How is this verse reconciled with salvation by grace? A believer is given God's righteousness in exchange for theirs so that their righteousness no longer depends on their ability to follow the law. (Romans 10:4, Titus 3:5, Phil 3:9) Does this verse mean that someone who claims to have faith and yet ever commits fornication, or idolatry, or adultery, any of these other things does not really have true faith? Or does this verse only speak of those who continue to do these things without conviction of conscience, or something like that? What about Romans 7? | ||||||

Hi, Take... I'd say that you are stating something that Scripture is very clear about. The regenerate do not habitually commit sin. This is stated throughout the Bible. It does not mean that believers are free of sin, for any believer is capable of committing any sin that those who are lost might commit. However, the mark of a believer is that he hates sin. We are told in such passages as Hebrews 12 that God will chasten one of His elect when they stray into sin. In Him, Doc |

I would have to agree with Doc. The only difference between a believer and non-believer is the saving grace through the blood of Jesus. Even a non-believer can take steps to better himself but without the saving grace of God it is of no use. God does in fact show us where we fall short (sometimes through chastening us) in the hopes that we will grow out of it. That choice of growth is ours | ||||||
