This has been discussed many times on this forum but for sake of conversation, since you are new, I will present my comments and belief. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. The “baptized” in this verse is an automatic function of the work of the Holy Spirit upon the one who has believed in the work of Jesus Christ. Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Notice in the following verse, John is speaking to believers as well as unbelievers and he tells the crowed that Christ is going to baptize them all, by one means or another. If the receive the one you won’t receive the other. Both of these baptisms are dry, no water involved like John’s, and they are both real and not a ritual. John was actually showing the difference between the ritual and the reality. All believers receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the point of trusting in the finish work of Jesus Christ. All “unbelievers” will receive a baptism of fire. Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Rev. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Notice no mention of water baptism here because the action is all carried out by function of God at the point of believing in Jesus. Anything that we try to do to improve on God’s perfect plan of salvation for mankind only muddies up the water. God is perfect and His plan is perfect and that plan resides in the person of God's Son! Jesus is enough anything outside of of faith in Christ is works and not total faith in Christ, what ever the human function might be! Have a great day, CDBJ |

It is baptism of water. Just as it is water in Acts 8, and Jesus came up out of the water. It's water. Baptidzo (greek) to immerse. Water. | ||||||

I hate to burst your bubble with your expertise on the Greek language with regards to the word BAPTIZO referring to water. The very first time the word BAPTIZO was used was during the period of 1200 – 800 BC in the classical epic Homeric poems. Homer coined the word when a sword was plunged into blood to show association. The first use of the word had nothing to do with water but blood. You can find it in the works of Homer in the Odyssey if you want the exact etymology. The word, BAPTIZO with the cognate BAPTO was carried over into the Koine Greek by originator of the Common or Koine Greek, Alexander the Grate. Have a nice day, CDBJ |
