1 | WHERE are they taken? | Luke 17:36 | Jeff W | 140474
Hello Kalos, Amen brother. Our infinitely wise heavenly Father gave us a simple gospel messsage so that even a child could understand salvation, but He also gave us information that the wisest of philosophers are silent about. One verse that I have been baffled with is John 3:13 where Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus a truth that would cause him to wonder about for the rest of his life. I sure wonder about it. Jesus is there talking to Nicodemus and in heaven at the same time. This is way beyond my finite wisdom to grasp. God Bless you Jeff W |

2 | WHERE are they taken? | Luke 17:36 | kalos | 140501
No one has ascended into heaven except... Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" [10] Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? [11] Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. [12] If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? [13] No one has ascended into heaven except him who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. (John 3:9-13 (ESV)) 3:13 "No one has ascended into heaven." 'This verse contradicts other religious systems' claims to special revelation from God. Jesus insisted that no one has ascended to heaven in such a way as to return and talk about heavenly things (compare 2 Cor. 12:1-4). Only He had His permanent abode in heaven prior to His incarnation and, therefore, only He has the true knowledge regarding heavenly wisdom.' (MacArthur Study Bible) Jeff W: Read verse 13 in context. Then read the study note. In this verse Jesus is not on earth and in heaven at the same time. Grace to you, Kalos |

Hello, I did not intend to get into a discussion about this verse. I just wanted to show how, to me the Word of God could be so for reaching that our puny little brains couldn't even scrach the surface of it. :) These comments, study notes, are, well, what can I say. . . The way I read John 3 10-13 is as Jesus is talking to Nicodemus, Nicodemus trys to play stupid, but Jesus cuts to the chase and Nicodemus' small talk is laid bare by the wisdom of Jesus. Jesus tells him "If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you heavenly things." Then Jesus tells Him a heavenly thing that, to me is so over nicodemus' head that I could just picture the look on his face when Jesus told him "no man ascended up to heaven. . ." God Bless you Jeff W |
