1 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210766
In Matt 15 1-22, Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites, the blind leading the blind, because they continued God's command of wahsing hands before eating, but changed God's command of death to a rebellious child. How could the Pharisees be wrong about washing hands? And how could they be wrong about changing that hedious penalty of death to a rebellious child? How could Jesus be critical of the tradition of washing hands before eating and then insinuate that the command of death should still be valid?
2 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | Val | 210771
Because Jesus was no ordinary man. He was and is God. He could see people's minds and hearts and know what their true motive and spirit was. He saw the corruptness of the individual Pharisees He encountered therefore He spoke from this knowledge. The Pharisees and Sadducees were wrong about just about everything. They were of their father, the devil. This is a warning to us in that we are not to put man on a pedestal and deify him. We are to serve God and God alone.
3 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210786
Dear Val, You say the Pharisees were wrong about just about everything. If they were wrong about washing hands and they were wrong about changing God's command of death to a rebellious child, them are we just as wrong, hypocritical and blind as the Pharisees? Everybody knows we as modern Christians believe in washing of hands and the abandonment of the death penalty. If Jesus is teaching us a lesson here, what is he trying to say? In reality, we are doing exactly as the Pharisees did. Dave Dave |

Dear Dave, Can I ask you to follow up on your statements? What is it you believe about the washing of hands? Secondly, can you elaborate on your statement that the death penalty has been abandoned? I do not want to debate either one, just trying to understand your point of view regarding Scripture and these statements. Stand in His grace, WOS |

5 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | daverobertsjr | 210790
Dear WOS, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees why was it that his disciples did not wash their hands before eating their bread. The answer Jesus gives is confusing. I can't imagine there is anyone who believes that washing one's hands before eating is wrong, therefore my question is why did Jesus call them hypocrites? Dave |

6 | The Blind leading the blind | Mark 8:18 | Wild Olive Shoot | 210802
Dear Dave, It was how it was intended, not wrong in and of itself. There is nothing wrong with washing your hands before you eat. We all know the benefits of doing so, from nothing else, a health standpoint. But Jesus here focused on why the Pharisee’s pointed this out to begin with and contemptuously at that. You understand that hand washing was not a Law of God, but of the elders? The Pharisee were transgressing the Law of God by their tradition by not honoring their parents but making no mention of it yet had the gull to accuse the disciples of breaking a law, of man, because of their unwashed hands and eating common bread. Do you not see the hypocrisy in that? “Those who charge guilt upon others for transgressing the commandments of men, many times bring greater guilt upon themselves, by transgressing the law of God against rash judging.” – Matthew Henry Stand in His grace, WOS |
