Sister-in-law. He was in an adulterous (thus unlawful0 relationship and John called them on it. Herodias was so convicted that she wanted to silence the voice she thought was bringing the conviction. God bless |

3 | Why couldn't Herod have Herodias? | Mark 6:18 | disciplerami | 77530
Hi, Thanks for the response. I believe this is the correct answer, but some people say it was incest (wasn't she a half-neice?) so they don't have John telling a married couple they are committing adultery. Disciplerami |

4 | Why couldn't Herod have Herodias? | Mark 6:18 | Searcher56 | 77541
Scripture ... Gen 38:8; Lev 18:16, 20:21; Deu 25:5-10 ... Disciplerami, Even before the law of what to do if a widow had no son (Deu 25:5-10), there was the principle (Gen 38:8). While Herod was a half-Jew (half-Edomite), John felt it was his duty to remind him of what God said (Lev 18:16, 20:21). Based on Scripture, I presume that Herod's brother was alive. Herod didn't say the Law didn't apply to him. Searcher |
