1 | Bill Mc, Are you twisting Scripture? | Matt 6:14 | Bill Mc | 16291
Dear Steve, no, I am not twisting scripture. I am trying to show you that there is a difference in forgiveness before the cross and forgiveness after the cross. All your sins were forgiven at the cross. I have posted scripture references to support this. If I said that we must believe that Christ has provided full forgiveness for sins but that we must also bring animal sacrifices back in to cover sins after conversion, I would be labeled (and rightly so) a heretic. Why? Because I would be mixing two different covenants. The Old was replaced by the New. Forgiveness before the cross of Christ was secured differently than after the cross. Sins before the cross were only 'atoned for', covered as a pointer to the once-for-all sacrifice that Messiah would make. Did you notice all the verses that I posted saying, 'FORGIVE BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN.' It is a completed, eternal act of God, Steve. If you add ANYTHING to it, then you take away from it. 2 | Bill Mc, Are you twisting Scripture? | Matt 6:14 | Searcher56 | 16297
Bill Mc, but if you cut out this verse, you are taking away from the Bible. Are you saying this was said before the cross, so is not in affect? -If so, do you the the same with the rest of the Bible? -If not, why cannot you forgive? Steve |

3 | Bill Mc, Are you twisting Scripture? | Matt 6:14 | Bill Mc | 16301
Steve, yes, this verse is not in effect after the cross. In the same way that OT animal sacrifices are not in effect after the cross. I am not cutting any verse out. Because I believe in Christ's once-for-all sacrifice does not mean that I cut out the Old Testament. But there is a reason that God gave us the New Testament. I don't believe that the Spirit of God will ever leave me. Does that mean that I cut out where David said, "Don't take Your Spirit from me." No. I don't cut it out. But I do recognize that there is a distinction in the covenants and that I, as a New Testament believer would not pray that prayer. In Him, Bill Mc |

4 | Bill Mc, Are you twisting Scripture? | Matt 6:14 | Searcher56 | 16313
Bill Mc, I think you are in great danger by saying "this verse is not in effect after the cross". This thought just in, did He promised the Holy Spirit before the cross? Was that in effect after the cross? If so, can you choose what is not in effect now? Steve |
