1 | Did Jesus teach hate? | Luke 14:26 | Morant61 | 101264
Greetings Seeking4truth! As I am sure you are aware, language is a very fluid thing. Words and phrases can have very different meanings in different cultures at different times. However, it is quite clear from the context of this passage that 'hate' here is used in a relative sense. The question is not one of 'love' verses 'hate, but one of 'what' or 'whom' will have first place in our lives. How do we know this? The context of the passage makes it clear. Discipleship requires a great committment. One must put Christ first, over family and even one's own life. One must count the cost. The emphasis is upon the priority we must give Christ. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | Did Jesus teach hate? | Luke 14:26 | Aixen7z4 | 101272
Brother Tim: Do you think that this Seeker is an unsaved person whom the Lord has led here so we can lead him to Christ? I am not sure. Statements such as "as Christians profess", above, suggest to me that this person is not saved. I assume he is here because he has some interest in becoming a Christian. However, I am not sure. I notice that he ignored the post where I broached the subject. Now, if he is not saved, and he is not interested in getting saved, what is the point of debating with him? I do believe that he needs to trust Christ. When he has learned to trust Christ for his salvation I believe it will be relatively easy for him to find answers to these other questions. I could be wrong. It could be that he needs these answers in order to realize that he can trust the Lord. I am praying that the Lord will guide this conversation. If this man is sincerely seeking the Lord I know he will find him, if not here then elsewhere. If I am not able to take further part in this debate, or if I tarry long, you know how you ought to behave yourself in this part of the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world. This seeker of truth can find the truth, maybe here. Would it not be fine if we can welcome him soon as a brother? God says, “You shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart”. |

3 | Purpose of this forum? | Luke 14:26 | seeking4truth | 101291
Aixen, I understand your obvious concern for my soul. But can I share something openly and honestly? As to my relationship with God, if/when I am "saved" is between him and myself. This forum is, as I understand it, a Bible study forum, a place to hopefully find some answers to scriptural questions, is it not? Is it a "get saved" forum? I think not. I have read quite a few of the posts here. I don't have all of the answers, obviously. Otherwise, I wouldn't ask questions. I am not trolling to cause trouble either. I am no genius, but if this were a "come and get saved" forum, this would be one of the most confusing places to do so. Why? Because one person would insist that I need to be baptized in water to be saved, another would insist that I need to be Reformed, another would insist that I be an Arminian, another would insist that I join their denomination, another would insist that I speak in tongues, another would insist that I use only the KJV. Some would insist that I am saved for all eternity and some would insist that I can lose my salvation. So what is salvation? What is truth? I made a profession of faith in Christ when I was 12 years old. I ask gently, does that ease your mind? It does not mine. From my exposure to the church, evangelicals are concerned about other's salvation for 2 primary reasons: 1) so that they can have another notch on their gun for bringing another Christian to Christ (more rewards, as I understand it) and 2) so that they are reprieved of the responsibility of having the weight of someone else's salvation from resting upon their shoulders. Either way, their primary concern is themselves. Granted, I have met a few Christians who seem generally concerned for others for more than the sake of achieving a "sinner's prayer." It is these Christians, who actually care about developing a lasting friendship, who have most influenced me to consider Christianity. But the majority have turned me off to God. I will not go into all of the reasons here as it detracts from this topic. So I ask you, gently, to please leave the issue of my personal salvation between me and God. He alone knows my heart. If I am saved, it is to God's credit and glory. And if I burn in hell, it is my sole responsibility. I do not ask nor require anyone to be responsible for my spiritual state. Again, I am getting of the subject. But, in brief, I professed a faith in Christ as a youth. But it was a blind faith exercised out of the fear of burning in hell. It was coerced. Now, as an adult, I am trying my best to investigate the faith that I once professed in order to see if it is worthy of serious consideration. Does that make me unsaved or a ridiculer? Judge me if you like, but God (if he is truly there) is my final judge. And if he is anything like I hope that he is, he is not afraid of a serious question and of my efforts to be a Berean to see if what I have been taught all these years is the truth and stands up to the scriptures. If my approach offends the moderator(s), then please ban me from this board and I will take my questions somewhere else. But I thought, maybe falsely, that a Bible study forum would be the best place to get my Bible-centered questions answered. Was I wrong? Sincerely, seeking4truth |

Matt 219 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Some do it simply beacuse they were ordered to do it! |

Shalor, ***Some do it (make disciples) simply beacuse they were ordered to do it! Maybe. But, from my studies, I doubt that getting a person to say the "sinner's prayer" and then moving on to the next fish in the sea is a valid interpretation of "discipling." No offense to you, but maybe if I had been discipled when I was younger, I would not have the crisis of faith that I am now experiencing. Unfortunately, those who led me to a profession of faith felt that they were finished after I got "saved." Their goal was achieved. Here I am 30 years later with serious doubts and one of the answers put to me is that if I would only get "saved" again, everything will be alright. I think not. No offense, just my human opinion. seeking4truth |

6 | Do you want assistance | Luke 14:26 | shalor | 101309
While the Dunk em and Chunk em mentality is wide practised it is not what Scripture teaches. A Christian is a disciple of Christ( acts 11:26) and a disciple is a learner, scholar and a follower (any standard dictionary). If there is any thing I can do to assist you, just let me know |
