Hi Minerva Paul's point is that Jesus descended into the grave, the world of the dead, before rising from the dead having broken the power of Satan (Colossians 2.15)and breaking the power of death for all believers (Hebrews 2.14) by rising far above all (compare Ephesians 1.19-22). I would like to jump in,if I may and say that Jesus's decention was not just the descention of one man.John 12:32(amp)And I,if and when I am lifted up from the earth[on the cross],will draw and attract all men[Gentiles and Jews]to Myself. It was not the death of only one man on the cross. This is why Paul said in Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ;it is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me.

Hi PDAL, I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer; so if it isn’t too much trouble could you please explain that post a little differently? It’s about as clear “to me” as mud. Sometimes it takes me a while to learn things; when I was born my mother held me back a couple of years, CDBJ |

Hello CDBJ ;This may help. The fall of Adam into bondage and corruption was more than the decent of a single man from life and freedom. The very name "Adam"-"Man"-implies the embodiment of all mankind. The fall of Adam as our head and representative was the fall of us all.So.to the resurrection of Christ into life and glorious liberty was not just the raising of a single man. No,as Second"Adam,"He to embodied us all as our Head and Representative. The resurrection of Christ was our resurrection. He took us in Him to the Cross by taking our place and becoming what we were John 12:32 If I be lifted up on the cross,I shall draw all peoples unto Myself.2Cor.5:21-For our sake He made Christ[virtually]to be sin who knew no sin,so that in and through Him we might become[endued with, viewed as being in,and examples of]the righteousness of GOD[what we ought to be,approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him,by his goodness].I hope this helps some....PDAL

Hi PDAL, The water is clearing "a little". I understand what you are saying about Adam. 1 Cor. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. The way I see it the sin of Adam was imputed to us through procreation, we are of his seed; he made the bad choice and went contrary to God. Through our physical birth we are in Adam and there was no individual choice on our part; that’s a bummer. But the verse, 1 Cor. 15:22, goes on to say, in Christ all shall be made alive. I was in Adam due to my physical birth, no chance of a choice on my part. But now I have a personal choice, and that choice is if I want to personally be placed in Christ. There again a birth takes place and I am born again and God through his fantastic plan places me positionally in His Son. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. With this being the case I can see where Christ could be considered the Last Adam but not the second Adam, as “you suggest” with number three, four, and five and so on coming along at some point in time. I don’t believe God has more then one plan for us as lost individuals and being placed in His Son “isn’t” something that’s automatic; it’s a grace function that’s triggered by faith in God’s object, Jesus Christ. You make it sound as though everyone will automatically be placed in Christ and have eternal life? Isn’t there some kind of a universal name for that; I don’t believe the Bible teaches it though? Maybe you could clear up that muddy spot for me a little better, CDBJ |

Greetings CDBJ!....I would be happy to clear up some things.Alot gets lost in our meanings over our P.C.,To me last and second mean the same.Sorry!--It is better said last Adam.1Cor.15:47 GOD created only two corperate men in the earth. The first man was of the earth, made of dust;the second man is the Lord from heaven.NKJV.1Cor.15:45-54 is some very good reading.Once we ask Jesus into our heart by choice of course(not automatic)there is a change that takes place in our spirit. In Adam our condition was spiritual death.By asking Jesus into our heart that condition changes from death to eternal life(denotes quality as to duration). It's His life in us.1John5:11,12 And this is the testimony:that GOD has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.12 He who has the Son has life;he who does not have theSon of God does not have life.Because of this we have become NEW CREATIONS IN CHRIST!AMEN!I'm not a sinner saved by grace,I'm a NEW CREATION IN CHRIST!....I hope it's becoming clearer. As you seek HIM it will.....PDAL

Greetings PDAL, That’s starting to sound better to me now but where exactly is it in Scripture that I can find what you suggest? You made the statement. “Once we ask Jesus into our heart by choice of course(not automatic)there is a change that takes place in our spirit. In Adam our condition was spiritual death. By asking Jesus into our heart that condition changes from death to eternal life” Where does God promise to do anything for us if we invite or ask Jesus into our heart, or is that just an assumption? I sure would like to have that “chapter and verse” if you could please, I can’t seem to find it in any of the Bibles that I have access to. What translation are you using? Have a great day, CDBJ |

9 | what does ephesians 4:9 mean-"descended" | Eph 4:9 | jonp | 184090
Hi I expect that PDAL has in mind such Scriptures as 'If a man love Me he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him' (John 14.23). And 'behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and He with me' (Revelation 3.20). Or 'that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith' (Ephesians 3.16-17). The heart is of course indicative of the inner being. If we are to be truly saved each of us has to have Christ within us and living through our inner being (compare Galatians 2.20). Best wishes Jonp.

Hi Jonp, The verse you quoted, Rev. 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Keeping the verse in context, is it actually directed towards believers or unbelievers? Is that verse indicative of regeneration or restoration to fellowship? In other words is Christ inferring His initial indwelling or an arising, due to a restraint, when he uses the word, (eiserchomai) in the original language? I’m enjoying you posts as well as PDAL's. I hope you're enjoying the forum but I sure would like to see a little more about you in your "personal" profile! Have fun, CDBJ |
