Susan, Where does the Bible say "Speaking in tounges means that you allow the Holy Spirit which lives inside you to speak or pray". I am most curious by "you allow" If it is another verse please post it there. If it is here, I only see speaking, not praying. S |

Greetings Brother, Jesus told the disciples that when he went back to the father that he would send the Holy Spirit who would guide and teach them. (Acts 2:4)says they began to speak in tongues as the Spirit enabled them. This was the evidence to the people of what Jesus had promised all who would accept him as Lord and saviour. The key word here is enabled.God enabled them it doesnt say God spoke for them but enabled them to speak. In (1 Cor12) the word manifestation is used (phanerosis )- manifestation, disclosure, revelation, setting forth plainly.God enabled them to speak,it was up to them to speak. God never overides ones free will. He may bring some serious heat to get our atenttion, but it's up to individuals to respond to and act on Gods leading. (2 Peter 1:21) says that men spoke from God as they were moved or in some transelations it says carried along by the Holy Spirit. It wasnt God moving there mouth and lips,It wasnt God moving there hands to write his Word.It was the Holy Spirit moving and working in there hearts what to speak and write. God is the author but they had to write, they had to speak. When we were saved, born again of Gods Spirit we recievd the full measure of Gods Holy Spirit. We have no more or no less of the Spirit than what we needed. We got the full meal deal when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour. (2 Peter 1:3) tells us God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. We got the full measure when we were saved. No need for multiple fillings, once was enough. Sorry bro but I had to answer this one, this subject can get quite commplicated but it isn't if we just view things in the light of Gods Word. PS Susan I hope you read this and that it helps. PS Bro if Im not qiute there on any of the points in this post I pray you will set me straight. In Christ, lionheart |

Hey bro, Lets see if I can get this out without botching it up to bad.Hopefully I'll be able to make a little sense of this. Before I was a christian control was at the top of my list.I had to be in control all the time.It took me the better part of forty plus years to figure out that I was never in control, never had control. So if it wasnt me or anyone else that left me with only one other answer and that was God.I never understood that until I humbled out and let God work with my heart.God has always been the one in control not me.So I dont know that we give God permission to do anything,We submitt,we bend our will to his and repent. Then God accomplishes his will in our lives and thats good for everyone concerned.God is soverign no matter what we think.Secondly a lot of people go to (Romans 8:26,27 )when it comes to speaking in tongues. What I see here and correct me if I'm wrong is how Gods Spirit works within us and is working in us. Again at the risk of being off the key word in (Acts 2:4) is enabled or in some transelations it is stated gave them utterence. What they did came from and was done in the power of the Holy Spirit. Maybe you can help me understand better. There have been many times Gods Spirit has been guiding me and working in me and I've just flat out refused to do what God was wanting me to do. Am I on the right tac here or amI thinking of something entirely different. Teach me brother I'm open to what ever you are willing to show me. In Christ, lionheart |

On Romans 8 go to post 148370 ... also, He doesn't work through us in Romans 8, He is between us and God ... just a Christ is interceeds for us (Rom 8:34). Here in Acts 2:4, the Holy Spirit gave them utterance. I believe they were thinking in their own language, but another one came out ... they they didn't know, but others in the crowd did. You aren't the only one to refuse to do what God says ... Jonah is a Biblical example. Also, the latter half of Romans 7 is something I think we all go through. I hope I helped, Seracher |
