Jeff W: I have often felt that there are so many books to attempt to tell us what the Bible says, that the low man (book) on the bottom is barried out of sight! I too, see that some Christians have become experts on the Bible based on reading the commentaries, rather that reading the Bible for themselves. So we have some agreement in what you said. However, in your orignal note, that I made reference to, you were mistaken in what the pre-trib belief is. That is where we do need information so we can dialogue intellegently about what others really believe, rather than make ignorant statements that cause us to appear stupid. I do have several sets of commentaries, and they were very useful while I was a pastor, and now I find they enrich my personal study of God's Word. I Like the historical background and the understanding of the culture when the book was written. For me these are important to know. Any thoughts, or questions. Blessings. justme |

Hello, I use to believe in the pre trib rapture, but after years of reading the Word of God, and listening to the bible on cassette all night, driving in my car, pretty much wherever I went, for many years, the Lord convicted me about His word being plain as day. The commentaries are beneficial for getting the setting for the book, and there are many other benefits, but I hear too much commentary when I quote verses and get presumption, and suppposition in return. There are many who are led to believe that when the church is "raptured" then they can get ready for Jesus to come again. This is the second chance I am referring. This is not an ignorant statement because The Lord has given me the priviledge to study with many evey night for years, and this is what I was hearing, even I used to believe that. Hi, Brother Jeff! I'm certainly no expert on eschatology. In fact, if anything, I've rather tended to ignore the question. I suppose I've done that out of a discomfort that I feel for something that attracts so much attention without any obvious change in lives. However, once I spent a week or so looking at every scripture reference to the following Greek words: epiphaneia (Strongs 2015) (appearing) parousia (Strongs 3952) (advent) hupostrepho (Strongs 5290) (return) erchomai (Strongs 2064) (coming) I tried to compile everything I could find out about each, and integrate them into a whole. (I was a little naive at the time, thinking that perhaps I could settle the pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib issues altogether. (By the way, I tend to be pre-millennial, but I have to confess that I don't have terribly solid ground on which to base that belief.)) Well, I wish I could say my conclusions put the whole issue to bed. :-) However, when I finished the research, the post-tribulation rapture looked to have a bit stronger Biblical support. By the way, Corrie ten Boom used to quite angrily denounce pre-tribulation rapture teaching. (It isn't as common outside of the United States.) She felt that it placed people into the kind of complacency that you mentioned. Anyway... just thought you might be interested. In Him, Doc |

Hello Doc, Amen brother, I believe the post trib has much more scriptural support that any other, because in my humble opinion the Word of God is one way or the other, I don't believe God would, very graciously give us His word, and leave us guessing about it. The scriptures are very cut and dry. And although there may seem to be many gray areas, in time the Holy Spirit will reveal them if we truly seek Him with our whole heart. God Bless you Jeff W |
