Hi there, I don't think that anyone is going to jump in here and say that the suggested doctrine is from the "pit of hell" or the father of lies. Personally, I believe that when a subject has so many divisions in it then we should wonder about the entire subject. In other words, we have infant baptism or believer's baptism, sprinkling or immersion, is speaking in tongues necessary after the baptism, only to name a few conflicts. All of these discussions leave one wondering if he/she has done everything that is needed. It takes away the "knowing" that we should have about our salvation. John 20:31, "but these have been written that you may believe that *Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name." We have life by His authority not because we have been baptized in water in His name. We are justified by His grace. Titus 3:5, "that being justified by *His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Romans 5:5, my interpretation for what it is worth, "and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the *holy *spirit given to us." Ezekiel 36:25, "Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, *I will give you a new heart and a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."******Here we have a new spirit within us; new attitudes, new desires, new life. Ezekiel 36:27, "And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in (My) statutes,..." **** Here we are walking in God's path because of His Spirit dwelling in us. This verse and the one above speak of the Holy Spirit and the new spirit within you. The important baptism is the baptism of the holy spirit and being born of the Spirit. John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the *Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again' [or, from above]" Compare Titus 3:5 I would like us to press on to maturity, and leave these elementary teachings of instruction about washings. We have tasted of the heavenly gift and been partakers of the holy spirit and tasted the good word of God. Let's not fall away and after the washings go back in the mud to wallow in the mire. See Hebrews 6:1-12 and 2 Peter 2:22. |

I think the problem is weather or not we need to do what God said. The Grace of God is simply his word to us, if we did not have instructions (THE BIBLE) WE would have no hope in this life. Do you remember Naaman, the king of Syria, with leprosy, 2Kings 5:1-14 let's look at verse 10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. 12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of lsrael? may I not wash in them, and went away in a rage. 13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash and be clean? This came from the Lord God to the prophet, to tell Naaman what he must do to be clean. The same as what Jesus said to be save, it came from God. 14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. What I learn from this is whatever God tells us to do and for whatever reason, we should do it. 1Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in OBEYING THE VOICE OF THE LORD? Behold to OBEY IS BETTER than sacrifice, and to HEARKEN than the fat of rams. We learn here that faith only is not enough in God's sight. "The important baptism is the baptism of the holy spirit and being born of the Spirit. John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the *Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again' [or, from above]" Compare Titus 3:5" You miss verse 5 in John 3, you must be born of the water and the spirit to enter the kingdom of God! these are the words of Jesus, and they must be obeyed! When it come to the grace of God we fail to understand what grace is; John 1:16-17 Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 1:1 In the beginning was the Word,(Grace) and the Word (Grace) was with God, and the Word (Grace) was God. 14 And the Word (Grace) was made flesh, and dwelt among us ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. This is how I see it, the grace in Eph.2:8-9 is the word of the Lord God. Men interpret it as "unmerited favor". I think we should let the bible interpret it. |

Greetings Grace and Truth! Which verse of the Bible defines 'grace' as being the "Word"? The best verse to use to define 'grace' is Rom. 11:6: "And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace." Here 'grace' is contrasted with 'work'. This same contrast is expressed in Rom. 4:4-5: "Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness." Thus, 'work' is what someone does to earn salvation, while 'grace' is an umerited gift received by faith. This is shown as well in 2 Cor. 6:1-2: "As God’s fellow workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2 For he says, ‘‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation." In short, 'grace' is always contrasted with 'works' or 'law' or 'effort'. It always refers to an umerited favor received by us from God. But, I have never seen a single verse where 'grace' is defined as being the "Word". Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
