Thanks. You and June bring up good points. I've always been about 60 to 40 in favor of the possiblity of renouncing one's salvation (although I admit I have no idea why one would) but now I think I'm starting to lean the other way. I'll do some more reading into what you wrote and talking with others and maybe I'll swing even farther to the once saved always saved. On the otherhand though, I do believe that we have the choice whether or not to accept Gods gift of salvation. Not because of any pridefull thing or power trip, but because I believe that God would rather have us make the decision to worship Him rather than force us to. Consider for example if you had the power to make someone love you. Would you use it or would you rather have them choose to love you? |

I fully agree that we have a choice it the matter. I can't speak for others, but the overwhelming love that is communicated by God's Holy Spirit in me constrains me to love Him back. As I said, the falling away argument has been hypothetical in all of my over 20 years of knowing Christ. Sure we sin, and don't want to humble ourselves and come back for the cleansing that we know that we need, "those that have been bathed need only to wash their feet", but the rejection after a life-changing conversion, I haven't seen it. Now I have seen seekers change their habits and enjoy the benefits of turning from some sinful habits, and then go right back, but Jesus talks about that too. Did they get saved, we don't know, but John says that they who believe, endure. With the number of "one set of footprints in the sand" experiences that I have seen, it seems to me that if He saves you, He keeps you. There is no catch and release program for God, for I am convinced that nothing can separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Do more reading, God is interested in us searching, and I believe even wrestling with issues until we know that the argument has been put to sleep. In the end the truth will triumph, and so will we who are in Christ Jesus. Check out the following verses please: Jude 24-25 and II Peter 2:9 God is able and he knows how to keep us from falling. |

My Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus died for all my sin. Since at the time He went to the cross, all of my sin were in the future, I believe that all of my sin includes all of my future sin as well as my past and present sin. Paul and I share the agony, (Romans 7:24-25, 8:1)" O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. As much as the new man (Spiritual Man) in me hates the sin or old man within me, this condition will remain until I'm given a new incorruptible body. The good news is that as the Holy spirit continues to correct me and teach me and as I give up my own will little by little, Jesus gives me the spiritual victory only found in Him. My salvation is assured because I am His child and His perfect nature would not allow His promise to be broken. He said in I John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God bless.. |
