Subject: where did this teaching come from? |
Bible Note: Hi there, I don't think that anyone is going to jump in here and say that the suggested doctrine is from the "pit of hell" or the father of lies. Personally, I believe that when a subject has so many divisions in it then we should wonder about the entire subject. In other words, we have infant baptism or believer's baptism, sprinkling or immersion, is speaking in tongues necessary after the baptism, only to name a few conflicts. All of these discussions leave one wondering if he/she has done everything that is needed. It takes away the "knowing" that we should have about our salvation. John 20:31, "but these have been written that you may believe that *Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name." We have life by His authority not because we have been baptized in water in His name. We are justified by His grace. Titus 3:5, "that being justified by *His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Romans 5:5, my interpretation for what it is worth, "and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the *holy *spirit given to us." Ezekiel 36:25, "Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, *I will give you a new heart and a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."******Here we have a new spirit within us; new attitudes, new desires, new life. Ezekiel 36:27, "And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in (My) statutes,..." **** Here we are walking in God's path because of His Spirit dwelling in us. This verse and the one above speak of the Holy Spirit and the new spirit within you. The important baptism is the baptism of the holy spirit and being born of the Spirit. John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the *Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again' [or, from above]" Compare Titus 3:5 I would like us to press on to maturity, and leave these elementary teachings of instruction about washings. We have tasted of the heavenly gift and been partakers of the holy spirit and tasted the good word of God. Let's not fall away and after the washings go back in the mud to wallow in the mire. See Hebrews 6:1-12 and 2 Peter 2:22. |
