Bible Note: Scripture ... Jhn 3:18, 6:47; Mat 28: 18-20; Mar 16:15-16; Act 8:9-24; 1Co 1:14-17... Bible scholars think Mark 16:9-20 is not even supposed to be in the Bible ... but, let us look at it anyway. Mark 16:15-16 is similar to the Great Commission - GO make disciples, baptizing, teaching (Mat 28:18-20) The last part of Mark 16:16 does NOT say - "but he who has believed and has been not baptized shall be condemned." ... or ... - "but he who has not believed and has been not baptized shall be condemned." ... or ... - "but he who has not believed and has been baptized shall be condemned." There are those who cannot be baptized - they may die seconds after believing, they live where there is no water, they are physically/medically unable. A person may be baptized in water; they can still be damned for not truly believing. A sorcerer named Simon believed and so was baptized. Yet later, Peter told him his heart was not right with God and that he should perish when he tried to buy the magical power he believed the apostles possessed (Act 8:9-24). Cross reference John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." Also read John 6:47. Nowhere in Scripture does it say, "He that is not baptized is condemned!" Paul said that he came to preach the gospel, not to baptize (1Co 1:14-17). Mark 16:16 shows that disbelief is that which causes condemnation, NOT lack of baptism. |
