1 | Why do they prey for the deads salvation | 1 Cor 3:15 | Heyyoo79 | 143254
Catholisism teaches prayer for the deads salvation, as a Protestant and a Baptist, why do we not do the same, or how come they are not apart of our bylaws. I also realized that they have other books in there bible like 1 and 2 macovi. (sorry if I misspelled that).
2 | Why do they prey for the deads salvation | 1 Cor 3:15 | Emmaus | 143255
Heyyoo79, Catholics believe that at death you are either saved or not. You are are going to heaven or hell. Nothing that happens after death can change that, including prayers. Catholics do pray for the dead. They believe in a final purging of all attachement to sin. They call this purging or final cleaning Purgatory. based on 1 Cor 3:15, Rev 21:27. So we pray that those we love, whom we hope are saved by the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, will undergo their prurification sepeedily and enter into the fullness and joy of God's presence. http://www.catholic.com/library/Purgatory.asp http://www.catholic.com/library/Roots_of_Purgatory.asp Here is something on the books in the Old Testament canon. http://www.catholic.com/library/Old_Testament_Canon.asp Emmaus |

Emmaus,I will agree with you at death we are either saved or not saved. At death the issue has already been desided.Jesus is either Lord or not. By this time we have already made our choice, one way or the other. 2 Corinthians 5:10 Says that we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,The greek word here is bema-transelated judicial court, judges seat, this can refer to human or divine judgment. Point being, this will be a time of accountability.Read the whole verse. At this time you are already saved or not. What one has done as a believer will be brought to light.Only the things we did that glorified God will survive. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.There is no final purging at death, you are either in or your out. The only thing accomplished when praying for the dearly departed is to possibly bring some closure for the one offering the prayer. It accomplishes nothing for the one who has already passed away. In Christ, lionheart |
