1 | Where does it say "MUST be baptised" | John 3:5 | Rowdy | 111289
There are a multitude of scriptures on this subject posted on the Forum, easily brought up by plugging in the word baptism or its variations into the search engine. One must study diligently and pray over this subject quite a bit. As you've already sumised, there's a tremendous variety of opinions on the matter, spanning the full spectrum so I can only encourage you to be open minded to God's Word and use His Word in its whole. I would encourage you to stay on the Forum and keep studying but ultimately you must make up your own mind and face God with that decision. That's why I think it's best to go with the more safe option and be baptized for the right reason, rather than face Judgement Day without it. In answer to your specific question about "Must" I don't think you'll find that kind of specific command in God's Word. I believe that's God's way of maintaining his position of complete freedom of choice He gives us. I do infer we can take His Words on this matter and the examples of baptisms in the Bible as being imperative but it probably couldn't be proven in a court of law. I think that's the way God prefers it. So, God bless you and I would be interested in your response. |

2 | Rowdy's Right Reason? | John 3:5 | Hank | 111301
Rowdy, in Post # 111289 you make the following statement: "...I think it's best to go with the more safe option and be baptized for the right reason, rather than face Judgment Day without it." ..... I have two questions. What is the "more safe" option and how and why is it an option? And what does being "baptized for the right reason" mean? ...... By the way, you have not yet responded to my questions to you in Post #111225. I await your responses to this post and to that one. Cordially and with warm wishes, --Hank
3 | Rowdy's Right Reason? | John 3:5 | Rowdy | 111393
My basic motivation stems from my philosopical approach to Bible study in general. Hopfully, I made my position clear in my previous posts on the subject "Better safe than sorry." Reference Post 111225: I'll try to answer as best I can. 1) A dissertation on the terms of a last will and testament isn't covered completely in the Bible but it's referenced briefly in Hebrews 9:16-28. This also covers the subject of those who lived before Christ. Jesus was the one and only, perfect sacrifice for all time, past, present and future to the end of time. His sacrice and His Father's covers all the sins of all those who did have, now have and all those in future who will have faith in God and whatever plans He's got for us. We don't know many of the details on this subject but we see the best of the best in the OT. We see plainly that Abraham had unshackable faith when he completely gave up his son so totally. There are other examples but I think you already know them as well as I do. 2) Now about the thief of cross, please let me say here publicly, his case is NOT and should NOT be given as an example to follow. So speculation about his baptism or anything else, including the terms of his making it to Paradise should be of great concern to this Forum or its participants. I don't really think it would be wise for me to continue this item of interest any further. As I've mentioned on other recent posts, there's many scriptures on both sides of this issue about baptism so apparently they and I aren't going to change your mind. But do let me urge you to keep studying and praying on this subject and do take another serious moment to study God's subject of "Better safe than sorry." Even our Lord recognizes there are matters in His Father's Word that outweigh others, Matt 23:23-24. God bless you in your study of His word. |
