our Teacher and our Guide. I think God still uses people and prophecy to confirm something or to bring correction in cases where His child refuses to hear otherwise. But I don't think God sends His prophet to tell us a new revelation. Example Let us say I was seeking direction and God gave it to me but I was unsure it was really God I could see someone walking up to me and saying God says and repeat what God has already said. That would be confirmation. Or if I was committing fraud but ignored the prodding of the Holy Spirit to stop. Atgain I could see God sending someone to say if you continue on this path it will lead to your destruction. That would be correction. I also could see be down and hopeless and having someone come up and say God wants me to tell you he loves you and there is a better day comming. That would edification. What I don't see is God using someone to come to a person, that hasn't even thought of this yet, and saying God has told me to tell you your going to be a great evangelist, or missionary, or preacher and etc. Or saying you are going to have a great trial in your future, or your going to get seriously sick but God will heal you. That is presumation EdB |
