AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God]--he cannot be My disciple. |
Bible Question:
Okay, Ken, I am interesting in discussing this "perfecting" if you are willing. But... First, can you explain to me (without theological gymnastics and conjugating 50 verbs) what, in your opinion, being "born again" means? I have heard many explanations over the years but I would like to hear yours. seeking4truth |
Bible Answer: Word study ... Anagennao - Anothen gennao ... seeking4truth, let me interupt ... I hope at least one of the explanations looked at the Greek. In 1 Peter 1:3, 23 the word for born again is Anagennao (Strong's 313) meaning to "produce again, be born again, born anew" ... and as a metaphor "to have one's mind changed so that he lives a new life and one conformed to the will of God" It is from Ana (303) "into the midst, in the midst, amidst, among, between" and Gennao (1080) "of men who fathered children" ... and as a metaphor - to engender, cause to arise, excite - in a Jewish sense, of one who brings others over to his way of life, to convert someone - of God making Christ his son - of God making men his sons through faith in Christ's work In John 3:3,7 ... Anothen (Strong's 509) is used instead of ana. It means - from above, from a higher place of things which come from heaven or God - from the first, from the beginning, from the very first - anew, over again The aorist tense suggests that the new birth is an event rather than a process. Just as our phyiscal birth, it happens at a point in time. Searcher |
