1 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210794
Dear Val, If Jesus was trying to reveal the faults of the proud and self serving Pharisees, as you say their hearts were wrong, what was wrong with them continuing the God given tradition of washings hands before eating bread? And what was wrong with the Pharisees changing God's outdated death command to a rebellious child? Dave |

2 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210796
Dear Val, May I ask, do you personally believe washing hands before eating is wrong? Do you personally believe the Pharisees transgressed the command of God by changing the penalty of death? It seems to me that as much as their hearts were wrong, how can you fault them for their decisions on hand washing and the death sentence? I am just trying to make sense of Jesus' teachings. If I can't reconcile the rationale how am I to understand what he wants me to do? Should I abandon hand washing and fight for reinstatement of the death penalty to rebellious children? If I don't them like many people today, I am rejecting his teachings. Dave Dave |

3 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | navynerd | 210799
Dave, nothing wrong with washing hands and nothing wrong with not washing hands. The lesson of this story is not what goes into a man's belly that defiles him but what comes out of the mouth. If a man has evil thoughts and speaks evil that is what defiles him, not what he eats. Jesus knew the hearts of the leaders and wanted to make that point. You can eat with unwashed hands and it will not harm you. Glory be to God. navynerd |

Hi there navynerd, Thank you for your response. Although you give a more complete answer than anyone else, you fail to answer my questions, were the Pharisees wrong to continue a tradition of washing hands? As you probably know, God commanded Aaron and the priesthood as a tradition forever to wash before going into the temple and eating. If this was an instruction from God to be endured forever to all generations, how is it that the Pharisees were wrong about it? I agree with you that eating with unwashed hands may never harm you, but as a directive from God, doesn't it make sense to you that it is an excellent practice in light of all the microorganisms such as viruses, germs and bacteria that have been discovered and exist abundantly in our world? God knew from ancient times that hand washing was a beneficial practice. Were the Pharisees wrong to continue the tradition of washing hands? According to Jesus, they were. That and the death penalty questions are what I am trying to have answered. Thanks, Dave |
