1 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 52823
I think the problem is weather or not we need to do what God said. The Grace of God is simply his word to us, if we did not have instructions (THE BIBLE) WE would have no hope in this life. Do you remember Naaman, the king of Syria, with leprosy, 2Kings 5:1-14 let's look at verse 10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of lsrael? may I not wash in them, and went away in a rage. 13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash and be clean? This came from the Lord God to the prophet, to tell Naaman what he must do to be clean. The same as what Jesus said to be save, it came from God. 14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. What I learn from this is whatever God tells us to do and for whatever reason, we should do it. 1Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in OBEYING THE VOICE OF THE LORD? Behold to OBEY IS BETTER than sacrifice, and to HEARKEN than the fat of rams. We learn here that faith only is not enough in God's sight. "The important baptism is the baptism of the holy spirit and being born of the Spirit. John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the *Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again' [or, from above]" Compare Titus 3:5" You miss verse 5 in John 3, you must be born of the water and the spirit to enter the kingdom of God! these are the words of Jesus, and they must be obeyed! When it come to the grace of God we fail to understand what grace is; John 1:16-17 Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 1:1 In the beginning was the Word,(Grace) and the Word (Grace) was with God, and the Word (Grace) was God. 14 And the Word (Grace) was made flesh, and dwelt among us ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. This is how I see it, the grace in Eph.2:8-9 is the word of the Lord God. Men interpret it as "unmerited favor". I think we should let the bible interpret it. |

2 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Hank | 52850
Grace and Truth: Logos (Word) in John 1 does not mean grace. Your "Word (Grace)" syllogism lacks both scriptural and semantic supports. --Hank
3 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 53108
It doesn't mean (Grace) it is Grace!
4 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Hank | 53111
Grace and Truth, regarding the passage in John 1, your line of reasoning that Logos (the Word) is grace makes no more sense than to say that bird is feather. --Hank
5 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 53112
Make no sense! Yet God sent the Logos to save man. (That's Grace) That's the sense I'm making. |

So then, are you willing to concede that, in the context of John 1, a better interpretation would be that God by His grace sent His Son to save men, that grace is an attribute of the triune God, but not itself God -- not God the Father, not God the Son (Logos, Word), and not God the Spirit?...... Now, in Titus 2:11 which you cited in response to Joe, Paul uses 'grace' in reference to none other than Jesus Christ Himself. Paul says, "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." Paul is referring to more here than merely the divine attribute of grace. He is referring to Jesus Christ, God's supremely gracious gift to fallen mankind. Jesus therefore is the suprememe and unique manifestation God's grace, of grace incarnate, the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Thus "the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men" (Titus 2:11).... and .... "as many as received Him. to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12)...."for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 ESV). --Hank
7 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 53118
I could agree with all that you are saying here, (grace is found in each, by the will of the Father), but my understanding includes what Jesus tells us to do to be saved, hearing, believing, repenting, confessing the name of Jesus Christ before men and being baptized for the remission of sins, and living a faithful life for Jesus.
8 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Hank | 53142
Grace and Truth: I was afraid for a moment that you might disappoint me by not finding SOME way to tie baptism and works into this discourse on grace and the Logos, but you came through true to form :-) --Hank
9 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 53143
Hank! Just one question, Did the Logos tell us through the apostle Peter, to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins? Yes/No |

10 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Hank | 53148
Grace and Truth: Was Paul writing under inspiration of the Holy Spirit when, in Ephesians 2:8,9 he said: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast."? Answer THAT with yes or no. [The answer, of course, is that the writings of both Peter and Paul that appear as part of Scripture are God-breathed and absolutely true.] But please, dear fellow forum user, let's not drag this thing on and on. You've obviously had your fair turn at the baptismal podium, have spoken "at sundry times and in divers manners" your piece about your views on baptism and works. Few of your fellow forum users agree with you; not a single one, to my knowledge, have you persuaded to adopt your views, so what in the name of common sense motivates you to play the same theme over and over? Do you think that endless repetition is going to have any positive effect? I don't. We listened to you the first time, we got your message, we didn't buy it then, we aren't buying it now, so what makes you think we are likely to buy it by having it incessantly repeated to us? Don't you people have any other theme or know any other song? A cappela, of course :-) --Hank
11 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 53152
Yes I agree with the apostle Paul, but I don't agree with your teaching. You talk about how many hold to your view of salvation and you do have a lot. Because it makes Matt 7:13,14 come to light, only few there be that find it.
12 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Hank | 53165
Grace and Truth, if you truly agreed with the apostle Paul, you would agree with "my teaching" because that's where it came from! And you say that this view of salvation by grace through faith makes Matt. 7:13,14 come to light! Nonsense! What really "comes to light" is a comparison of the self-righteousness of the Pharisees with any denominational group that advances the idea that they are exclusively the church and all others are in darkness. --Hank
