Bible Note: Hi everyone, Don't forget the verses in between also. Compare Matthew 6:14,14 with 1 John 2:9,10 "The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him." I would say however that the verses talk about "his brother". How you look at them for application in view of present events is up to you individually. For me, I go to verse 6, "...the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked." I go to Matthew 5:44, "But I say to you, love (forgive???) your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." As far as "brothers" is concerned, Matthew goes on and says, "If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." You know the Father, that He is righteous. |
