God's day to you, Val, David said, "But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me" (2Sa 12:23). That doesn't mean that David thought he would see him in heaven or Abraham's bosom (Luk 16:22). I believe David is saying that he would join him is death, as Samuel said to Saul (1Sa 11:23). I respectfully disagree. There were two places one could go in that time. One was to Abraham's bosom. The other was to Hades. As the poor man went to Abraham's bosom so also did David and Samuel. We are not told where Saul went.

God's day to you, Val, How do you answer ... 'Samuel said to Saul "tomorrow you and your sons will be WITH me"' (1Sa 28:19). It doesn't matter which side of the gulf ... I see the "with" and "I will go to him" (2Sa 12:23), as meaning death. Searcher |

I am not sure what you are looking for. A cross reference for 2 Samuel 13:23 is Gen 37:35 in which they call the place of the dead Sheol. When Samuel spoke to Saul in I Samuel 28:19 Samuel was telling Saul in essence that he would die in the battle tomorrow, him and his sons. We understand that they would go to Sheol. I don't think the idea of the two compartments was understood until it was revealed in the new testament talking about the rich man and Lazarus. There is a passage in Ephesians 4:8-10 hints that Christ took those in the compartment called Abraham's bosom to heaven with Him. There will be a bodily resurrection when Christ returns and brings the souls of those in heaven with him and their bodies will be joined together and they will be changed as is stated in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Notice verse 14 where He says He will bring with Him...

Val, David and Samuel were both talking about death. That is it. Searcher
