1 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | Searcher56 | 173190
Scripture ... 1 Sam 30:12, Jonah 1:17, Matt 12:40, Matt 21:1-28:20, Mark 11:1-16:20, Luke 19:28-24:53, John 12:1-20:31 ... I believe the passage is Mark is the plural for Sabbaths. There were two Sabbaths that week - the Passover and weekly. The following is a previos post. Ask a Jewish rabbi what that phrase "three days and three nights" means. If Jonah entered the fish on the second day of the week (Monday), when was he released (Jonah 1:17)? Does the Bible say "three days" or "three days and three nights". If anyone leaves out the "three nights" they are taking away from Scripture. Matt 12:40 says "three days and three nights". The "Friday" is an error of tradition. - Day 1 Thursday day (6am-6pm) - Nite1 Thursday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 2 Friday day (6am-6pm) - Nite2 Friday nite (6am-6pm) - Day 3 Saturday day (6am-6pm) - Nite3 Saturday nite (6am-6pm) Going backwards, we know that two disciples were going to Emmaus in Luke 24:21 It is Sunday (Nisan 17, Firstfruits). In verse 21, it says today is the third day since He died. That makes it Thursday. - Saturday would be the first day since today - Friday would be the second day since today - Thursday would be the third day since today Study the last week of His life (Matt 21:1-28:20, Mark 11:1-16:20, Luke 19:28-24:53, John 12:1-20:31) ... look at each event of each day. Nisan 8 - 17 Events .......... These are the events of His last week on earth. The Jewish day which starts at 6pm, so I indicated the day of the week as we see it. For example, (Th/Fr) is from Thursday 6pm to Friday 6pm for Nisan 8, the their day before the Sabbath (6th day of the week). - Nisan 8 (Th/Fr) - Jesus goes from Jericho to Bethany (John 12:1). "Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany." Passover is Nisan 14 (Exo 12:6-15) - Nisan 9 (Fr/Sa) - Sabbath - Five days before the Passover .... (John 12:9) ”On the next day … “ While it was a Sabbath, people still could travel. - Nisan 10 (Sa/Su) - Lamb Selection Day - Four days before the Passover ... (Matt. 21:1-17, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-46, John 12:12-18) "On the next day …” (John 12:12-13) This "next day" is now known as Palm Sunday. "He left them and went out of the city to Bethany where he spent the night" (Matt 21:17). - Nisan 11 (Su/Mo) - Fig Tree Cursed - Three days before the Passover ... (Matt 21:18-22, Mark 11:12-18, Luke 19:47). On "the next day. . . ." (Mark 11:12). - Nisan 12 (Mo/Tu) - Olivet Discourse - Two days before the Passover ... (Matt 21:23--25:46, Mark 11:19-13:37, Luke 20:1-21:38) The next day, "as they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up." (Mark 11:20) After a day at the Temple, Jesus gave His discourse on the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:1-2 is still the same day. Matthew 26:2-5 is a cross reference, verse 2 says "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be delivered up for crucifixion." - Nisan 13 (evening) (Tu) - At Simon's - One day before the Passover ... (Matt 26:1-16, Mark 14:3-11, Luke 22:1-6, John 12:1-7). That evening was the supper where Mary anointed Jesus for burial, and Judas went to the chief priests to betray Jesus. - Nisan 13 (daytime) (We) - Preparing for the Passover (Matt 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-16, Luke 22:7-13) The phrase "First Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread" can begin as early as Nisan 13 when leaven is removed from the homes. - Nisan 14 (evening) (We) - Last Supper, Arrest and More (Matt 26:20-27:10, Mark 14:17-72, Luke 22:14-71, John 13:1-18:27) "When evening came" (Mark 14:17) - Nisan 14 (daytime) (Th) - Preparation Day/ Killing of The Lamb (Matt 27:11-61, Mark 15:1-47, Luke 23:1-56, John 18:28-19:42) Mark 15:1 says "Very early in the morning." John 18:28 says the Jews had not eaten the Passover, which would be that evening, Nisan 15. He was buried before evening. Nisan 15 (Th/Fr) - Guard at the Tomb (High Sabbath) (Matt 27:62-66) ... one day since His death (Luke 24:1) Nisan 16 (Fr/Sa) - Weekly Sabbath ... two days since His death (Luke 24:1) Nisan 17 (Sa/Su) - First Day of the Week ... three days since His death (Luke 24:1) Searcher Also read post 134595 |

No where in Scripture does it say Christ was in the Grave 72 hours. Perhaps you need to learn the concept of synecdoche in which a part represents a whole. The Jewish people used this figure of speech all the time. B. Literally 3 days and 3 nights equals 72 Hours impossible! Those who insist that we must literally interpret 3 days and 3 nights equals 72 Hours "It is the sign of Jonah" they say, have not understood that it is impossible to harmonize LITERALLY all the data. If Jesus was resurrected If he rose AFTER the third day, after 72 hours, then all the above verses would read on the FOURTH day. "On the third day" vs. "after three days" are literally quite different: If Jesus raised literally "on the third day", then the third day was not yet over, it is literally less than 72 hours. If Jesus raised literally "after three days", then Jesus would have risen sometime literally after 72 hours. But this would be ON THE FOURTH DAY. Notice that the chief priests and Pharisees wanted the tomb guarded only until the third day, because that is when the resurrection was to occur, NOT on the fourth day! And remember, the watch at the tomb began at the end of the seventh day Sabbath, so that it could be guarded for all of the third day, which Sabbatarians say is Saturday. It was at the end of the duration of 3 days, using their own literalness, that guards STOPPED guarding the tomb. This proves that Jesus was going to raise before, not AFTER 72 hours had elapsed! Since we have irrefutable Bible evidence that 3 days and 3 nights may in fact be literally less than 72 hours or 3 days and 2 nights or 3 nights and 2 days (Cornelius: Acts 10:3,9, 23,24,30; Starving servant: 1 Sam. 30:12,13; Queen Esther 4:16; 5:1) we must call into question the literal length of time Jonah was in the sea monster!!! In light of the Bible passages, how can we be sure that Jonah was literally (Roman time thinking) 72 hours in the sea monster??? We come full circle to the well established point that the Jews would have viewed Friday 3 PM to Sunday 6 AM as being 3 days and 3 nights! http://www.bible.ca/d-3-days-and-3-nights.htm |

Again you do not understand the Jewish use of synedoche. Three days; three days and three nights; thrid day since they all mean the same thing He was in the grave on part of Friday (one day and night) all day Saturday (two days and a night) rose Sunday AM (third day since, three days, three days and three nights).
