1 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210790 | ||
Dear WOS, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees why was it that his disciples did not wash their hands before eating their bread. The answer Jesus gives is confusing. I can't imagine there is anyone who believes that washing one's hands before eating is wrong, therefore my question is why did Jesus call them hypocrites? Dave |

Dave, The Pharisees were supposed to be leaders and teachers to the common man of God's instructions. There is no instruction about the washing of hands whatsoever, it was only a part of the oral tradition, which very often put many strenuous burdens on the people. Mat. 5:17-19, Messiah did not come to change, abolish, or destroy the law, nor did He come to incorporate a new religion. He was Torah observant, not so much an observer of the oral tradition. (I think the only "men's" tradition that Messiah kept was the celebration of Chanukkah.) As far as calling them hypocrites, see Mat. 15:4-6, many such oral traditions were like that. Cheri |
