1 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | Jagfire | 172873
The word paradise is used as a synonym for Heaven (2 Corinthians 12:4; Revelation 2:7). What we do know for sure is that there has always been a separation of believers and unbelievers (Luke 16:19-31). The righteous have always gone to paradise, the wicked have always gone to Hell (Hades).
2 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | koscheiman | 172890
Hell and Hades are not the same thing. Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise" Luke 23:43. Now we know that Paradise here is not a reference to heaven because He said to Mary, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father..." John 20:17.

Hello koscheiman, Might I ask what your support is for the assertion you made? You're a bit vague?! The late Greek scholar, A.T. Robertson offers this view of Luke 23:43: "Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise [Sçmeron meta emou esçi en tôi paradeisôi]). However crude may have been the robber’s Messianic ideas Jesus clears the path for him. He promises him immediate and conscious fellowship after death with Christ in Paradise which is a Persian word and is used here not for any supposed intermediate state; but the very bliss of heaven itself. This Persian word was used for an enclosed park or pleasure ground (so Xenophon). The word occurs in two other passages in the N.T. (II Cor. 12:4; Rev. 2:7), in both of which the reference is plainly to heaven." [Robertson, A.T. Word Pictures in the New Testament.] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

4 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | koscheiman | 172930
My point was quite clear according to Scripture Jesus went to Paradise also according to Scripture at the time of His resurection He had not ascended back to the Father. The conclusion Jesus went to Paradise but not to heaven where he Father was. Therefore Paradise in the Scripture in Luke is not referring to heaven. The KJV says Jesus went to Hell this is a mistranslation of the Greek the proper term is Hades.
5 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | BradK | 172934
Hello koscheimen, I realize that this matter may be quite clear in your mind. Yet, may I ask, "quite clear according to what scriptures"? I'm really not trying to be difficult, however, your statement is lacking any specific scripture references. Help me out as I do not want to misunderstand you:-) If you can more clearly communicate your position, then I can better understand you, my freind. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

6 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | koscheiman | 172959
And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise. (Luke 23:43) Jesus saith to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended unto the Father: but go unto my brethren, and say to them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and my God and your God. (John 20:17) These are the two Scriptures I mentioned in my post. As you can see in the Scripture in John Jesus had not as yet ascended to the Father yet He had already been to Paradise as of Luke's Scripture. Aparently here Paradise does not refer to heaven. |

Dear K, I'm at a loss to understand how 2 unrelated scriptures, strung together form your thesis!? I'm still VERY unclear, but I'll leave said at that:-) Speaking the Truth in Love. BradK |

8 | Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? | Luke 23:43 | koscheiman | 173004
What do you not understand? One Scripture said Jesus and the thief went to Paradise "today" i.e., the Friday of their deaths. The other Scripture which is on the day of Christ resurrection (Sunday) Jesus told Mary He had not gone to the Father as of yet. So if He went to Paradise on Friday Resurrected on Sunday but as yet had not been to the Father then the reference to Paradise in Luke is not where the Father is (heaven) You would do well to go to the following website and read http://www.mwchurchofchrist.com/pages/articles/aftdeath.htm |
