Subject: where did this teaching come from? |
Bible Note: So then, are you willing to concede that, in the context of John 1, a better interpretation would be that God by His grace sent His Son to save men, that grace is an attribute of the triune God, but not itself God -- not God the Father, not God the Son (Logos, Word), and not God the Spirit?...... Now, in Titus 2:11 which you cited in response to Joe, Paul uses 'grace' in reference to none other than Jesus Christ Himself. Paul says, "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." Paul is referring to more here than merely the divine attribute of grace. He is referring to Jesus Christ, God's supremely gracious gift to fallen mankind. Jesus therefore is the suprememe and unique manifestation God's grace, of grace incarnate, the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). Thus "the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men" (Titus 2:11).... and .... "as many as received Him. to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12)...."for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 ESV). --Hank |
